  1. May I ask if you can prebook excursions etc with OBC like you can with RCCL or does it literally mean once onboard. I have over £470 OBC and would prefer to use on excursions but do they get sold out beforehand as I would not want to risk it.

  2. Hi,

I have booked and paid for 2 staterooms on Spectrum, 27 days to sail date, because RCCL did not have staterooms accomodating 2 adults and one child (told fully booked).

At the time there were no interconnecting rooms, now there are.

Is it straightforward to change rooms, they are in a much lower class category?

I have checked in and got a great boarding time of 11am, will I lose that if I have to check in again?

Will I also lose the 300 US dollar onboard credit if they agree to switch rooms?

Incidentally, there are several 3 person occupancy rooms available now but RCCL have said I would have to pay 75% cancellation charge for 1 room.

  3. Hi,

I have booked a cruise in December 2024 from Barbados. I have booked PE and have been told the seatplan is a 2-2-2? I know it will be a TUI flight but can only see 2-3-2 plan. Is there anyone who has travelled in premium economy that knows the plan. I only ask as travelling with 2 youngsters.

    Thank you

  4. So basically, I can claim the VAT back before I leave at the airport, only to be charged it again when I arrive in the UK, a pain!

So I have tried to get a refund, the back of the receipt says I can within 30 days, as long as it is not used or opened, but the manager will not give me one, stating it is already processed and that I will have to get it in my own country!

    What can I do?

  5. Hi,

I have bought some jewellery on this Mediterranean cruise and was given the spiel on what a good deal it is as I can claim the VAT back at the airport before leaving for the UK.

However, I have just looked up, all confusing, as do I declare when I  get back to the UK what has been bought, in which case I will have to pay 20%?

I went back to the store on ship as I  thought it safer to get a refund but they said I would have to wait till I was back in the UK, this can't be right?

  6. Hi,

I am waiting on a RoyalUp bid but having second thoughts. My current cabin is a boardwalk view balcony on 11th deck quite central and I have bid on an oceanview balcony and a junior suite. Could the oceanview balcony be in a worse location? Not concerned about the suite as that would be an all round upgrade after all. I have only put minimum bids for both.

  7. We will be on Symphony, disembarkation Barcelona 16th July 2023. It sets sail again at 6pm. Does anyone know how long we can stay onboard before we have to leave with the stay awhile program?

It also mentions we have access to public areas including Windjammer, pools, etc, but would this also include the cinema showing at 12pm in Adventure Ocean?

We have already seen alot of Barcelona and have a 6 Yr old so this would be ideal.

  8. Thank you Edinburgher.

Well, I have decided on a bit of an unusual one.

We are having a guided tour in a 2cv citröen from Marseille to Cassis. It is a 3.5 hour tour with an option to extend in Cassis if we want. Thank you for your advice.

If we decided to do a full day tour is combining the above

As both lie in completely different directions from Marseille, I would advise that trying to combine the two would not be the best option especially with a small child in tow. You would be advised to choose one or the other or option #3 below.

Aix is larger than Cassis and would give you more options for walking around and a bigger choice of restaurants but does not offer a boat triip, but you may not need to venture out of the city at all.

    Option #3

This because  there are boat trips to the calanques of Cassis, also others to islands just off Marseille, (including the "Chateau d'if")and these go from the Vieux Port of Marseille which is close to where ship shuttles drop off (should your cruiseline offer this option)  And in addition to a couple of HOHOS, Marseille also has one of these little tourist trains which chugs around the city  with a choice of routes and your child might also enjoy doing that. And the city has an abundance of  shopping opportunities and dining options, but try to avoid dining at any which are actually alongside the Vieux Port as these can be poor value and quality as they are geared towards tourists.

Either or both of these options would be easier than travelling out of and back to the city with a small child.

It is worth having a look at the Official Marseille Tourist  Information website which has an english language option as it has much useful information on it. Also look at eg Tripadvisor and try googling something like "Marseille for kids".

Thank you, that is great advice

  10. We shall be arriving in Marseille in July and are travelling with a 6 year old. We have never been to France.

Just wondered if Aix en Provence or Cassis is more suitable as a half day tour.

If we decided to do a full day tour is combining the above or Luberon villages tour better. Which would involve less driving around? Thanks in advance.
