  1. Well, my plan of an afternoon of outfit trying on is delayed :( DH is sick and has taken over the spare room (aka the cruise room). I will try and take some pictures of some things this afternoon as I've bought a few things I could use a second opinion on. Also, I bought some cute cruise worthy shoes that I'm now second guessing.

Also, does anyone know of a good tutorial for easy updo's? I know there's probably tons on youtube, but I'd like some direction as to which ones actually are good before I spend hours and hours.

I realized I forgot to answer my own question!! I'm going to bring my own hair dryer (travel size) as hotel/cruise ones are usually terrible for my hair. I'm also planning my flat iron, some mousse (aussie sprunch), hairspray (no idea what kind), and john freida brunette shampoo and conditioner that I'll put in travel sized containers. Also a brush. a comb and hair elastics. Oh and some pins if I figure out this updo!

  2. You look great. You look very young! I can't believe the change in you. What ever you are doing, keep doing it.

I agree!! With every cruise you're looking younger and younger :) Love the hair!!

Speaking of which .... How much hair "stuff" do you bring? How much do you typically use at home?

  3. So, I told my hair dresser to go to town and do anything she wanted (color and cut) as we are leaving a week from today for our cruise. Don't panic, it didn't turn out bad so that I am inquiring as to how to cover it with a hat. Actually, I always tell her to do what she wants. She has done my hair for over 10 years and is really talented...therefore I completely trust her. This time she really let loose and brought out my fun personality in my hair...and she even took a before and after picture that I thought I would share. (OK she did go a little crazy on the styling, but that only lasted til I got it wet.)

(Yes it is maroon, strawberry blond, blond, and blue!)

    Peggy

Peggy - Your hair looks fantastic!!! You have a very talented stylist.

  4. To clarify my last remarks, I'm only speaking for myself, of course, but keeping my weight down has never been easy for me, and I've always found it easier to get rid of an extra 5 pounds than an extra 20. On vacation, I find that I often eat less (no snacks lying around) and walk more (so many sights to see), so the clothes typically fit the same when I'm on my way home . . .

    I completely agree with this!!

Yes, I eat dessert every night. But we also take the stairs EVERYWHERE unless I'm in heels.

Yes, I may eat larger portions. But I work out EVERY day - running on deck into the wind isn't an easy workout ;)

Yes I have cocktails. But ... well, no buts here, we do walk A LOT.

Last cruise I found I was up maybe 3 pounds. Gone within a couple of days after drinking lots of water and back to my regular diet.

  5. Hello, hello!!! I'm back!! I've been reading and catching up the past couple of days and and pleased to report that not only is my next cruise in less than 30 days, cruise packing (and buying ) is in full swing. I popped out at lunch and bought some really cute shoes that I think are cruise worthy. I'll try and get a picture posted tonight.

With the metallic polish comment - a coworker had gold polish on that looked stunning!! She did it herself but I'll have to ask her the name again as I'm drawing a blank here ...

Looking forward to seeing pictures of what everyone is bringing on their next cruise :)

  6. Hi everyone!! We've been back from our cruise for a couple of weeks and I'm just uploading pictures tonight. Hopefully I got some decent ones of some outfits to share :)

For Indiana's question - I had a regular spa pedicure done the week before my cruise and other then regrowth, it still looks great. But my hands are another story - personally, if you want them to last, I'd go with the gel.

  7. LifeisButaDream - LOVE your outfits!!! I can't wait to see pictures of you wearing them :)

So, I'm *almost* all packed, found a cute teal t shirt at Costco that matches great with a fun teal and sand skirt I bought at Old Navy last summer. I just need to figure out how to pack an extra outfit (or two ;)) into the already jammed suitcase.

I am very proud of myself though. Mine AND DS's clothes are in 1 suitcase and 1 carryon. Only my toiletries and a couple of pairs of shoes need to go into DH's bag. Yay me!

  8. So we're starting to pack today, and while I have my outfits chosen (and re-chosen ), I'm looking at this pile of clothes and thinking What am I thinking - there's no way I'm going to wear this many clothes!!

We have a 7 year old that we're cruising with so there will be no sleeping until noon and i an't stand being in a bathing suit all day, so I'm wondering how much clothes I should be packing strictly for "daywear". I have swimming, workouts and evening figured out, it's just the casual day meals/movies/casino??/hanging out on board when you're not wearing a bathing suit kind of clothes ... I have several outfits that mix and match well, but it just seems like a LOT.

If it helps to clarify, we're on a 5 day with 2 ports. One port is Labadee (so a beach day), the other port is Jamaica which if we do anything it'll be a water/beach adventure.

Also, how likely is it that I'll be able to be sleeveless all day on board? I'm just realizing I don't really have any light coloured cardigans/cover-ups as everything is mostly black in my wardrobe. Great for Ontario, not so great for the Caribbean ;)

    Thanks for the advice :)

  9. Those are really adorable shoes!! (Personally), I think it would be a little much for the all patterned dress with the patterned shoes. But it you broke up the "patterns" with say a khaki capri, a patterned turquoise top would work.

I'm getting so very excited :) We leave for Florida next Sunday morning so this weekend is the final try-on and pack as I don't get much of a chance to get anything done during the week!!

  10. Thank you everyone for all the opinions and advice. The green print dress was something I bought on a whim for my nephews baptism 2 years ago when I was having a meltdown that nothing in my closet fit . It's gotten a lot of wear since as it's incredibly comfortable.

This morning I was washing some of DS's summer clothes and trying to figure out dinner outfits for him that would coordinate what I'm planning on wearing. DH is doing a lot of , but he's paying attention as he's planning on coordinating quite a few outfits as well. Goes to show the influence this fashionista has in this house of boys ;)

  11. Thanks for the tips Murf, but all I'm getting is the red "x". Maybe I don't have enough posts yet to be able to post pictures properly??

Congrats to everyone who found great deals yesterday on their bargain hunting adventures :) I'm pretty pleased with mine, although not many brand names where I was looking. I'll just have to hunt harder next time ;)

I forgot to mention yesterday my SIL was over yesterday (who is my style guide because she's AMAZING putting looks together), and was so impressed with what I had put together so far and the deals I was getting. I'm trying to convince her to come on our next cruise as I think we'd all have a huge blast together!!

  12. I all ways wear flats. I just can't wear heels. I love them on others and wish I could wear them. They look so nice when dressed up. But for me it is safty first and comfort. Therefore, I wear flats.

Maria - I bought some of my best flats from Payless at all places!! I typically don't wear heels as my DH is about 1/2 inch shorter then in in no shoes. Plus I'm the biggest clutz - if there's something to trip over, i will find it, so flats are usually my safest option as well. I'm hoping I can manage not to break an ankle or something in the couple of hours I'm wearing heels :p

  13. Thanks Murf!! I'll try the pink with the other sandals and see if it makes a difference.

So here's some more casual things I was thinking during the day ... no shoes because I'm sure they'll either be my tried and true flip flops (black and white) or Columbia beige sandals.

Pink capri's: Not loving this outfit, but the pants are super comfortable, maybe just need to find something else?

Black plaid shorts & blue top: Again, it's OK. Not sure if I like the idea that it's a polo top??

Green dress: i'm wearing white wedge flip flops I bought for a wedding a couple of years ago, They're really comfortable but I haven't really worn them since :(

If someone can tell me how to insert the pictures (like Indiana has done, I can do that if it's easier). I put the pictures on photobucket.

  14. The pictures aren't the greatest, and I look terrible but you get the jist. I haven't figured out many accessories, but here are some of the evening outfits I'm thinking. Comments are welcome :)

Green dress with green wrap: Shoes are small gold heels (think flip flops but higher), rhinestones on the front.

Green dress with black bolero: Same pictures as before.

Formal dress #1 option: Shoes are red heels, closed toe.

Black separates: Thinking either black or silver shoes.

    http://s1323.beta.photobucket.com/user/JediMom007/media/P1190321_zpsdc309abc.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2#/user/JediMom007/media/P1190306_zpsd81ff577.jpg.html?sort=3&o=7&_suid=135862949496209816566818714445

Pink and orange ... Personally I'm not loving this one - maybe it's the black shoes??

I'm going to see if these work and then I'll post some more :)

  15. After reading all day and being inspired by all the cute (and totally cruise worthy outfits), I thought I'd drag out my summer clothes and see what I had to work with. Sadly, not much that's (cruise) appropriate. :( I would in an office so there's a lot of great office appropriate clothes, but not in bright, fun, tropical colours.

I think I have the evenings figured out - formal I have 4 possibilities (a gown, bolero pants? and a sequined top, a red flowy cocktail dress and a black and white dress with some bling. I'll try them all on again and post some pictures and see what you all think as I'm only bringing one of them ;)

The other evenings I have 2 dresses for sure that I think would be fine and then possibly black (dressy) capri's with a couple of tops to mix and match.

My issue is during the day. We're on a 5 night cruise with 2 port days. One is Labadee, so that's easy as it's obviously a beach day. The other day is Jamaica. We're being "spontaneous" and deciding on an excursion when we're on the ship. That part is killing me, but I`m trying to go with it

    So my questions are:

    1) How much casual clothes do you bring. I don`t think I want to be hanging out in a bathing suit all day until it`s time to get dressed for dinner but I have no idea what I should bring for hanging out on the ship all day. Can you guys give me examples of what you wear for sea days. (Sorry, I messed up the keyboard so no question marks).

    2) 2 bathing suits and 1 cover up OK for a 5 day. Like others, I plan on losing weight (goal is another 35 pounds to go, hopefully by summer). My cover up is cute, it`s from Land`s End, it`s royal blue and like a shift dress.

    3) Would I be completely out of place in black, beige or jean bottoms. Does a jean skirt work or should I just leave that at home.

    4) Shoes. Being a Caribbean cruise, would I be completely out of place in closed toe heels for formal night, or should I try to find some strappy sandals that would work.

Because I have more than several years to go before I can enjoy retirement cruises, I need to focus more on my work and everday wardrobe for now. I don`t mind adding a couple of new pieces, especially if I can make them work for both cruising and regular summer wear here, I just need to know what to get to add the most bang for my buck ;)

  16. DH & I have a date this afternoon - senior citizen movie and then dinner. Dress pants, sweater and wedges will be the outfit du jour.

The restaurant is a new brewpub with a nice menu. We'll see sweatshirts & ballcaps...and I guess that's appropriate for a weekday, it's certainly acceptable to many. BUT, I'm on a date and even though we're an "old married couple", it's nice to have DH say, "You look good."

    quote]

This reminds of me of our first trip to Disney World 3 years ago. I'm a scrapbooker and by extension a HUGE picture taker (3000 pictures that trip :_)) We were going through the trip and DH often said,"You looked really good that day. I on the other hand look like a bit of a slob". Yes, I planned my outfits (nothing but polo shirts and nice shorts/jean skirts), yes I looked put together, and yes I made an effort. And I felt GREAT!!

Page 80 and counting, almost there ;)

  17. 01 Cobra: Keeping your spreadsheets saves lots of time. It's at least a starting point. All CCFs who take the time to list all outfit components would benefit from your suggestion:cool:.

All of my spreadsheets are in the scrapbook for each cruise. It's fun to look at what was worn on Cruise #1 that still makes the cut:).

There's always been a couple new cruise-worthy items that get added and a few pieces that have been worn many times and get relinquished to the summer wardrobe.

So do you only go into your cruise closet when you're packing for cruises (or vacations??). It's not a mix and match with your summer wardrobe when the weather is warm enough??

  18. At 10 AM today, the Cruise Room was officially opened. It took an hour to move items from the bedroom down the hall. (Not everything is in the CR.) With steel drum music playing, I began organizing tops and jewelry and by noon had put together 2 outfits.

Here are the photos for Step 1 - laying out tops, jewelry, shoes from 2 different angles:

The Process will continue for a couple more hours and part of the day tomorrow. After preliminary outfits are chosen, the rejected items go back.

    Next week will be Try-Ons.

I've been reading all day as I'm home with my sick DS :( Can I just say how awesome this thread is and so full of great info!! Thanks Indiana71 for starting the thread (and all of your great pictures!!) and thanks to everyone else for all of your tips. I'm starting a notebook so I don't forget anything when I go to start packing.

We're heading out on the Liberty of the Seas next month!! I'm so excited as it's our first cruise since our honeymoon 13 years ago, and DS's first cruise!!

I'm a huge planner and we're trying to keep our luggage to a minimum as we're flying to Ft Lauderdale. Lots of great ideas - keep 'em coming :)
