  1. To clarify, when standing on the balcony of deck seven near the life boat cover, yes, you can still see water. However for example, while at port in Nassau, standing on my balcony, I could not see the dock we were next to, nor the bottom 5 to 6 decks of the ship docked next to us. So no people watching before sail away.

When people complain of not being able to see "straight down" to the water on a Radiance class ship, they mean this cover makes it so you can't see what's around the ship for a good 20-30 feet or more. No watching the harbor master pilot the boat out of port in St. Thomas, for example. It's the equivalent of being on a low floor of a hotel and looking out over the roof of other parts of the building - not the end of the world, but it's not as nice as looking straight out at the grounds or pool of the hotel complex.

On the AOS and other ships we have been on, there is a definite sense of "I am standing out on a balcony in the middle of the ocean". It is kind of hard to lose yourself to that feeling when there is a 15 foot overhang between you and the sea.

  2. Our cabin on our last cruise on the Jewel was obstructed but, at that time, it was not designated on the deck layout. We looked at the top of the cover of the lifeboats on the deck below. We hated it and felt ripped off. Cabin number was 7622. Loved the ship; hated the view.

We felt the same way, but as Wrona said that is not considered an obstruction. I would not book another balcony cabin on the JOS unless it were on the hump.

  3.

See you are from Marion, OH. DH was born in Marysville. I'm from Richwood. We were both born at Marion Hospital in 1947, long before it was known as Marion General Hospital.:D

I take hard candies as well as chocolate bars -- but we get the biggest smiles from the chocolate candy since the crew knows it's hard to transport it from home to ship.

I watch out for Hershey's special kisses prior to a cruise, i.e., Hershey's produces mint flavored chips around St. Pat's day, cherry flavored chips around Valentine's Day, etc.

Kit Kat bars seem to be the favorite of crew on all the ship's we sailed over the past few years.

Both my parents are from Marion, & my mom and grandma still live there now. Small world!

  4. If you have six kids, you've already slept with each other enough, lol.

:D I sprayed my monitor when I read that. Thanks for the laugh!

I am such a "girly-girl" stuck in a house full of sticky boys!!

I only share the house with one sticky boy - I shudder at the thought of multiple miniatures running around. Pee and dirty socks and crumbs EVERYWHERE! :D I'm a boy rut myself. I've got two godsons, good friends just had a son....the next boy born is going to find himself wearing a lot of gorgeous little girl outfits. I'm getting impatient!
