  1. Not quite accurate. You do not have reasonable expectation of privacy on your own property. Again, right to be, right to see. People can take pictures of you on your patio all they want and it's perfectly legal, as long as they are not physically trespassing. Same goes for balconies.

Not if they are having to stick a camera around the divider to capture a photo of you. No different than if you have bushes surrounding your pool outside and someone sticks a camera through the bushes to take a picture of you.

  2. If you're outdoors, you are in public. You are the only one that has paid access to your own balcony, but you don't really have an expectation of privacy there.

You are not in public if you are own private property. And for the purposes of this argument, if you are on your balcony you are own private property (you rented it for the week). If no expectation of privacy was expected there would be no need for dividers between the balconies so yes, an expectation of privacy is expected.

But what I can't believe is the butthurt flowing over some cigarettes.

  3. I am straying from Carnival and sailing out of Boston on the Norwegian Dawn next week. If Carnival had a ship out of Boston to Bermuda, I would be on the Carnival ship. Anyway, what didn't you like about NCL compared to Carnival and what did you like? We are going to have a great time! First time to Bermuda.

No dedicated dining time. Crappy pizza. Very little time in the day to get crappy pizza. Much of the deck space dedicated to kids activities. Big screen TV on very few ships and the ones that have it they black the entire aft sea view by putting it back there. MDR food not as good as Carnival. They nickel and dime you for everything. There's more but I think you get the gist of it. IMO, NCL sucks and the only ship of theirs I will ever sail is the POA and that's only because friends are twisting my arm to do it.

  4. I think this was on another cruise line, but they took a small folding knife that uses a replaceable utility-knife blade as its blade. These blades are only about 3" total and almost half of that is covered by the part that holds it. They said I'd get it back but they couldn't find it when we disembarked.

Recently I visited a courthouse to attend a wedding. I put my keys in the tray to go through the metal detector and he sees my can opener on my keyring. You know, the little folding one that used to come in military food packs. I think they called it a P-38. It has a point and a sharpened edge about one-half inch long.

    File:P-38_Can_Opener.jpg

He says I can't enter the building with that "blade". I should have asked to see a supervisor, but my kids were with me and she hates to see Dad make a scene. I just tossed it in the trash.

    Yes, it's a P-38 used to open K rations.

  5. Really? lets get real.

"I am waiting for them to get tired of all the smugglers and have them get off my ship clause! Boot people and they will think twice about breaking the rules. If someone loses a cruise or 2 they may learn the lesson not to do stupid things. Suite upgrades anyone? "

Then they should do the same for anyone that breaks any of the rules. Oh we sent you a e-mail that boarding is 1-3, and you got here at 10. No cruise for you. My son is currently on a cruise, he read that he could not take bottles, so he brought a 12 pack of soda(cans). He did not know that it had to be in his carry-on. He also had his hands full bringing on their 1 year old. They took away his soda and he will not get it back. Some people make honest mistakes. Should we throw them all off? By the way, I do not drink, but I am tolerant of those who do.

If the email part of your statement was in the cruise contract, I would agree with you. It's not so there goes that agreement. Honest mistakes are rarely made by people who read their contracts.

  6. I'm confused on this.....here is the current policy on carnivals website and I just called to confirm. Did you have more than the allowed amount? I am curious because we celebrate our anniversary on a cruise in October and have been saving a special bottle but I don't want to risk having to trash it. You may see a nice couple chugging that bottle before embarkation LOL

"At the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750 ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne per person in their carry-on luggage."

Key words. Carry on luggage is fine. Checked luggage (luggage given to the porter) is not.

  7. Actually they can. There is a big difference between someone who shows up with the bottle in their hand asking to have it stored until the final day (which is exactly what happens in ports visited) and someone who conceals it in their luggage.

You have obviously missed the purpose of the thread. No one who has alcohol in their hand at the security check in point is going to go anywhere near the naughty room. To go to the naughty room, the alcohol had to have been in one's luggage.

  8. Really?

    That's not my understanding.

Do you have a Carnival page to reference?

My understanding was that original, unopened, sealed containers they just held until the end of the cruise.

How would you 'bring it back to your car' if you go to the naughty room after you've sailed?

    gary

You have the option of taking back to your car if you try to carry it on (as all alcohol is supposed to be taken this way). If found in your checked baggage it goes in the trash.

  9. Seriously, the world isn't going to come to an end if someone buys a couple cigars. be careful of knock offs. Good cigars will be kept in a humidor from what I've been told. If they are sitting out on a counter they are probably junk. (This is what I was told, I do not smoke). They will also be expensive so a $5 cigar will not be a real Cuban.

No, the world isn't coming to an end because of buying a couple of cigars. The world (or at least the civilized part of it) is coming to an end because almost everyone thinks the rules/laws don't apply to them and they can do whatever they want.

  10. Did you not read that I was concerned? Of course you didn't

The word concerned doesn't really lend itself to positive thought

The word concerned can be taking different ways. Such as I am concerning myself more with getting into office the other first. ;)

  11. Don't steal them! They're needed to keep the peace at sea! HAHA

No, not steal. Just reallocate to create a few new smoking sections. See my previous post for a possible idea. :D

Edit to add: Really? Someone didn't like the thought of using one in the theater for a joke and had the post removed? Wow!

  12. As a non smoker, I really like these signs. It leaves no question.

It tells the smokers where it is cool to light up, and it indicates to me that if I don't want to be a smoky environment, to stay away.

    Win-win if you ask me.

I hope to see more of those around the ship.

If I can snag a few you just may. ;)

  13. Hi there. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. We were also considering Carnival for our next cruise after hearing so many say that Carnival is cheaper than Royal for a comparable product.

We're comparing ships of similar size, itineraries of similar length, and cabins of similar type. So far, we haven't been able to find anything significantly cheaper. The only exception are some last-minute cruise deals CCL is offering - but Royal does the same thing (even though they say they don't).

We're still hoping to snag a deal of sorts so we can give Carnival a whirl! I should probably clarify that we like to sail in the fall - less kids on the ship. It could be that we just haven't found the right combination yet of ship, cabin, itinerary, date. We retire in 2 years. After that we'll be much more open to last minute deals.

Check the first 2 weeks of December. Should be great prices there.

  14. Most of my coughing following after a few hours (and a couple of nights) in the casino is usually during the night as I'm trying to sleep, or over the next day as my lungs try to expel the particulate.

I just accept that as part of the casino experience. Hopefully I won't fall victim to any second hand smoke aliments !

    Tom

    Particulates. Awesome word! :)

  15. One would hope so but it doesn't work out that way when there are lots of smokers on board. I never sit at the casino bar but when I cannot even walk past the casino without coughing and gagging then it's a problem.

So don't walk past the casino. Problem solved. Or hack and cough as you walk past so the smokers can get a good chuckle. Your choice.

  16. I'm the original OP. I thank you all for your opinions. I made my decision that I will not be bringing back Cuban cigars from Cabo after the first poster that said it's not legal. My dad won't even know I was thinking about this...it was going to be a surprise. But until it's legal to do so...I'm just not going to do it. I may not agree with the embargo but I do respect our U.S. laws. That's the end of this thread for me.

As another poster suggested, the Dominican Republic has some excellent cigars your father may like. Granted, they won't carry the sentimental value but for the purpose of smoking, they are great.

  17. OK I have been messing around on the Website. If I try and look for a 6-7 day cruise the pricing is better. I can book B2B on a short cruise and it comes up less than the 8 day Southern. It is still a lot higher on the Southern route.

If I can't get the southern then I will look for a cruise that has half moon cay. I love the private islands for a beach day.

    Thanks for helping

Amber Cove (Dominican Republic) is Carnival's newest private beach (not an island but it might as well be).

  18. It just goes to show how much kool aid everyone is drinking if you really think 1 cigar is so significant in the scheme of things

I'm more concerned about seeing another "first" in the oval

    Office 😱

You want Hillary in office and you're talking about others drinking koolaid? What a hoot!!!

  19. My understanding is that if Early Saver, you can price match to a past guest rate for price drops, BUT you remain Early Saver. The exception is if you price match to a guarantee rate where Carnival chooses your cabin. In that event you lose Early Saver.

I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong.

    Happy sailing!

That is correct with the exception that one is not supposed to be able to price match to a GTY rate with ES. There have been reports of it being done (and I have done it once personally so yes, you do lose ES if you do that) but it's not supposed to be done.

  20. What on earth are you talking about? You said one can't change anythng when working with a TA. Your comment: you can ask your TA to change things or contact Carnival yourself. But lose control of the ability to negioate yourself.

Yea, so? How else would you change your dinning time, go to Carnivals IT center to go into your booking to change dining time? Go to your TA's office and ask to use their computer to change something?

Sorry, you're not making any sense.

    LOL.......you're funny. :)
