  1. I think it's about what YOU make of it. I am 41 and my husband is 43 and we LOVE Holland America. We don't drink and we are hermits for the most part. We bring DVDs to watch at night in our room (for this cruise it's last season's Criminal Minds that we just got in the mail). We like that it's not a "party atmosphere" and there AREN'T a lot of younger people. Sad but true. :) So I think it's more about YOU and not as much about the ship. I know people will disagree with me, but you could put us on a boat to no where and we would be happy because we are on vacation and on a cruise. :)

But I will try to give you my observations but keep in mind the above. Not a lot of things bother us. We don't expect people to wait on us hand and foot, we don't get mad when the food isn't perfect, we just shrug and move on. We couldn't care less when our room steward cleans our room, be that 8am or 1pm. Someone smokes on the balcony next to us? Yuck, but whatever, we go inside and wait for them to be done, then go back outside. That's just the way WE are.

I WILL admit that what gets me the most on cruises is the attitudes of other people. The crabby, whiny, mean passengers that yell at the crew and other people. Since we work in customer service it just makes us so sad for the workers.

Anyway, I think if you like a more "mild" time, you will enjoy Holland America. If you want to be entertained at all times with music from "today" and bartenders who dance and throw bottles around at the bar, you might consider another line. :)

:D I just started reading your thread, still on page one, but couldn't go any farther without telling you that we must be related on some cosmic cruise cousin level....all the words that you spoke are EXACTLY my husband and I. Every word could have come out of my mouth. I look forward to your thread even though your trip is now coming to an end. :(

  2. The pictures are amazing, but its not until you're there in person that you realize just how vast it really is. Pictures can't even come close to doing this place justice. You should go there.

:D :D EXACTLY, Well said......that is why we are going again next month!!!!!

Great review, your story telling is wonderful!! I am looking forward to more tonight!!!

  3. :D I am glad to hear you came out of your bubble and went to Alaska. It is amazing how many people won't go because they think it is a "cold" cruise. I will be going next month for the 9th time, enjoying whatever kind of weather is in store for us. We have experienced everything from rain in the 50's to the sun in the high 80's. The beauty of Alaska beats it all. I am looking forward to more of your trip. I love reading about cruises!!! Thanks for sharing!!

  4. :D Thank you for sharing your trip experience. We will be doing a B2B in September 2014, Boston to Boston. I figured if I was going to fly across the country then I would make it worth my time. I am excited to go to these places and what I don't see the first week, then I can do it on the next week!! We will be on the Maasdam also.

  5. What? you found someone to go with you and didn't ask me!!! You didn't admit that on our roll call!;)

 Gee, I am sorry...we have a room for three, do you want to join us?? I am really looking forward to it. All of these wonderful posts on this cruise have been Awesome. So, I think you should pop over to the island when we are there and show us around, then we can talk about Panama Canal!!!!

  6. :D I am surprised that my laptop is still working with all of the drooling it has caught!! I enjoy reading about adventures on the 14 day Amsterdam Alaska trip. I was on her in May for 7 days and have been drooling over the 14 day since then...I am booked on the last voyage on September 7. I am looking forward to your reviews of the northern ports that we have never been to. Thanks :D

  7. Gotta tell everyone how much help you all have been. We think we'll take the ferry to Old Town, as this is the type of thing we'd enjoy most.

    Gracias,

    Pedro y Esteban

:D Hey, I thought you were Pete and Steve....LOL

Thanks to everyone that posted information, we are going in April 2013, also stopping here. I am lurking around Panama threads to soak up all the information I can. :D
