Some ports I would feel extremely safe doing a self guided tour or finding an excursion in the port (Aruba, Grandy Cayman, Cozumel, San Juan, St Thomas), but others there is no way I do anything like that (Jamaica, Belize, Honduras, DR (any of the ports), Nassau.  They may be perfectly safe, but infrastructure alone can cause issues trying to get back to the port if something happens.  In those situations is it best to have the guarantee from the cruise line.

Anything can happen anywhere, but to quote Jurassic Park "If the pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists!"   Just be sure to do your research and know your time limitations.

Agree with the avoid ports....Been to Jamaica many times, the port there is mobbed with people, yelling, pulling, following you around....just dont seem safe

  5. Port to Port shuttle service orlando to Cocoa Beach/port.  Do not use this service...We had 9:30 pick up for cruise, they arrived on time...made the rounds of 7 hotels, waited for quests, round and round, back to hotels again, picked up and dropped off at airport made another round of hotel picks ups. Arrived at Cruise port 12:15 AFTER 9:30 Orlando pickup.  Terrible service...hopefully no one else gets this experience..they have good reviews on one site...sure dont know how....almost 3 hours in shuttle. wha???

The dilemma you describe has been on growing,  the increase in the level of repeat cruisers does have consequences,  They say they are working the problem (the only way is the raise the bar), we shall see.

The number of Platinum has really grown...II don't think Carnival is prepared. Return Guest Party mobs going in the theatre, ( used to be a small group..now a huge mob. Service desk same thing....line for Platinum was sometimes longer than general line. A real problem all around.

Typically the answer is they 'buy in bulk' from Carnival with set minimums in terms of cabins booked. IF they see that they aren't meeting their own quotas, they'll eat into their commission. I certainly don't know any details but sometimes one can get a good deal that way. That was particularly true during the height of the Covid restart.

Yes, Its interesting...I spoke to our VIP Carnival Rep, and she could not come close to matching the offer from the third party. Strange....
