  1. We went for our honeymoon, saying it was our once in a lifetime trip, and loved it.

Then we went back last year for our first anniversary, adding in a week on the Kenai Peninsula before our cruise, saying we'd come back for our tenth anniversary...

Now we're planning a last-minute trip for our second anniversary. Alaska is SO beautiful and there is so much to see!

  2. Not talking about the balconies now, because I know they are smaller, but are the actual AQ aft cabins (1130-1133) the same or smaller than the regular afts across the back (not the FV's or the HC cabin, just say 9160-9201). Anyone been in both categories and can compare?

We've been in 8172 and 1130 on the Millie. The cabins appeared to be the exact same size.

  3. We did an excursion in Juneau this year and I was about 5 pounds over the surcharge limit. I answered the girl honestly on the dock, but we didn't get charged for some reason - hooray! We booked through the ship and nobody on our excursion was weighed, although there was a scale visible. They seated us on the helicopter based on weight, but nobody was rude or disrespectful about it at all.

  4. Has anyone purchased the soap from Glacier Smoothies? The testimonials all have great things to say and I wonder if any CC folks have any input. Thought it might be a little piece of Alaska (glacier silt) to bring home for others. Are there are "knock offs" of this idea even though they have a patent? Appreciate any input.

I like their soap a lot. I don't know if there are knockoffs because I bought from their shop. The service was great and my sensitive skin has no issues with the soap.

  5. Kathleen - that would be awesome!! We are going to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria. Are those ports you will be visiting too? If so, I'd love to know where you saw the wine glasses :)

We're going to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Hoonah. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. :)

  6. That's great news, geekypenguin! We've traveled places where we could find NONE, so I'm glad to hear they are available somewhere in Alaska ports :)

    Thank you!

We are travelling at the end of May/early June, so if you'd like I'd be happy to try and make note of where we see them this time.

  7. My husband and I collect souvenir wine glasses. We look for wine glasses with the name of the country or city we are visiting on them. Some are gorgeous, some are tacky, but we have a great time rehashing our trips when we have a glass of wine. We like to say "Where do you want to go tonight?" when picking out the evening's glasses :)

So....my question is: has anyone seen souvenir wine glasses in Alaska? If so, which port did you see them in and which shop (if you can remember)?

    Thanks!!

I saw them at gift shops in several ports last year, but don't remember specifically which ones.

    We brought back:

    *several t-shirts and sweatshirts

*Christmas ornaments from each city and province we visited (the Canadian mountie is one of my favorites!)

*small totem pole for the mantle

    *ulu

    *sterling silver inukshuk

    *whale watercolor painting

    *decorative bowl

  8. It is an addiction problem. Somebody was telling me to drink water when I get those urges. Water??? Seriously?? That will not even curb the desire. I started chewing wrigleys double meant gum when that urge hits me. Seems to help me take the edge off.

I am a candy goblin and I have found that hard candy really helps. It gives me something sweet but last a lot longer than my beloved other candies. I'm a big fan of root beer barrels now and always keep them in my office.
