  1. We stayed here in April. It is a simple and clean motel. We didn't eat in the restaurant. The parking is the greatest attraction to this motel! The price of the room includes 14 nights parking. They charge $7 per night over the 14. As was previously mentioned, make sure you fill out the parking documents correctly. While our car was parked outside the whole time, it was there and without incidents when we returned.

The shuttle to SFO is great. We needed to be there at 4 am, and were picked up at our room at 3:20, right on time, and we were not the only ones on the shuttle.

I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!:)

  2. Really excited. Thanks for your good wishes Brought the wide angle lens so I promise some good photos

We were on the Panama Canal cruise that debarked in SF on May 17. I was hoping to see pictures of the "new" Regatta. Can we expect to see pictures of the refurbishment?

  3. A first........We were booked on an 18 Day Panama Canal Cruise in a Veranda cabin. Yesterday we received an offer from Oceania to downgrade to a OV for $2200. We are elite status on four different lines and have never had or even heard of this. We declined given that a balcony in the Canal has always been a highlight. Well, today we got an upgrade offer to a concierge veranda for almost nothing. Needless to say we took it and got upgraded to a really great cabin. All I can figure is that they needed a block of cabins. We are really looking forward to great cruise on a recently refurbished ship.

We did the Panama Canal in May, our first on Oceania. We were offered 2 downgrades prior to sailing, from Concierge to Cat D. Offered $4,000 back. A few days prior we were offered $6,000 to downgrade. We declined both times. Cabins are small enough as is. If it had been 7 days instead of 16, we might have considered it.

  4. We just returned from our cruise which began in Miami. We stayed at the Hampton Inn, and loved it! Very nice hotel in the middle of everything, and as mentioned, it offers free breakfast, which was great. The offer a shuttle to the cruise port, for only $8 per person. You just have to book it at check in the night before. You won't be sorry if you choose this hotel.:)

  5. I did check there and the rate was over $200 even with my corporate discount!! And no complimentary breakfast. Just didn't seem worth it to just get on the other side of the freeway. I'll probably check rates on both places as time goes on and if it gets better, we'll consider swapping.

There's also a Best Western next to the HIE. Also, down the 5 south of MM, there are quite a few hotels. Quality Inn Suites, Marriott and Hampton Inn. Only about 3 miles from MM. They are on the west side of the freeway.

Also, don't worry about traffic noise. The HIE is not right up against the freeway. Hope you enjoy your stay. The Santa Clarita valley is a great place.

  6. We will be visiting Magic Mountain the day before our Baja cruise from Long Beach. I've been checking into some hotels and I think our short list is the Holiday Inn Express right across the street and the Comfort Suites a couple miles down the road. Does anyone have any thoughts on why one may be a better choice than the other for 2 adults and 2 teens?

We live about 3 miles south of Magic Mountain. The HIE will be a perfect place to stay. There's a Denny's right next door. HIE is right on the east side of the freeway (I-5). On the same side of the freeway as MM, the west side, are a Red Lobster and a El Torito.

Can I assume your your cruise leaves on a weekend? I took a trip to San Pedro, on a weekday, to visit the USS Iowa, down the 5, to the 405, to the 110, to the pier, and it took me about 90 minutes. Had more than 2 in the car, so we could use the carpool lanes, and it was rush hour. Left at 8:30, and got there at 10:00. I'm going to guess about an hour, assuming no accidents.

  7. OP: Have you had any luck with this? We are also driving up to SF from SoCal for a cruise in May. Seems the best I can find is the Holiday Inn Express Airport South. It includes 14 days parking. My concern is transportation to the ship. We're considering a rental car, but the one-way drop off fees are very expensive.

What we're going to do is drive from socal to SF. We're staying at a Best Western near SFO. It gives us 14 days of parking, with $7 per extra day. We're flying to MIA, and then cruising through the Panama Canal, back to San Francisco. We're going to hire a limo to pick us up at Pier 35, and take us back to the Best Western.

  8. Good Point, and my MIL was in a travel wheelchair on two of the R ships and there are a number of sills and ledges between the rooms which one might not notice while walking, but which would make using a scooter very difficult.

    Hi JimandStan,

We are new to Oceania. You seem to be veterans. So, please allow me to ask you a question. We have a concierge cabin, 216 sq ft. I just spoke with Special Needs at Sea. They are a rental company dealing with cruise ships. They told me that the chair and battery can be taken apart so that the scooter can be stored in the cabin. So, from your knowledge, do you think this would be manageable? Thanks for your opinion.

  9. Did you advise Oceania you are bringing a scooter??

I am surprised they did not tell you that the cabin would not be suitable to store your scooter inside the cabin & as pointed out it is a safety hazard to park it in the hallway

    Hello LHT28,

Haven't notified Oceania yet because I haven't decided to do this. From all of the very useful information I'm getting, I think I will have to go with a Plan B. Just don't know what Plan B is yet.

  10. I have another question. This time regarding using a scooter. We're on the Regatta. We have a Concierge cabin. We don't have a handicap access cabin. My question is does anyone happen to know is there would be room between the end of the bed and the wall that I could maneuver the scooter to the "living area" of the cabin. If not, where could we store it while in the cabin? Thanks for any information you might be able to share.

  11. Read on the Oceania website, and here, too, I believe, that athletic shoes are not permitted in the dining rooms. My wife has mobility issues, and it is safer to wear athletic shoes. It prevents slipping and sliding. Anyone have the 411 on this? Will she be asked to leave the dining room?

    Thanks.

  12. We are taking a Panama Canal cruise from Miami to SF in May, 2014. We live in southern California. We'll be driving to the bay area, flying to Miami and returning to SF. We'd like to be able to stay in a hotel close to the pier, park the car, (not in the pier parking area), so we can get the car after the cruise and drive home.

My question, after not finding my answer after searching, are there hotels near the pier that have a Stay and Park option.

Would appreciate hearing about suggestions to my question. Right now we have a reservation at a Best Western near SFO, which has parking. I'm concerned about getting back to the car after getting off the ship.

    Thanks for the help.:)

  13. Too bad. We are making our first Oceania cruise through the Panama Canal on May 1, on the Regatta. Was hoping to see the improvements, but "missed it by that much":p. Still looking forward to the sailing. Heard some great things about her.:)
