  1. ghstudio - hope you're having a great cruise. Thanks for your live reports - really enjoying them. We're on the Eclipse in AQ at the end of July c(an't wait) - is Bistro on Five still serving crepes or has it changed to Sushi? Also, am reading on CC about changes to AQ. Did you still get the fold up bag, string bag and card holder? Grateful for any input you can give. Many thanks and happy cruising!

  2. Thank you for your thoughts on both Celebrity and Cunard. We have sailed Celebrity (Solstice class) for the majority of our cruises and have been on QV once. We loved both cruise lines but unfortunately do not like the way Celebrity appear to be heading, especially concerning their revised dress code. (We must be getting old!) We are on QV in three weeks time to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and are on Celebrity Eclipse at the end of July (this was booked prior to finding out about all the changes). I'm looking forward to both cruises, but must admit my thoughts, and your wonderful comparison, makes me think this may be our last Celebrity cruise and that Cunard may become our preferred cruise line - so that all my long dresses and my husbands tux won't have to be consigned to our wardrobes!! :D

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

  3. Hi everyone! We'll be in Lisbon on the QV on 1st June. We have done Lisbon once before and did a ship tour of the city (and loved it)! This time, weather permitting, we'd like to independently visit the Christ the King statue. I've done some research but I wonder if anyone can explain how the Viva Viagem ticket works. I understand we'll need this to get the ferry to Cacilhas. Any advice or tips would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi Oca - what a lovely idea! We're going on QV at the end of May and would be happy to get Edgar bear for you, but we live in the UK so postage would be expensive (and probably slow!). Hopefully someone from your area will be travelling before me but if not, and you don't want to wait for safarigal or tourlink99 to get your bear in July, just let me know and I'll willing get it for you.

  5. I'm on the same QV cruise - 29May - and have just spent 20mins talking to a Cunard rep. Basically she doesn't know why the shore excursions are not yet available but she says she'll get back to me on Wednesday.

  6. I'm just about to book a cruise on the Victoria for 29th May and have just found out that its a school holiday.

Is it something I should avoid?

We're on that cruise because I'm a school teacher so have to travel in the holidays. We did QV during the same week 5 years ago and there were some children on board, but not too many. However, this obviously can't be guaranteed!

If you decide to book, do come across to our roll call as it's very quiet at the moment!

  7. Thank you for this! We have an Ascot Ball on our QV trip at the end of May and I was struggling to get my head round long dress and Ascot Hat!! Maybe we'll just stick to normal formal wear as I love wearing long evening dresses! If anyone has experience of an Ascot Ball, it would be great to hear from you!? Thanks.

  8. 90 days out/ just when final payment is due. If you're on the May 29th sailing like me you're about 104 days out, keep a look out in the next week or so and it will go live .....

Thank you Crcervelo! I will be on the same cruise as you so guess I'll just have to be patient for another week!!

  9. We have sailed on both Celebrity S class ships and on Cunard QM2 and QV. The age demographics seems slightly older on Cunard but the two class system is now apparent on both cruise lines. We love QV and thoroughly enjoy the evening atmosphere on this ship. I know we're probably in the minority but we love the formal evenings and if Celebrity continue 'watering down' their dress code then we will probably be looking at Cunard as our first choice. We're fortunate to be doing QV at the end of May and Celebrity Eclipse at the end of July so it'll be interesting to do a better comparison with all the changes that appear to be happening on Celebrity. One final point, I don't know if this is important to you, but at present Cunard don't have all inclusive drinks packages like Celebrity do. I think I'm right in saying they only have wine packages, coffee cards and a soft drink package. Whichever line you choose, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time but my personal view would be consider Cunard, especially if the fares are less! Happy Cruising!

  10. Quick question please. When booking the Cunard fare, a choice of perk is offered - OBC, free parking or transfers etc. How do I know how much OBC is available for a particular cruise/stateroom category? I can't seem to find this on the Cunard website, am I missing something obvious? Many thanks.

I had to phone customer services to ask them. We were booking a 7 night cruise in an AQ cabin and were told £70 pp OBC. Went to book and it became $70 pp! I queried this and was told my initial information was down to "human error"! Happy cruising.

  11. Just off the Solstice yesterday. We will be back on Sept. 22nd and there will be many changes by then. Captain Berdos will still be Master but others will be gone by the end of Alaska season. Rose CC Hostess is wonderful but she will be leaving in a month for break.

We're on the Solstice this coming Friday :). Can you tell me who the CD is please? Many thanks

  12. Hi everyone - sorry if this seems a silly question, but we'll be taking our first TA on QM2 in August. We haven't had our departure time from New York confirmed yet but I understand it won't be before 5pm. We really want to see the Statue of Liberty and go under the bridge that everyone talks about. Will we be able to do this, change for dinner and make our 6pm sitting in the Britannia restaurant? If anyone has experienced this I'd be grateful for your comments. Thank you in anticipation for your help and happy cruising!

  13. There is a taxi line at SeaTac. Yellow Cab has the contract so there are always dozens of cars there. It will be about $40.

Another option to consider ... STILA has the towncar contract so they always have cars stationed there. Their kiosk sign says $45 to downtown.

The advantage to Stila is that they will pick you up at the curb outside baggage claim. When you have your luggage in hand, contact them from baggage claim and the driver will arrive from the garage in minutes.

With a taxi you have to walk to the taxi line which is in the garage.

Thank you very much mapleleaves. :)

  14. Sorry, I've searched the CC boards without much success! We're travelling from the UK to Seattle via Vancouver at the end of July. When we land in Seattle (14.05 local) we'll have been travelling for over 16 hours! Will it be easy to get a taxi to the Edgewater Hotel or should we consider pre-booking transport? If we need to pre-book, can anyone recommend a good "limo" company. Many thanks.
