Intercity trains are still running every 30 minutes between Schiphol Airport and Schiedam Centrum, which is very close to Rotterdam.

From there you can either transfer to the Rotterdam Metro or take a cab to your accommodation.

    Hi there,

Do these train tickets have to be validated once on the train?

    Thank you,

    Angela

Not sure why a TA would block a refund for a cancelled cruise. It should have been a No brainer either with or without a TA to get a refund processed on a cruise that MSC cancelled. If your TA gave you grief, that’s bad on them. As a general rule I will stand by my belief that a TA is the only way with MSc. Glad you got your money back!

I guess it is because it was booked through the states and I live in Canada....very strange indeed!

Thanks for sharing.  Just starting to do research for our Mediterranean Cruise in 2023.

    Hi there,

We have a cruise booked for May 6, 2023 on the MSC Armonia. Which cruise line are you booked with?

Yes, Viking is being AMAZING. The caveat is that you have to use the money on a future Viking sailing, it is not a refund. But this is the most consumer friendly policy I've seen. Any cruise. Any time.

"Viking is allowing cruisers to postpone any cruise at any time up until 24 hours before departure with all cancellation fees waived. Passengers will receive a voucher for future travel valid for 24 months that can be used on any Viking cruise (river, ocean or expedition). The policy is applicable for any current booking and new reservations made through April 30."

I am totally NOT impressed with MSC!!! I want a total refund on our April cruise and booked excursions. My TA told me today that I have to take a FCC and if I don't use it by Dec 2021, we will get a refund! I don't want to go on a cruise any time soon. I am not impressed by the way MSC is treating their clients! Does anyone have any advice?

    TIA

Thanks for the responses! I guess another question is how important do you think Oia is to a trip to Santorini this time of year? I am looking at just staying in Fira, but my travel mates are thinking it would be sad for us to miss out on Oia.

We want to take the boat to Oia, look around and then take the bus back to Fira to site see. We may do this all on our own without a tour guide.

There are a lot of stairs so if you have mobility or endurance issues it would not be fun.  When we have been in Oia there is a small shuttle bus that we could see bringing folks up from the pier to town.  If you are concerned about the steps you probably should ask the boat operator (at Fira) if there is a bus...before you pay for the boat transportation.   I looked around the Internet and found the attached picture which shows the small pier from Oia.  It should help give you some idea of the geography.

I am not sure where folks got the idea that the bus between Fira and Oia stops at 2pm.  This is simply not true.  It runs all day and even into the night until around 10pm!.   But if there are a few ships in port that bus from Oia can become overcrowded and even full.  The driver will usually cram everyone in....but there are times when that might not be possible.  Here is a link to the bus schedule:

    https://santorinisecrets.com/santorini-bus-schedule/

In the past the boat operators simply handed a regular bus ticket (for the return from Oia) to the passengers and they could return on any bus.

    Hank

    Hi Hank,

It is a difficult walk up the steep stairs to Oia or do people take the bus into the town?

    Thanks!

I was there last week and used the boat/ferry service you will see immediately at the pier. For 15 euros you get a nice boat ride and the busses leave on the hour between 9 and 2 to return you to Fira. Service was very reliable and pretty efficient. We took cable car down with minimal wait but there were only 2 ships in port.

That's great! So, you just go to the ferry without reservations and they take you?

    How was the weather?

    Thanks.

I booked PK Travel for Athens in July - So thank you for that tip!

As far as Santorini - One of the companies is Aegean Traveller Santorini - I am looking at booking them for Boat/bus/Winery for 30 Euro each - If you want Boat/bus transfers..it is 15 Euro each.

    Thank you!

We did it on our own. We caught the first tender to the dock below Fira. That dock area is very small so you can't miss anything. It was 15 euros per person for the boat and bus return to Fira. Much less than the ship excursion ($58 US if I remember correctly). We were in Oia early before it go crowded. Very nice place to walk around without crowds. We spent a little over 2 hours in Oia as we are not big shoppers. We got shopped out in Mykonos so I didn't need another all day shopping excursion. We walked around Fira a bit and then returned to the ship with no wait at the cable car.

This sounds like the plan! Thank you for sharing this information with us!

I am very impressed with Venice Taxi Airport.  I wrote to them a few hours ago to get a quote, along with some questions I had.  I just received a reply answering all my questions.  From the cruise ship to the airport is 60 euro for 3 of us, including luggage and taxes.  The driver will meet us holding a sign with our names on it as we leave the ship.  I would go to their website and email them from there, as I did :  www.venicetaxiairport.com

Alberto was great in answering, and we will probably book with him tomorrow.

    Thanks for the tip!

We were on the Oct 17, 2018 Celebrity Eclipse cruise. We did the boat to Oia with bus return for 15€ pp. We were one of the first tender to the Fira dock. We purchased our boat tickets and took a seat on the boat. There was a total of 15 of us on the boat. The wait time to leave was less than 10 minutes and that was for only 15 of us. The boat was 2/3 empty. We had almost three hours to walk around Oia and we caught the first bus back to Fira. We walked around Fira for maybe 1/2 hour and then we  caught the cable car back to the dock. No line and we walked right on the cable car. BTW, there were 2 ships in port the day we were there. The other ship was a smallish Costa cruise ship.

    I would do this again.

    Hi there,

I will be in Santorini next year and I was wondering if you did a ship excursion or you booked the boat on your own. Thanks.

Planning  our Santorini day. Only two ships in port in September. We want to visit Akrotiri but the day we are there, a Thursday, the site is only open until 3 pm. so we will visit Akrotiri first. We will take the Cable car up from the dock to Fira, walk to the bus station and take the bus to Akrotiri, have lunch at Melina's tavern and then take the bus to Oia.

But here's the question. It seems the buses all go to Fira, and then you have to transfer. So we pay and take the bus from Akrotiri to Fira, and then we have to get off and find the bus from Fira to Oia. So do we have to pay again? To take the bus from Fira to Oia? Or can we buy a bus ticket from Akrotiri to Oia and change buses without paying again? Your experiences riding the bus is appreciated.

    Hi,

That is a very good question.

I would like to know something else, if I may add to your post?

Do we need to purchase bus tickets before our arrival or are they readily available?

    Thanks!

800 $ per night! Too expensive for me

    Hi there,

Try booking.com and search for a place that is within your budget. We found a nice hotel not far from the Grand Canal in the Cannaregio neighbourhood. It is within walking distance of the Rialto Bridge and other sight seeing places. When is your cruise?

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

The 67E flight is 6 glasses, each 60 ml. It also includes "local foods" pairings.

The 71E flight is 10 glasses, - no food

There is a 99E flight with 16 wines -no food.

There is also a cheese platter for 24E -don't know if that was the price for 2 people or 1. Wine prices above are for 2 people.

I believe 60 ml. is a tad over 2 oz.

Pricing and reservations are now available on the Santo winery website. The tastings are done as wine tasting packages and range in price, for 2 people, from  E50 to E99.    There is also a guided tour offered at E24 and a cheese platter for E24. Glass sizes are 60ml.

    That must be some wine!
