  1. I am doing a cruise on Princess in March.  One of our stops is St. Thomas.  I love bracelets and have started seeking them out whenever we travel as my special souvenir.   How hard would it be to get to St. John from the port in St. Thomas?

    Thank you in advance.

  2. Hello,

One of my besties and I are doing a 'girl's cruise' in March on Princess.  One of our stops is St Maarten.  Since our hubbies won't be joining us, we promised to do this trip as cheaply as possible.  Cruise ship excursions tend to be expensive since you have to pay the middle man too.  Any recommendations for beaches we could visit on our own?  We would want a beach chair and maybe a bar area for drinks.  Another option is just to wander around and do a little browsing in shops, etc.

    I'd love suggestions!

    Thank you in advance.

  3. Good morning,

I feel like an idiot for having to ask this question.  I've read all the details on how to find a Roll Call for a specific (my) upcoming cruise.  I can't find it.  I read the instructions for how to start a new Roll Call.  However,  I guess this is where my stupidity comes in.  😓  I can't find the button for creating a new topic, which if I am reading correctly is the next step when you can't find your Roll Call.

I'm really excited about this cruise and looking forward to chatting and sharing insight with others, so any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.  :classic_biggrin:

P.S.  Just in case it might be helpful....

The Roll Call I'm looking for is the Regal Princess sailing on September 28, 2019.

  4. When the Mr. and I visited Bar Harbor, we did both Oli's Trolley and the Island Explorer.  Granted we were staying in Bar Harbor, so we had more time.  I think if I wanted to spend time hiking on a cruise stop, I'd either rent a car or take the Island Explorer.  Both would give you flexibility with the car being the most flexible choice of all.

Good luck with your planning.  :)

  5. Wow! Where is the "LIKE" button on Cruise Critic?!? :D

I just accidentally stumbled on this thread and am so GLAD I did! I love a romantic surprise. Coincidentally your wife and I share the same birthday. I turned 50 this year on March 27th. My husband planned a surprise birthday dinner for me at a favorite restaurant and invited my kids (grown and from a previous marriage) parents, and sister and her family. He couldn't stand it and the day before the dinner he'd already given me enough *hints* that I'd figured it out... AND... he only planned the surprise the week before. I hope you are able to hang on to your surprise as long as possible. It truly is part of the fun!!!

Like many who posted before me, I'll be following your story as it unfolds!

P.S. The Mr. is also 6'4 and I'm 5'3. I've always wondered if we'd had children together how tall they'd have been. :)

  6. Teacher,

You are assuming that people actually READ the boarding pass. It has been proven time and time again that most people do not really read it.

The best example is the very first paragraph. I can't tell you how many times passengers show up and are "shocked" that they can't board because they have packed their passport in their luggage. The typical response from them is, "well I will show them after I get my luggage"....... Sorry, it is now or never. Your luggage has to be found and your passport has to be retrieved BEFORE you are checked in and board the ship.

So, please read ALL of the information on the boarding pass.

These are probably the same people who never read the directions on a paper when given an assignment in school! :D

  7. I booked two weeks ago, and received no sort of notice. I only found out about this from Cruise Critic...

I'm not exactly sure if they plan to do staggered boarding on my June 3 cruise or not. My booking confirmation says 12-3pm. My cabin assignment email (was a GTY booking) says 12-3pm. The most easily found info on my Cruise Personalizer online says 12-3pm. But, yes, if you dig into the Personalizer deep enough, you can find a note about how Princess does staggered boarding. So, who knows?

Have you printed your eTicket Boarding Pass yet? I just printed ours for our July 1st sailing on the STAR to Alaska and under remarks it says: "Refer to Travel Summary For Staggered Check in Time"

This is our first cruise on Princess so we are super HAPPY & EXCITED to be going!! :D

  8. Hello All!

I enjoy this thread too, maybe because I'm a 'chatty' person myself??? :D

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm not either Earth or Fire, but I'm just guessing. I have dark hair (naturally) although @ 50 I've had to 'alter it' a little here and there. <grin> I have hazel eyes and I THINK a 'yellow' undertone to my skin. Did Y'all do the online color analysis with Curt I read about on another thread? My biggest dilemia is taking the pictures. On my BEST day I look horrid in pictures. I can only imagine what a make-up-less version of me will look like. <shudder> One other question. Does it have to be a recent picture? Does you change as you age or is it 'once a Fire - always a Fire' kind of thing?

  9. OMG.

So today I had (had!) every intention of doing those down and dirty, nitty gritty things that you always put off until forever.

Then, I decided that I would check out the Vivienne Files and see what was up... because I had checked them out so long ago and just wasn't in the right frame of mind to really pay attention and get anything from the postings... but NOW... she's PACKING... and showing how she's wearing her suitcase throughout her vacation.

    Again, OMG...

I just blew my to-do list! This looks like such a fabulous source of inspiration!

You know, I can outline the path that I've taken on getting my closet to its current condition.

Step 1. CJW told me that I was a FIRE and I was loaded with Chico's Travelers outfits in black and white! Unbelievable. I'd spent the better part of a couple of years "collecting" those fabrics so I could do the typical black/white wardrobe packing for long European vacations. Now I can understand why I took such lousy pictures and got to the point where I just didn't want the camera pointed in my direction. The beginning of my transformation! Got rid of all the tops that were black/white and kept all the bottoms.

Step 2. Going shopping! Since I had a plethora of black bottoms (and we all KNOW that black goes with everything, right?), I spent my time looking just looking for my colors. I didn't care what it was that I found! It just became... OMG; it's my COLOR! So, I ended up with a rainbow of tops (mostly from Chico's) and a bunch of black bottoms!

Step 3. I became more obsessed with doing a color coordination because I wanted to have more outfits, rather than just dressing like a rainbow. So, I hunted for neutral bottoms. Hit and misses.

Step 4. Zumba, baby! Starting shrinking out of my clothes and running into some serious clothing issues. Now I'm dressing mostly in exercise clothes and trying to find outfits for vacation wear. My last few cruises have all been warm weather, Caribbean cruises so I don't have that intense coordination effort of a European style vacation. So I tried to find some sundresses; some appropriate tops; some neutrals. But I haven't had an overall plan. It's been mainly a dress here and there... for formal nights... a great pair of pants that will team up with my tops... and trying to figure out accessories that will make the top/bottom pairing into an "outfit."

So, now, what I have in my closet are 3 pairs of pants that fit me (and make my butt look FIERCE). And still a bunch of tops from either Chico's or Cache. The tops are brilliant... beautiful... but not really coordinated. For example, I have a beautiful, bright yellow top in a color that only a FIRE can wear! And I have some other tops that I would put into that type of category... one off.. stand alone... what to do?

Anyway, here I am posting on Anita's thread... LOL... but I know that my FIRE sisters are over here as well, and this topic is something that we both kind of struggle with. So thank you for bringing up Vivienne again! I didn't really want to clean my kitchen anyway.....[/quote

I'm with you. I have a totally unexpected day off from work (BONUS!) and I should be productive, but I'd much rather read Cruise Critic. Now back to the topic... I really must figure out what I am. Is there a GREAT thread like this for every color 'option'?

  10. Attached is a photo of a black and coral dress I have, that I bought for the style and fit without considering the color at all, other than that it was dramatic and I liked it. But these colors are too bright and clear for an EARTH (experts please weigh in here, I think this is ICE maybe?). If you go with coral, it should be a muted color, and then you have to wonder if it is going to stand up to the black. JMHO

Why not a gold shrug with gold jewelry? I think gold and black are very elegant together.

I'm still trying to figure out this 'color thing' and where I fit in the spectrum. I am VERY drawn to this dress and the colors in it. Does this mean I'm whatever this color combo is? Are you instinctively drawn to the colors that best represent you?

  11. Hello All,

I've been reading through this thread (bottom to top ) and now I'm wondering "what" I am. I don't think I'm an "Earth" person. I tend to be drawn to black (LOTS OF BLACK), red, and some white. I also like brown and occasionally deep yellow or deep pink (fushia?) I've recently been told that I look good in turqoise. Any ideas on how to 'identify' me? :D

This is a GREAT thread. I have enjoyed looking at everyone's pictures and reading their insights. :)

  12. I am wearing a steal of a deal...seriously...a Chaps dress that I picked up on the clearance rack at Kohl's for 90% off...$8!! Woot woot! I decided to wear pearls: an inherited necklace with a pair of drop earrings and an inherited 3-strand bracelet. I wore those red shoes again.

    Coming up...Our LAST Sea Day...:(

I love this pic of you and your Mr.! :D

  13. <<Please note...I do not know if what I am about to share is the result of a less expensive dress? My formal dress was all of $49.95 purchased on sale from $69.95 (still not expensive for a formal) from Dillards. In general, the dress is well made with a built in bra (YAY!!) BUT I have a lesson to teach everyone reading this thread regarding your dress and picture taking. We ended up passing on several professionally photographed formal pictures from this formal night because of this lesson. EVERYONE ready? Here it is:

BE AWARE how your zipper looks when you are photographed...and NOTE if you need to have a "good side" face the camera. My dress has a side zipper that is VERY unattractive in photographs if my left side is exposed.>

YIKES! I think the two formal dresses I bought have side zippers on my 'better' (I say better because I'm not particularly photogenic) side (the left!) I may have to rethink these dresses!

Now I'm off to read the rest of the thread. I'm enjoying it! :)

  14. I need to subscribe to my own thread - I apologize for not responding sooner! :o

I have not done the El Yunque Rainforest tour - that was something on our to-do list that we never got around to. We'll have to hit it on another trip to San Juan.

We went to St. Croix on the Serenade. We had gotten too much sun the day before and decided to take the day off from the beach - when we realized there was not much shopping near port. We were going to go back to the ship and call it a day when we were approached by a local offering a Jeep tour, and we went for it (not the safest idea, but we're still alive and well, so obviously it worked out for us). It was a great tour. His wife was a school teacher from Texas, and he was retired - his wife decided to try an exchange program, and they had moved to the island because she was teaching at the schools. So during the day, to occupy himself, he would hang out at the cruise ships and give Jeep tours. He had a full day of tours because he had just dropped a family off when we got in, and as soon as we pulled back up to port, another family asked us how we liked it and got in the cab for a tour!

The island is really pretty, but there isn't much in the way of excursions or shopping. If you aren't going to do the beach, I'd suggest an island tour of some sort.... perhaps not as spontaneous as ours! :D

We're actually becoming increasingly frustrated with Royal Caribbean's customer service. They have been a pain in the butt to work with and have screwed us over on some things with our Monarch trip. Some of the RCI reps are just downright rude. Of course, this Monarch grad cruise is with a bunch of families that we don't even particularly like, so we aren't exactly thrilled about it... just looking forward to the "suite life," lol. The bad thing is, we were planning on telling everyone that we got a free upgrade, but with all of our reservation screw-ups, our stateroom information has been shared with the rest of the group, so we can no longer brag about our "free upgrade." Drat.

We're thinking about switching cruise lines... trying out Celebrity (though still under the same branch as Royal) or Princess. Not to mention, we're used to the way that Disney treats us, so we'd like to cruise with them again... if only they had more options!

Girl, I think you need to get yourself some new traveling companions! Nobody should travel with people they 'don't particularly like'. :p
