  1. Buyer beware. If he's wanting to buy "cuban's " at any of those ports, chances are he's not very familiar with authentic Cuban cigars. I simply say this because most who smoke Cuban's know where to purchase them from regarded distributors around the world. 99% chance he will be purchasing an overpriced, poorly kept fake unless he absolutely knows how to identify authentic cubans from "tourist" cubans. I've been smoking Cubans since the mid 90's and even today, i still have issues picking out authentic Cuban's unless i'm purchasing them directly from one of my verified sources and quite honestly, there are only a very few that i smoke. most are sub-par these days particularly with the embargo being lifted causing an increase in every Joe on the block selling mass produced cuban's now. No disrespect intended, he just needs to know the position he's putting himself in. He'd be better off bringing some favorites from home or as DHADEN mentioned above, a Fuente, Ashton VSG or Tatuaje is hard to beat in my book. buying from a local shop will cost less, cigars will be maintained much better and will certainly enhance the overall enjoyment of it.

  2. no different than other cruise lines offering "free" drink packages. you pay for it one way or the other. If the price is right to YOU, than buy it regardless of marketing or buzz-words that lured you in. That's the beauty of capitalism, no one is forcing you to buy anything. In this day and age, with all of the technology we have available to us at the blink of an eye, any customer who hasn't done his due diligence on a major purchase has no excuse for complaining.

  3. my wife is deathly afraid of flying and to add salt to the wound of that, she's also clostrophobic and is prone to panic attacks but i knew that going into and love her regardless. that being said, we love to cruise because it allows us to go to multiple ports that we would almost assuredly never make it to without cruising. Pair that up with the value you get from cruising, in my opinion, it's a great way to vacation!

  4. I don't know, but I feel like I am in a tiny, tiny minority of beer drinkers who are not into the IPA craze.

I agree as well. While I'll drink IPA's if there are no other options, my heart lies with stouts, porters, belgians and bocks. Any of the ships carry Spaten by chance?

  5. I can't speak for things down south near Houston but just know if you go through the Dallas area, gas stations are running out of gas by the minute. I I would expect by this afternoon or tomorrow, it will be very slim pickens. Heck i'm driving from Dallas down to Austin for the weekend and have some general concern as to being able to find gas for my return trip. Brother in law lives down there and says the "panic" from DFW area is hitting down there as well. skyrocketing prices at near empty gas stations. good luck!

  6. sorry to hijack but just curious, i booked in May for a '19 cruise. now well beyond my 60 day window, just this week i was able to get this switched over to a TA. She was able to do a work-around and get everything switched over. When i asked her about this, she told me she has someone at RCI that she works this through. Everything has been finalized and I've confirmed the switchover for myself and the other 2 bookings who are going with us. Nothing has changed in our reservations other than it now shows that the TA is in control on RCI's website. Have i risked anything doing this? The agency has rave reviews for their service, in part i'm sure because of this. thoughts?

  7. Each line has a policy on their web site. Look it up.
With all that said, why not avoid the pre- cruise stress of worrying about " what can I do" and the hassle of packing and lugging contraband onboard, not to mention the time to address an embarrassing situation and time away from your vacation, when you can simply buy a glass or bottle of wine in board.

There's nothing "contraband" or embarrassing about bringing wine on board...because RCI allows it. Look it up. (see what i did there)

Virtually every post made on here could be solved with a "look it up" answer but sort of defeats the purpose of the boards don't ya think?

    Welcome to Cruise Critic!

  8. We sailed on the Adventure of the Seas on July 22. Purchased 2 bottles of wine at the port store. Took them both to the MDR over the course of the week and we were not charged the surcharge.

i believe the corkage fee is only for personal wine brought on board at the time of embarkation. Any wine purchased on the ship shouldn't have the fee assessed.

  9. there should actually be a small couch and a smaller loveseat type chain in the window. We had one on our first cruise on the Mariner and enjoyed the people watching. room didn't really feel that small compared to some of our past balcony rooms. would be a tough call on a 9 day cruise. I agree with what someone else said previously, take the promenade and $1,000 savings now and watch for any further reductions on balconies that might come up.

  10. Thanks out to the OP. Interesting perspective on things. I've always loved both cruising as well as AI's however my wife is deathly afraid of flying ( and suffers panic attacks) so Port Galveston is a minimal drive for us from Dallas so we choose to cruise. that being said, we have our 10th anniversary coming up in a few years and have already started talking about the possibility of flying to Florida to cruise on an Oasis class ship. will most likely have to take a short test flight somewhere to see how that goes. If goes great, the possibilities are endless. if not, i married her knowing what vacation challenges we would have so more cruising for us! Either way i'm a winner!

  11. I signed up under the same pretense and have earned both the 10,000 as well as the 7,500 for the first $1,000 charged. I just checked and the funny thing is i can't find anything on my statements which detail the amounts earned during that period. only a blurb at the end of my stmnt that says X amount earned during this period. weird. but none the less, i wanted to let you know that it was a promotion at some point but i can't seem to find anything on it now. I would keep pressing management at C&A to see if they can help. I wouldn't expect to get anywhere with BOA. Hope you are able to get it squared away.
