  1. Only you can know if its worth it or not based on your drinking habits. Generally around 6-7 drinks you are ahead of the game. Yes they cut you off after 15 drinks.

Do a search...there are a ton of Cheers threads on here all providing peoples opinions, calculations and aspects of the program.

Depends on what you're drinking. With the foo-foo drinks, it's about 6-7 to break even. With beer, it's about 9-10, just to break even!

  2. I appreciate this help. Perhaps I'm not being clear. We have greater than 2 people in one room, and 2 in another. What if we simply switched---put the two that wanted to do Cheers in the two-person room, and the rest in the other room. Then, go buy Cheers. That would be the end of it.

As long as you switch prior to purchasing Cheers, that would work fine.

  3. Exactly, and I'm sure you have broke a few of your own.

In 51 years, never knowingly, but that's really not the point either, is it? As my mother used to say "if your friends jump off a bridge are you going to jump off too?". I don't believe that if other people get away with breaking rules that it is then okay for me to do so also but I understand some people do.

  4. I understand their reasoning behind the policy, and yes it has to do with sharing ( stealing ). But that policy does not work as well you might think. Example, lets say my wife wants the cheers but I don't, but if she gets it I have to as well. Do you think I'm going to buy it and just let it go to waste ? No, if I'm not a big drinker I will just share mine with other people.

Well, I guess if you're bound and determined to break the rules, no one's going to be able to stop you.

  5. I think the difference to the bottomless bubbles is the first word. You can get unlimited drinks. I have done booze cruises in the past. A large group and each person in the group had to buy the drink card but it was unlimited. With the Cheers program you are limited to 15 drinks I think that is a bit different. Even if you share you are not getting more than 15 drinks.

That's very true but how many people can literally drink 15 drinks a day, 7 days in a row, and not be falling down stupid? On my last two cruises, I've seen what 15 drinks a day can do to people. Not everyone goes on a cruise just to see how inebriated they can get. If sharing were allowed (or if only one person in a cabin could buy the card), my wife and I could easily get along (and get pretty sloshed) on a single card and still not come close to hitting the 15 drink a day limit.

  6. That's my complaint about the program as well. I wish they would do away with the policy that every adult in a cabin must purchase it.

My belief is that policy is specifically in place to keep people from sharing (stealing). Just imagine how many times a DW would say "I don't drink that much so I'm not going to buy the program" and then ask DH to grab her a drink on his Cheers card? We all know this would happen, look at the threads here about the Bottomless Bubbles program and how many people from the same cabin not only share those cards but think it's okay as well?

  7. It is a shame that Carnival does not make exceptions to the "everyone in the cabin" rule. I am traveling with my parents, who are 87 and 90, and diabetic. There is no way they can drink, and I am sure I am going to need to!

The problem with giving one person an exception is that everyone will expect an exception. I'm glad they are finally sticking with at least one rule they have created and enforcing it across the board.

  8. I'm a professional filmmaker and that decided to bring along my camera on a Carnival Victory Souther Caribbean cruise with my family. I can't believe how pretty the islands were. I had an entire beach all to myself in St. Kitts!

Awesome video. You did a wonderful job. Carnival should hire you to make their commercials!!! :D

  9. Were you tipping over the top while the bartender was knowingly breaking the rules? I imagine as long as they are making money why would they care if Carnival was losing some?

Should you really have to be told? It's common sense. I suppose they'd have to be told not to go into Golden Corral buy one dinner and share among the family too?

A lot of people in this world don't have or use common sense. Cruising is a different animal for most of us and there are certain things that are different than elsewhere and so I stated it would not be out of the realm of imagination to believe that while sharing at Golden Corral is a no-no, it might be okay on a cruise ship. In how many restaurants can you order multiple meals or seconds and thirds without paying extra like you can in the MDR? But, big but, once someone knows it's against the rules, they should not do it anymore instead of rationalizing their lapses in judgement away.

  10. Exactly ;)

    · The “Bottomless Bubbles” unlimited soda program is non-transferable and may not be shared. Guests or family members who would like to enjoy soft drinks through this program must purchase their own sticker.

But I'm sure no harm was done *rolleyes*

I truly don't think any harm is done by people who don't know that they are not allowed to share and are not told by the employees on board. But once you know, then it is purely theft as you are then getting a product that you know you shouldn't be receiving and are not paying for. I have no problem giving someone the benefit of doubt but when they know the rules, then they are expected to follow them. We did all voluntarily agree to those rules (whether we like them or not) when we decided to cruise with Carnival. That is why I have zero tolerance for smugglers.......they are hiding their contraband because they KNOW it is wrong and yet are still trying to get away with it. Same with sharing if you know ahead of time it's not allowed.

  11. That's why you can't buy a bottomless bubbles card for children. Oh, wait....

Yes, you can buy a soda cards for the kids......for EACH kid (that wishes to partake). You cannot buy a single card and give all of your kids soda from that one card. Then again, I guess you can get away with stealing (which is what it is) if you buy only one soda card and give 2-X number of kids drinks from it if you're slick enough. :(

  12. Again, as stated by others, here are the rules for the Cheers Program directly from the Carnival website. Note the highlighted passage.

    The following restrictions apply:

    • Guests must purchase the program for the entire cruise - this program is not offered on a per day basis.

    • Guests must be 21 years or older to purchase and agree not to give to minors.

    • Each adult (21 years or older) assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program.

    • Only one drink at a time may be ordered. No sharing is permitted.

    • Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this program is used within US waters.

    • Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason.

    • Program allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hours period (6AM - 6AM).

    • Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason.

    • Program is non-refundable.

    • The Cheers program is only available onboad.

  13. I assume that now that you know you're not supposed to share, you won't. :)

I'm sure that Carnival doesn't want people to share their alcoholic drinks with fellow passengers who are not on the Cheers program...I get that, I understand that and would never do that.

They don't care if you order a soda for your own child.

I guess I assumed incorrectly (my bad) that you would understand the rules against sharing. I've never seen anything in the rules that stated no sharing of drinks under any program........unless it's your own kids.

  14. All the bartenders knew exactly who the NA drinks were for...My kids were with me when I handed it to them at the bar. No questions were ever asked...ever. They would even split Crown royal and OJ for me in the evening so I could have a double CR and Coke while my daughter drank the OJ at the bar (because apparently Orange Juice by itself wasn't allowed)

That was the bartenders suggestion BTW when I asked for an OJ for my daughter and was told that technically fruit juice by itself wasn't part of Cheers...He said go get your wife's card and order two drinks....he brought me a double size glass of Coke and Crown Royal and an extra single shot of Crown Royal and a clean glass of OJ for my daughter and handed it to her. I poured the second shot of CR into my glass...Everyone gets what they want. Remember...bartenders idea, not mine!

No one ever questioned me once... I didn't think I was ever breaking any rules.

Like I said the only thing they stuck to was waiting 5 minutes and that I couldn't get fruit juice on it's own. Even at dinner they would bring soda for the kids and wine for my wife and I every night without a single concern (they brought the wine 5 minutes after the soda)...They never questioned us there either, not once...not ever.

When I purchased the program on the first day if I specifically asked that if I ordered NA drinks for my "kids" would they count towards the 15 limit...The answer was that only alcoholic drinks counted towards the 15 limit and that virgin drinks and sodas were unlimited... They didn't say you can't share with your kids.

It was never even implied...never...that I was breaking the rules.

I understand that no one can ever know every rule or law and that everyone has broken some rule or law unkowingly. But someone knowingly breaking the rules (such as smuglers) is a completely different ball of wax. I assume that now that you know you're not supposed to share, you won't. :)

  15. Really enjoyed Cheers on our Dream cruise in April. Did.well on it especially with the NA fruity drinks for kids that weren't on 15 limit. Now that its $120 a day for my wife and I, I just don't see the value. It might not be worth it on our Feb. Breeze cruise, especially at.8 days worth. Definitely on the fence now.

While it's true that the virgin drinks do not count against the 15 drink limit, there is strictly no sharing of drinks!

  16. I agree about the hotel part but I should have emphasised that if you want a drink on your balcony you will be robbed by their high pricing if you buy from the cruise bars. In a hotel we always take a few drinks with us when we are getting ready, relaxing etc etc:)

With the baggage screening nowadays that may not be possible. They are basically holding you to ransom IF you like to have a drink.

Really??? Holding you to ransom??? You do know that cruising is a voluntary activity which no one is required to do, right???

  17. Anyone know what production shows they have or what shows are in the main theater?

They have a Motor City show, a Latin show, the Hasbro game show, and a Diva's show in the main theater. Missed most of them due to being with James in the Cinn-a-bar (piano bar).

  18. Do they have hair dryers in the cabins? We have one of the aft ext balconies that's smaller so it's missing the couch and some of the cabinets if that makes any difference. I'm trying to pack in a small bag since it's only 2 days on the ship, but my hair dryer increases the size of my carry on if I need it. :)

Yes, they have hair dryers in the cabin but it's in a drawer in the main cabin, not in the bathroom

  19. Was going to post the same thing. We were on the same cruise as you and spent every evening hanging out in the Cinn-a-Bar with James and the regular crowd. James is awesome! I think he's on the Glory until July or August, would definitely recommend stoping by, especially if you enjoy piano bars.

His current contract runs through August. Hope he get's a new contract, maybe on the Ecstasy so I can see him in December! :)

  20. I can second the breakfast burritos at the Blue Iguana Cantina. The guys who work there were very friendly. The ship is big and I would suggest printing a map of the ship and taking it with you so you can find some of not so obvious spots on the ship.

If you do try the fish and chips maybe try asking them to drain the oil before dropping them in the basket. The fries were nothing special but the fish was tasty except I found it a little oily since it seems the cook just took them from the fryer straight to the plate.

The alchemy bar is a nice spot to hang out in the afternoon while waiting for dinner.

On my cruise the piano bar didn't have much of a crowd. I wish it was better.

Getting on and off the ship went very smooth, the crew was friendly and hard working. You will have a great time.

On my cruise (28 Apr - 05 May) the piano bar (Cinn-a-bar) was crowded every night. James is an awesome entertainer!!

  21. Out to sea! - Omelets were made to order :)

MS52 - The breakfast in Moderno was for everyone when we sailed. I don't know if the restaurant is technically called Moderno in the mornings. It was on the same deck as the Garden Cafe (main buffet), and had a small buffet with hot and cold offerings as well as the made-to-order omelets and waffles.

At lunch time that same restaurant has really yummy pizza, too! (like puddles99 said earlier)

    Bitte ;)

Hot diggity damn!!! I love a freshly made omelet made the way I want almost as much as I love lobster!! Woohoo!!! :D

    Vielen, vielen Dank!!!
