  1. I've been to Cozumel. I believe you can walk right through the Puerto Maya pier (if its Carnival) and turn to left (I think) and walk a ways and come to a beach. Or, for a minimal taxi fee, they can take a cab to Paradise Beach where the entry is $2pp. Does not include any food, but they can lay on the beach & enjoy the day. Taxi's usually cost anywhere from $8-12 (one way, and per cab) depending on where you want to go. ASK the price before you get in the cab, but a plan is always better over just telling a cab driver to "take us to a nice beach".

We will go to Roatan for the first time in January, and I've read that Carnival's Mahogany Bay port has a beach where the ship docks - just a short walk.

    Others will probably chime in.

    Thank you!

  2. I have a young niece and nephew that are going to the Western Caribbean for their honeymoon next week. They have limited funds and just want to hang around and lay on the beach. I've been there but can't remember if there are beaches right off the pier in Cozumel and Roatan?

  3. The ships are just now returning to FLL, so there haven't been any anecdotal experiences from there since the new wine policy went into effect and the enforcement of the alcohol ban has been taken more seriously. Were I to guess, I would say that FLL will be the single most strict port of all places of embarkation. Total Wine is just down the road and PCL knows this. The cruises departing from FLL are fun-loving Caribbean cruises where PCL hopes to sell lots and lots of beer and umbrella drinks. The "European mentality" that results in a laissez faire approach to alcohol does not exist, so all of the reports that you read from Venice or Southampton or Barcelona probably will not apply.

My advice would be to carry on any wine and prepare to pay the corkage fee, and leave your hard liquor at home. Buy a bottle or two from Princess with you OBC and think of them as being "free". Ask yourself this. Is an extra $20 spent on board worth not being called down to the naughty room and embarassed by having to go through your luggage and explaining what the rum runner is doing in there? Do you really want to start your cruise off with a bad taste in your mouth knowing that your luggage was searched and items discarded without you being present? If this thread has taught us anything it is that people get very irritated and agitated at the thought of Princess doing to them exactly what the Passage Contract says it will do, and that angst leads people to vow to never cross a Princess transom ever again. All of this conflict can be avoided by simply obeying the rules and carrying on your wine, paying for it, and buying hard alcohol from Princess either by the bottle or glass. If these rules are too hard to follow or too Draconian, then stay on shore.

yup, people just keep trying...cracks me up

  4. I always rent from Enterprise, each location states different rules, but every one that I have inquired to just takes a $350 to $500 hold on your debit card, and then they credit or charge the card with the amount between the deposit and the actual cost. I love Enterprise! Oh also no credit check, but they do want a couple of utility bills to prove your address.

I've been in banking for more years than I care to admit. Though I don't deal with daily client transactions anymore, I do know a bit about loans.;) My comment is this: debit cards can be a wonderful thing as long as you are fully aware how they work, ie, what companies will hold an excess above your purchase (as one of the other posters wrote). They can also hold those funds for up to 3-4 weeks.(car rental companies seem to have the longest holds). Talk to your bank about notifying you while you travel with a debit and credit card. Most (not all) banks will not make you responsible for fraud against your debit card IF they can get a hold of you to verify AND if they know you are traveling. The biggest problem is folks just not being aware of how many times they pull that baby out to use it and lose track of their balance. The overdraft fees over a week could be staggering!!

  5. I got information from Private Greek Tour this week. I noticed that to add a guide to the tour was an extra charge. The information also stated that the driver would be very well informed but could not go into the sites, because he was not an official tour guide. My question is did anyone opt not to hire the additional tour guide and just use the driver??

  6. I was giving information to the poster who did not know what Magic Jack was. I would not use this. But in port in a internet café it might work for someone.

I try very hard not to use the internet on the ship. It is too expensive and worse than dial up.

Thanks guys. I googled it too. If you have internet credits with the cruise line or can use it at a wireless cafe it would not be too bad I guess. If those two things are possible, is it a good deal?? It seems as hard as I try my phone bill after a cruise is more than I wish it was. My mom is elderly and though I don't mind the cost of calling her every couple of days, it would be nice to find a more cost effective way to do it. Tried teaching her to text but bless her heart, its just not going to happen!;)

  7. My secret which is not so secret is that I use my free minutes being elite to call home using my magic jack' date=' use my laptop and bought a cheap princess phone as I like to talk into a phone and I can call my kids who are teens from my cruises.

I have now loaded the magic jack app on my kindle and have headphones with a mic and can call using that, worked great last month calling hubby and son from Europe.[/quote']

I'm so sorry if this question has been asked but I'm too lazy to read the entire thread. Someone tell me about the magic jack. Does it make the connection clearer? is it a type of Skype call?how do you use it with your Kindle? do you need to have a separate phone #? sounds interesting to me.

  8. Thanks for everyone's help. I think I'm going to take the 11th deck. It seems there might be less of an issue up there with anything that might bug me than on the 9th! I dearly wish I was one of those people who were content to be anywhere. I think its a control thing...

  9. I'm hoping for some opinions on the best location for the Aqua class staterooms on the Constellation. Being new to Celebrity I'm not familiar with her ships. Are all the M class ships layouts the same? We are booking early in hopes to get a great location!

  10. Joe Banana service arrived on time and took us to destinations offering knowledgeable service to all of us. He even gave gifts. Rates are inline with the industry. Vehicle was nice and clean. Good and fluent english speaking and knows Italy inside out.

    Highly recommended..

How soon do you need to reserve with them?? We won't be there till Oct of this year.
