Had 1400 on Liberty sister ship to Freedom. Same cabin ad 1700 just reversed. Great cabin does have a pole but did not bother us because the cabin is big. Great large balcony. A lot a pictures online.

I would love to do that.

And I still think mom is a moron. Not because she's a woman (so am I), but because she's a moron.
This made me LOL.

I'm on this cruise! I have done two other Thanksgiving cruises and as others say they offer turkey for dinner. The best part is beginning Christmas decorations.
-
I'm following this thread closely because like you, I've always had great comfortable beds. (Feedom was just find in April, so I assume replacements were made after then?
Yes, they were switching them over during the Thanksgiving cruise. Ours was firm, but still received a topper, after being told they were discontinuing them. My SIL's was rock hard.
-
We were on. Freedom over Thanksgiving and they were replacing the mattresses when we boarded. When I went to our room they were putting the new mattress on the bed. I asked for a egg crate but they said they could not longer use them. I was fine with that and the new mattress was definitely firm. I then left a 20 for my steward. My sister -in-law'so mattress in her room was like a rock. She asked her steward for the egg crate and same story, was told no more. She went to guest services and asked for something to be done. Again same story, no more egg crates. However, theven next day she received an egg crate. My mattress was firm but no where near as bad as my sister-in-law's. Funny thing is I had an egg crate the next day !
Everyone was very nice when they were explaining the new "policy" and did work with us. I am sure those crates are not the cleanest, but then don't get rock hard mattresses.
The Verdict on the balconies:
In order to explain our verdict, I will share some comparisons:
Measurements of balconies (roughly, using DH's shoes)
7408 and 7708 = about 196 square feet
1400 and 1700 = about 175 square feet
Inside measurements:
7408 and 7708 = (standard for E1)
1400 and 1700 = about the size of a junior suite, but with regular bathroom
Having experienced both of these, the E1's win with flying colors (7408 and 7708), and here are the reasons we came to that verdict:
1. Although the surface of the balconies are very similar, the corner of 1700 and 1400 is very crammed, as the roof slants down with a sharp angle. This really limits the useable area. (DH is 6'4")
You can see it pretty clearly in this picture:

2. Most days, 1700 was too hot to use in port, especially when no breeze came from the aft of the ship. There is no draft that can cut through, like there is on 7408 and 7708 (as it has the large opening to the side).
Opening seen clearly in this picture:

3. We spend a lot of time on the balcony itself, and therefore do not mind the smaller rooms. Our cabin hacks (coming up shortly) make up for the decreased storage.
4. The view from 7408 and 7708 encompass a lot more of the side of the ship, whereas the view from 1700 is more confined to the aft of the ship.
5. We like climbing stairs! There was only one flight of stairs up to the Windjammer, and we prefer deck 7 for the additional exercise before breakfast :D (and to avoid climbing 7 flights of stairs after dinner  )

I agree completely with your comparison. We had 1400 on Liberty two years ago and absolutely loved the room and the balcony. We were also on this cruise with you this Thanksgiving and had room 7408. The room size was fine, but that balcony can not be beat! I also spend a lot of time on the balcony and even hung our hammock. I am spoiled now by both of these cabins. -
No problem, I just saved it to my computer and rotated it! At least it looks like there is more seating now, last week was very crowed with the reduced seating. Did not like that, but had no impact on a wonderful cruise.

Love your pictures of 7408 balcony! Now I just have to crop my group in there (JK). I will take the real photos when we have that cabin on the Thanksgiving cruise!
-
Thank you for your review! It is really getting me in the mood for my cruise on Indy's sister ship the Freedom. Your pictures are gorgeous.

I vote for keeping quite. My surprise wasn't a cruise but our engagement. I figured out his proposal plan but acted surprised and 20 years later he has no idea I knew. He got his perfect proposal and I really was just as excited! When he finally does tell you trust me you won't have to act surprised, you will finally be able to show your excitement.

Thank you, I love mojito's.

I miss the Liberty! Thanks for the video! What was that green drink by the pool it looked really good?
-
The family promenade is set up differently than a family balcony. It is actually larger. You can Google and find pics. I will see if I can find pics 9 my friends cabin.
-
Very disappointed that the staterooms are not updated. Besides the R Bar that was the only thing I cared about. O'well I will still have fun come November.
-
I am living through your review. We were on her last year at this time and I am going through withdrawals! Love your photos. We will be on the Freedom for Thanksgiving, but that's not until 2015.
-
Lol I did the same thing.
-
Yes!!!!
-
We were on LOS Nov of 2013 and in 1400 which is a D1. We had lounge chairs.
-
Yes you can all sit together! We had a party of 18 with MTD. We did have two seprate tables, but they were next to each other. You will first have to link all your reservations together and it helped that we made reservations at the same time every night. Also I sent an email to the head of dining requesting that we stay together. She was very nice and forwarded the request to the ship and they were ready for us. It work out great.
-
We had 1400, never hear a sound! GREAT cabin.

My son is 6 ft 240 lb and my daughter 5 ft shared the couch and they were fine. I will try to upload a photo.

We packed the ponchos ( really does take much space) and they we a life saver. It pored for about on hour on an excursion we were fine. The poor people that didn't have them got drenched. One guy ruined his very expensive camera. !
