  1. I was in AK a few years ago and had heard that the Mozzies are as big as birds. It was September (last Princess cruise of the season).

I didn't see one critter. Just saw a Linx at Midnight, sleanking along in front of the lodge and just looking me over, never slowed down nor stopped but walked slowly. Where was my camera? Inside the lodge, charging. Duh.

  2. I assume that is the aquarium class window? Will be just fine for us as we spend so little time in a room. I have also heard that swans will often swim right up alongside the windows. would love to see one at eye level!

I think I will see a little more from my Balcony. Anyway, I'll be out there with my coffee, greeting the Swans, as they watch me put on my makeup. ;)

  3. I listen to Leo Laporte the tech guy, and he stated he was on this cruise, perhaps he could you sort this out. He very friendly and knowledgeable.

    Alex:

I love Leo La Porte and listen every Saturday on KFI 640. I think he is on the Rhine right now and what we are hearing has been pre-recorded. He may be back tomorrow and we can call in or he will probably mention lots of things about his cruise, including the internet. ;)

  4. You brought Coca leaves home?! What about agriculture inspection/declaration or drug enforcement? You do know Coca leaves have Cocaine in them?

    Right on, Betty!

I think they are still in the bottom of an old suitcase. I did not get a particular high or hit from the leaves. I shall go hunt them up. ;)

  5. Hi, Poss,

I understand there are very few "Tables for Two" and that they are very close together so that you may as well be at a 4- or 6-Top. Get to the DR early!

I also believe that the tours leave at staggered times. I like going early; however, because I chose November, it will be dark so I have decided to sign up for the latest tours and there may be less pax on the later ones.

Don't know about noise. It probably depends upon how light a sleeper you are.

  6. I think you are right, Queen.

I had a very seasoned, knowledgeable Viking Air Agent. However, although I paid my $50 each and requested Lufthansa, I ended up with KLM, Air France, and Delta (all partners).

I paid in full in February and the tickets were issued by the Airlines on 12 June; I was told that we would receive our Electronic air tickets together with all the other Viking package 2 to 3 weeks prior to sailing.

Looking at the airlines' websites, I still have the seats I selected using http://www.seatguru.com but I will keep checking in case there is an "Equipment Change."

We will not be getting up at Oh-Dark-Thirty to fly out of Frankfurt but will be able to get the Viking coach for a reasonable 10:30 AM departure. ;)

  7. Thanks, Hoya,

I did buy some Avon repellant pads. They seem to work for me in my garden. I just use them on my arms and neck (only skin that is exposed). I do not know if they contain the Deet.

The Thermacell looks like an interesting concept; however, taking the Butane may be a problem.

I would still like to know the brand name of the one recommended by ewizabeff's Nurse. ;)

  8. On the Viking Var next November, we have a Balcony because I, also, do not like the idea of being Under Water (although I am an excellent swimmer). I will be sitting out on my Balcony every morning and evening. I don't care what I am looking at. :D

  9. Today we had the opportunity to consult with a nurse who is a travel specialist. It was extremely informative! We each got a few vaccines (which weren't required by the CDC, but were suggested by her), and we were clearly explained the risks of any other health issues, how to mitigate those risks, and given a pro-active antibiotic prescription in case we find ourselves with traveler's diarrhea. She even gave us recommendations for the best mosquito repellent to use. Curious to hear others' experience with this sort of preparation.

    Hi, Ewizabeff,

I have surely enjoyed your Blogs. Thank you. ;)

Can you share your "best mosquito repellent to use?" The mozzies just love me.

  10. What I am not sure about for our next trip is the altitude sickness Rx. We are going to be in Lake Titacaca after an Amazon Cruise and Machu Pichu. We had no problems in Quito, not as high, so may just hope the cacoa tea is sufficient. Anyone have any experience?

YES! The Cocoa Leaf Tea is great! I saved my coke & water bottles and constantly refilled them from the giant teapot in the lobby of our hotel in Cuzco. Also, I bought the cocoa leaves at the airport. You put them under your tongue and feel wonderful. The little people come running up to your van as soon as you turn into the parking lot and sell a sandwich-sized bag for $1. Plenty enough to bring home and I shared with my friend. ;)

I did get a prescription from my doctor for pills to take starting the day before disembarkment from my Princess cruise and took them as prescribed. I love Machu Picchu, so magical. :D

  11. I am so glad that this is turning into a Happy Thread. I love hearing everybody's stories. I loved the Baltic on the Star Princess. No visa needed for our private tour group that I arranged for 14 for 2 days in St. Petersburg. I loved it! I would love to do The River cruise.

Thanks everyone for you nostalgic stories. :D

  12. Thanks. I guess I'd better weigh my carry-ons carefully or just plan on bringing 2 cases to check as I used to do if I have to pay $100 to check a small carry-on. The last time I flew was last August and I did not have any problem on BA so I guess things have changed since then.

  13. Qantas DOES enforce its carry-on weight limit. Two years ago, I was flying AKL/LAX. My carry-on weighed 8 kg; weight limit is 7 kg. My bag was weighed at the Counter and was deemed as overweight. I had a bag, containing souvenirs, in my carry-on. So, I removed the bag and was with in the weight limit. After I cleared Security, I put the souvenirs back into my carry-on. I was stopped as I walked to my gate and had to remove the souvenirs again at another weight check.

    I'm confused.

I don't understand what you did with your "bag of souvenirs." You were still carrying them. Did you put them under your coat or in coat pockets? 1 kg. Jeez, what are they thinking? What else would they do? Charge you? How much?

    Thanks for your help! :D
