  1. Hi everyone! Sorry to be talking about Christmas in October but I'm so excited - we've just booked a trip on QV next year from the 28th November to 10th December. Does anyone know if the ship will have any Christmas decorations up during this cruise?  Thanks.

  2. Hi everyone!

We haven't been on Cunard for a few years, so can anyone confirm if Cunard still do special sail-away activities and if they sell the piccolos (small bottles) of Champagne? If so, does anyone know the cost of these bottles? Also, we are doing the 39 night Grand Voyage from Vancouver to Southampton and people will be boarding at San Francisco, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and New York. Will there be an official sail-away at each of these ports?

Thanks for any information you can share.

  3. Thank you bluemarble. I feel really silly now as we do have those over here but they're very thin plastic and I never dreamt they would prevent wrinkles. I'll have to give them a try before my cruise on the Queen Elizabeth in June. Thanks again.

I have been packing in dry cleaner plastic bags for years and never have wrinkles. My husband does, too. He even packs 6-8 shirts together, leaving them on hangers then inserting them inside a dry cleaner bag - easy to hang and wrinkle free. I usually combine my formal gowns together, on hangers, and similarly insert them into long dry cleaner bags.

I'm really sorry, I'm from the UK and have no idea what dry cleaner plastic bags are!! Are they like our plastic suit bags? Can someone enlighten me please? Many thanks.

  5. Looking at my VP it would appear you can only buy the coffee card for the QM2 and QV. Does anyone know why you can't buy a coffee card for use on QE? As an aside, can anyone advise if kettles are available in Britannia Club staterooms (we'll be sailing from Vancouver to Southampton)? Thanks in advance :).

  6. There have been movies played during the day. We haven’t been to see one yet so couldn’t say what the volume is like.

The extra set of stairs/elevators has been well received by us. Our stateroom is between the elevators in mid-ship and aft, and the aft elevators take you in to the middle of the Oceanview Cafe.

The layout of the Oceanview Cafe takes a couple of days to get used to, as the food stations are around the central area. I prefer the S Class layout but you get used to where things are soon enough.

It is a bit strange walking through venues to get from front to back and vice versa. You have to walk through the Rendezvous Lounge, Casino, Cellar Masters etc. whereas you don’t have to do that on an S Class ship.

That's great - thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Happy cruising

  7. Our suitcases fit under the bed with the wire basket that contains the life jackets. However, we store the life jackets in the overbed cupboards and use the underbed wire basket to store all our shoes! We always tend to over pack and love the amount of storage space on the Solstice. Have a great cruise. :)

  8. I've just found and caught up with your excellent post. Thank you for the wonderful photos and fascinating and interesting 'blog'. We are on the Constellation in August and having only been on 'S' class ships before; I'm wondering what the main differences are apart from size, age and décor? We'll be in Aqua on deck 11 and I'm a bit worried about the noise from the roof top terrace! Are movies and/or music played all day? Any information you can give would be really appreciated. Thank you UKPete and enjoy the rest of your fantastic cruise.

  9. We have hired a box twice on two different QV cruises and have had a fantastic time on both occasions. The boxes are for hire when there is a full production show and we booked through Guest Relations. If I remember correctly, you must book by 3pm on the day of the show but you can book ahead of time if Guest Relations know when the production shows are. Prior to the show, we were met by one of the bellboys who took us to a small room behind the theatre. Here we were served a champagne cocktail and some lovely canapés including chocolate strawberries, mini ice creams and small biscuits. Just before the show was due to start we were shown to our box where we were served half a bottle of champagne and a small box of chocolates. At the end of the show we were presented with a souvenir cast photo. For us it was a lovely evening and we felt it was good value for money, especially as we were celebrating a special occasion. We are booked for the first time on the QE next year and I hope to have another 'box' experience then as long as the price remains around $55.

  10. Sky lounge is the more generic name for the high deck forward lounge. On Millenium its name is Cosmos. On Constellation its name is Reflections. On Infinity its called the Constellation Lounge. On M class ships the Sky Lounges are all deck 11.

Thank you Alakegirl! Now I understand :)

  11. They held it in Cosmos Lounge on the Constellation last month. Similar the the Sky Lounge on the S-Class ships. It was always a pleasant time. The appetizers were nice, the Captains Club hostess was always around and the views were always great rom up there. 10 nights from Venice to Barcelona and it was never crowded or crazy.

We will be on the Constellation for the first time next August (only ever sailed Solstice class before) - where is the Cosmos Lounge? I can't find it on any deck plans. Thanks in advance for your reply - and any other tips about the ship would be most welcome ... we're really looking forward to sailing out of and into Venice :)

  12. I sailed the Millie after the refurb (2016) and thought the ship was tired . I was in an Aqua cabin which was fine but many of my fellow cruisers complained of poor bathrooms.

I thought the standard of food in the Oceanview cafe was very poor.

    Entertainment was sub-standard.

    Sorry but you did ask.

    Annie

Was your Aqua cabin on Deck 11 and if so, were you disturbed by the noise from the rooftop terrace? Thanks for any info you can give about your cabin.

  13. We love Blu and have eaten there on 5 different cruises. I'm not one to ask for anything that's not on the menu, but last year, when there was nothing I fancied on the menu, our waiter offered me french onion soup or shrimp cocktail and after that, I was offered it every night. Both were delicious and one evening when I wasn't very hungry I had the french onion soup as a main course (same size as the starter - which is huge!). It was out of this world on a cold, wet evening in the Baltic!! Also, I have had the 'always available' steak on a few occasions and have always enjoyed it - lovely, juicy and tender. We will be back in Blu for 14 nights at the beginning of next month and we cant wait!

I hope you enjoy Blu as much as we do.

    Happy cruising!

  14. My husband is allergic to fish and as the canapés often contain fish, we always ask our steward at the beginning of each cruise if we can have a cheese platter instead and, so far, we have always been successful (including our Baltic cruise on the Eclipse last summer)! I hope neither of us will be disappointed this cruise as I know we're on the same cruise. Good luck and I look forward to meeting you in 6 weeks!!

  15. Thank you for the replies - as always great answers and barzm, I just love the photo ... roll on April! Do you know how long it takes to get from the hotel to the port?

JohninDC I owe you a Bitter :) and I'll make it 2 if you or anyone else can advise the best way to get to the airport from the port at the end of our cruise. There will be 5 ships in port that morning and we need to get to the airport by midday! Also, it's Easter Sunday - will this make any difference?

    Thank you everyone!

  16. Advice please. My husband and I will be flying into MIA from the UK and our flights have been changed so we are now not due to arrive until 22.05 on Sat 1 Apr 17. Our TA has booked us into the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay for the night as our cruise leaves the following day. At that time of night, and after a long day travelling, what would be the easiest way to get to our hotel - taxi or pre-booked car? If we pre-book a car, can anyone recommend a good company and what time should we ask to be picked up? Also, when we return to Miami after our cruise, we need to head straight from the port to the airport - again should it be taxi or pre-booked transport? Thanks for any help you can give.
