  1. I’m in New Zealand currently and so far the Nz authorities have asked for forms to be filled out. You are getting served at the buffet but not everything it’s like norovirus rules but at 50%. You still have salt etc on the tables and can help yourself to the cold stuff

i guess this may change as we go on. And I expect temperatures to be taken back in sydney.  So far no port cancelations.

  2. Yea I have to say they have handles this as well as they can. It’s unprecedented in modern times and everyone is flying by the seat of their pants. But I feel for the crew the uncertainty of what’s going to happen to them. Many this job supports a whole family back at their home. So I hope they get taken care of as well we we have.

im going to make a point of tipping my steward and others extra this time on top of what I normally do

Mr. Panda -- there is an announcement on the Princess web site, which has a link to a pdf with more detail.

In the detail, it says that Ruby will be completing it's current cruise, and ending in Sydney, as planned.

All subject to change, of course, particularly if Ruby is denied entry to a port in NZ along the way.

http://Voluntary 60-day Pause of Global Ship Operations – Details & FAQ (PDF)

So, I would think this is good for the passengers, as they should be able to use their original travel plans home.

Princess has 18 ships with about 1000 crew on each.

I think this means that someone will have to arrange for 18,000 crew members to go home at more-or-less

    the same time.

Thank you very much. The people onboard have no idea. But that’s a relief

  4. Well crap. We got the announcement that princess has suspended stuff for 60 days. We are at akaroa

we don’t know how it will affect current cruise. But we got these today. The form has to be done today. It’s all half arsed the dates are wrong. Question 7 there is not a no option

  5. Well they letting people check in then leave the terminal to come back 5pm which is in two hours time. So far no reason given. But if you left the terminal and got lunch they would reimburse you up to 30 bucks which won’t get far in the rocks area 🙂. So far so good. Will be interesting to see when we leave.

Thanks. I haven’t read the roll call. I’m just thinking back to how the decision was made at the drop of a hat to stop all cruises to Cuba. I’m just worried our government has quietly made some type of decision like that. I’m on the Crown Princess T/A to Rome embarking this March 26, and all of this has me so worried.

ha I’m due to go on the ruby in a few hours and embarkation has been delayed five hours. I’m super worried

  7. Does anyone know what it’s like on the other ships. As in what precautions are they taking. Is it like the rules for a norovirus outbreak where you get served at buffet? Etc.

also the ruby princess in sydney embarkation has been delayed by about 5 hours. So far no explanation

  8. We are in cabin 604 on a cruise a year away. Do you think that cabin is affected? Did they mention when they would have to change out the a/c? certainly is unfair to anyone in the cabins that are affected.

They said it will definitely get fixed during the dry dock that's been moved to march. They have the parts onboard as they knew about the issue for a while. It's just a big job to do. I guess they hoped noone would complain.

We have decided to take it up with the onshore offices as we got tired of the onboard people ignoring calls and only telling us anything when we went and camped out at pursers desk. We got the letter with reference numbers etc. I stood there until they put it in my hand

  9. Hi Reclining Panda,

We recently returned from a 33 day cruise to Hawaii & South Pacific and experienced the same poor air conditioning on the Golden Princess as you did. A tech came to check it and said it was OK. However there was no improvement after his checking. During the day there was coolness, but I swear it that at night, when you need it most to sleep, the comfort level was limited. Crazy too that a heavy doona is standard on the bed. We requested a replacement brown blanket and even that was too warm. Most night we only needed a sheet.

All the public areas on deck 7 were super chilly in comparison. There was talk that one of the ship's generators was turned off at night to save fuel. I wish you luck with any compensation claim and sorry you experienced this.

Omg yes this so true vista lounge and parts of horizon court cold as hell. I'm in Baja 640. Times some air comes through but its about as weak as a baby fart and about as cold, most it's hot as hell. It was first reported 4th day and it's now day 13 and still not fixed. We only have two more days to go. No communication unless we go down to desk to ask. Today they offered me 900 compensation when for a solo cabin I spent five and a half grand. And this is only after we requested we speak to the hotel side manager but we keep getting the next step down. We have requested an appointment to see her twice only to be told they will get back to us and then never do.

We have had to camp out at vista lounge and international cafe until like 2am on most days to stay cool. They are so unwilling to be proactive in talking to us. And it's just so frustrating. And if I hear from one of the people at the pursers desk telling me the room is supposed to be 24 degrees or to close the balcony door. I will lose my mind. I'd have loved 24 degrees the last week.

  10. i am currently on a 15 day round trip from Syd to png, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. To make a long story short it's been 6 days since we noticed the air con wasn't working. It's day 11 of cruise and it's still not fixed. I want your opinions as to what sort of compensation we should seek as it's been tropical heat with no air con. We have resorted to napping in vista lounge to escape heat. No rooms available to relocate to. It's affecting two balcony cabins. The communicatons with the staff has been pathetic. Unless we go ask no one tells us anything.

  11. Hi RecliningPanda, how is it on board now not to rough .....seasickness? I hope not for everyone s sake. Has Captain moved you into calmer waters?

Actually it's been pretty calm, It seemsthey have steered away from the storms. At Times you could see them in th distance but it's been ok. It's actually funny where we are now so calm its hard to believe there is bad weather but if you ask the locals it read a paper you can see how rough it is. So I think they made the right choice.

I don't want a repeat of yassi. I was in the sun and a rogue wave went over the lido deck 14. Thankfully I was siting down at the buffet but even crew were sent flying. Few broken limbs etc. so I am totally fine with them being cautious

  12. Does anyone know if Princess compensate for missed ports or is it just bad luck. I have family on the Diamond 😕

All that usually happens is any booked excursions are refunded. You might and I mean might get some port fees refunded but I have not had that happen yet.

It sucks but it's part of the deal with nz cruising. Milford sound get skipped if someone sneezes too hard. Last cruise we missed out on Tauranga and bay of islands due to yassi

Pretty much you agree to the fact stuff can change

  13. I am on board too. Confirming we missed Milford sound and Dunedin. We were diverted to Wellington via cook strait and spent the day here. At around 7pm ish. We were told akaroa was canceled due to weather. And we spent the night in Wellington.

We are set to leave for Picton tonight but I have my doubts and so so many of the crew as we would have to go west to Picton then back east past Wellington again to get to next port right through the weather.

But so far we have not heard anything yet so who knows

Yesterday was stunning but today looking a bit bad. Definitely colder today
