  1. Thay have a luggage store room next to reception. They were a bit sneaky with us. We arrived by hire car about 1pm (I think check in is 3pm). Plan was to drop the luggage in our room and then take the car to EWR to de hire, then use the Airtrain and hotel shuttle to get back. That part of the plan worked fine, but when we checked in they made no mention of a $50 early check in fee...until we checked out 2 days later! Woman on the desk said she mentioned it...I said you didn't...after a bit of an argument I thought I really could not be bothered arguing about $50 on a 4 week holiday and paid it under duress!!

Yikes. Thanks for the info. :D:D

  2. I have been on 16 cruises with RCI, not once have the beds been accurate at time of boarding despite being asked at time of booking. It's like what's the point of asking if they're not going to pass along the information anyway?

I also understand when others say they feel bad having the steward move them apart. It's like it's not enough they put new sheets on a queen sized bed and now they have to make up two additional twin beds. They always do it with no problem, I just hate thinking they have to do extra work. They already do so much!

  3. I would rather tag my own bags. I care much more than the porters do. The porter will have all his clothing if my luggage is misplaced, but I will not have mine. I will not know which porter mishandled my bag nor will the porter's boss, so no repercussions. Even properly tagged bags have gone to the wrong stateroom or even on the wrong ship. So imagine how easy it would be for a bag to go on the wrong room or wrong ship if a careless porter uses the wrong tag or writes illegibly. You do it your way...I'll do it mine....Have a great cruise.

    Well said!

  4. Singing Waiters and Napkin Twirling

Just because I feel I have to include it on every review .... ;)

Just like any other ship I've been on the past few years, cleanliness was stressed by dining room staff and even the captain in one of his announcements. Yet, it still happens ... passengers (spurred sometimes by crew) twirling their napkins in the air in the dining room, polluting the general area with bread crumbs, saliva, and miscellaneous food particles. I don't like it and try to get done with dinner before the dancing starts .... which I also hate on its own merits.

The wait staff works hard. They have a lot of people to take care of. I do not appreciate the occasional dinner show on two fronts. First of all, I don't think that the hard working service staff should be forced to dance for me. It seems demeaning to me. Secondly, I dislike that service has to halt while the dancing takes place. If I'm waiting for dessert and/or coffee, I'd rather the staff serve me and go about their business, not rush like mad to get things done before the show, then rush like mad to catch up after. I know this may not be a common or popular view, but it's how I feel.

    AMEN!!!

I thought I was the only one that felt this way!

  5. Away from series/mystery authors, "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time" (lower case part of the title) by Mark Haddon thrusts one into a world of thought experienced by an austistic child. Don't hesitate to consider it...in fact forget the description....just read a page or two.

I second this, I read it a couple of months ago and I thought it was terrific. It's a different style of writing.
