  1. Thanks mking! We did not dance with drink in hand, but Mrs SD shivered along back onboard along with the others :)

I have not seen the daily specials on OSH yet to notate any PR or Lamb. I will check when I am by there as we are in that area all the time.

Also, I wonder does BA have azipods? For some reason I remember hearing they had straight line turbine propeller’s but I would not bet a rusty penny on my memory. If there are any issues with them, no one else is mentioning it, hope I did not start a false news rumor ;)

  2. Why should he buy a spa pass?A ship this size should have at least three big pools. There is no deck around the pool area. What were they thinking when they designed this ship.Is there anybody that has been on the Breakaway thinks one pool is adequate?

"There is no deck around the pool area What were they thinking when they designed this ship"

All Ncl was trying to do was to solve the chair hog problem

no deck no place to put chair so no chair hog , problem solved

  3. Sorry it's been a while. If I wanted to do a few specialty dining dinners what is the process for booking. Can I make reservations through website ahead of time and then buy the package when I get to the ship and be refunded for prepaid meals?

  4. +1 for you. Thank you for being competent. I knew change was coming i predicted the itinerary. But how do you call this new one comparable to the old one. Miss 3 ports and those fees are not refunded to you. Corporate said no compensation at all for any Altered sailings

Now im waiting to see the price when they re list it online that will be a huge slap in thr face if its significantly lower and worse if they wont let you rebook and price save

I don't recall in the notice of itinary change that no compensation will be given for missed port . What you have heard is earsay from one pax that claim his pcc said so . to my knowledge Corporate never said no compensation at all .

  5. We (@TrueNorth74) are booked on the Breakaway February 2 for 14 days. Right now we have a mid-ship balcony. We're going to upgrade to a Haven (we've had a horrible 2017 and want to treat ourselves to start off 2018). It's a big expense for us so I want to try to make the right decision. (Our last cruise in December 2016 was awful - so many things went wrong we thought we were on Punkd! or Candid Camera!)

We think we're going for an Aft Penthouse Suite. Our options are 9316 (port), 12904 (stbd), 13302 (port) and 14272 (port). Thoughts - would you prefer one over the others?

Our other consideration is a Haven Spa Suite - but I'm not big into heat and I don't think my husband would enjoy the spa much (he tried it on another ship a few years ago). I also have allergies to lilac, lavendar, wool and vanilla.

We had a forward suite gifted to us by the fairy about seven years ago - but the weather was most uncooperative. We like having dinner in our suite and lounging on the balcony. Does anyone know if I can use the dining credits to dine in our room? The showers I have seen in the video are pretty exciting. Neither of us drink alcohol or coffee.

What side of the ship do we need to be on to see Lady Liberty as we leave? Any other considerations?

I super appreciate any help/insight/opinions you can provide!

We were n 13302 last May Great room but has a small balcony can hear music at night from h20 but not an issue with door close, long way to the haven , My choice would be 9316 great room and has a very large balcony and is close to the action. we are going in Jan 18 in a haven spa suites ,

best location for Lady Liberty is the haven private sun deck , you will get an invitation for a Champagne sail-away from the concierge.

Jan 5th was also chaged No bonaire and no St Kitts but we have an ovenight in Aruba and we stop in Barbados

  8. Ok yes I know there is a trillion of threads on the subjet. What I want is the true status of the Islands after Hurricane Irma and Maria . There are reports in Puerto rico people are dying no power no food but cruise line are starting to homeport in November from old San Juan, There are reports on Usa Today the virgin islands could be back in business as soon as October 15th, St Mateen could be back on line as soon as Nov 11th.

My question is What is the status of the Caribbean (East & South)?

  9. I went on a cruise this July with my mom and while onboard they did their CruiseNext credit pitch. We decided to take advantage and each put down $500... they left out telling us the part where you can only apply 1 $250 credit per room otherwise we would have never done this because it makes no sense. We were under the impression that we were each putting down a $500 deposit for our next cruise fare and thus almost paying half advance. We just found this 1 credit per room rule out when we booked our next cruise and tried to apply our credits. Has anyone had a similar experience and/or successfully fought NCL on this? Obviously looking now, it's in the fine print, I just think it's deceptive that they don't tell you this outright. I know our chances of fighting them on it are slim but I figure it's worth a shot, right?

Cruise next certificate have alway been 1 per booking sometime they have a promo on select cruise you can use 2 certificate. Ncl has done nothing wrong , it's clearly written on the website . If I were you I would watch when they have the next promo and apply both certificate.

check this site they have the promo until October 15th https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/cruisenext

  10. Wait. We are booked on Gem out of New Orleans December 2018. Does that mean we lost our booking?

If you are currently booked on Gem, your reservation will be protected and automatically transferred to Breakaway. Reservations are still open for these dates (as Gem but this will be changed by October 24). Itineraries should remain the same.

  11. I booked a cabin on the Escape for a cruise in January. I have a confirmation from NCL with my cabin number on it. I was just browsing the price on a different web site, when I noticed that my cabin number was available.

I called NCL first thing this morning to ask what is going on, and my room is now belonging to different people. WTH?

All they could do was to give me a different room, and tell me that it was a computer error.

I'm not too happy right now... grrr

  12. How is NCL allowed to still advertise cruises for Eastern and Southern Caribbean when they know they will not be going to those ports? They are still advertising Eastern and Southern Cruises for October, November, December of this year, and January and February of next year. I know they can change itineraries, but when they know definitely they are not going to certain ports ahead of time, why are they still advertising for those cruises?

how can they change the itinary when you get report from the media that St Marteen is opening soon ( Nov 11th)

    check this thread https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2549159

  13. Looking at the cabin size of mini-suites on Escape and most are 251 total with 44 balcony (leaving a cabin size of 207). But the aft facing ones are 513 total with balcony of 210 (cabin of 303). Wondering if anyone knows where the extra interior space is (bathroom, seating area, storage?). Appreciate any help.

10th floor both aft mini suites are disabled suites 10318,10918 both have larger bathroom

    check this video

these are the only 2 aft mini suites

  14. I for one don't really care that much as to what the itinerary is changed to, and fully understand that ports even when not damaged from hurricanes or local storms or WHATEVER can and are changed for lots of reasons.

It has happened to us over the past 17+ years with not one complaint from my wife or me.

But as I stated in my post: "At least put a GIANT DISCLAIMER on all their ads for cruises with itineraries that continue to include ANY of the islands that have been severely damaged."

I am sure YOU and most experienced cruisers are aware of the small print port cancellation information on your cruise contract, BUT NOT EVERYONE MAY BE AS EXPERIENCED AS YOU and letting people know that when they plunk down 4-5 thousand or more on a product they may not get exactly what they ordered, FOR WHAT EVER REASON..

A SIMPLE DISCLAIMER telling people ahead of time OF POSSIBLE AND UNAVOIDABLE CHANGES to any of the NINE Caribbean cruises scheduled for this coming JANUARY would just be good business practice.

No one is implying they use your words,"we have no idea where we are stopping" but there are ways of giving people a sensible warning especially if the cruises under question are only 90 days from departure.

No fortune teller needed to see that in the "foreseeable future" there are very high odds that some of the ports on those 9 cruises will be changed.

    bosco

they do have a simple disclaimer on their website all you have to do is search for it . ps it's in the bottom left corner /NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE LEGAL NOTICE

    https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/freestyle-cruise/legal-notice

  15. Not necessarily. They can easily be accommodated in a 12 - 14 day eastern cruise.

What OP is really saying is that NCL is not going to take away the eastern ports that are not damaged but that they are going to add some other ports. The question is really where can they get those ports, anf that opens up anyting from the western end of Cuba and eastward.

There is 8 other ports available in Southern Caribbean

You have 1- Samana , Santo Domingo in Domicain (East caribbean)

2-Basseterre St-Kitts. Only minor Damages reopened on Sept 17

    3- Fort de France Martinique

    4- St georges Grenadas

5- the ABC islands Aruba, Bonaire and Curacua

6- San Juan could be open in January 2018 It's an evening stop (3.00pm to 10.00pm)

of course there is St-Lucia ,Barbados and st-Johns Antigua (that should be open in January) those are already on the schedule

There is still lots of ports available in Southern Caribbean

I'm not worried all I know in January 2018 I will be in Southen Caribbean

  16. http://cruisejamaica.com/cruise-ship-arrival-schedule/

The Jamaica cruise ship calendar shows the Breakaway in Ocho Rios in December and January. Maybe more. I didn't check every month. As PelicanBill mentioned, I believe it's in Cayman, too. It will be interesting to see what the itinerary really looks like when it's released.

the Breakaway is scheduled for western carribean on Jan 19 to february 2 this one is not affected by hurrican Irma and Maria

  17. I was under the impression you could cancel a cruise before final payment was made with no penalty. Reading the NCL website, I now see that if your cruise is within 119-90 days out, there is a 25% penalty, and 89-56 days out, there is a 50% penalty, and so on. I was waiting until final payment to see how the itineraries change for Southern Caribbean (my final payment is due October 7th), thinking there would be no penalty if I decide to cancel before that. Now, as I read it, I will have to pay a 25% penalty. I know it's sad that there are so many people that have lost so much in the Caribbean, but I think it's also upsetting not to know where a Cruise is going, and that people that have saved for a long time (some, for years) to go on a special cruise will lose a lot of money to cancel, or go on a Cruise they really do not want to go on. Has anyone cancelled after 120 days because of changes in itineraries recently, and did you have to pay a penalty?

If you look at the chart https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/about/cancellation-fee-schedule Cancellation Schedule for Booking Made on or After March 30,2017

You will notice there is 3 sections 1- The Haven Suites, Suites, Garden Villas and Holiday Sailings**

    2- 1-6 Days

    3- 7 days or more

you have to look at #3 7days or more for your cruise

You have until October 7th 90 days before cruise to cancel without penalty

We are on the same cruise I think it's to early to know which island that are going to be cancelled there is still 5 ports are are not damaged they could change some port and add other port like Martinique , St Kitts and Grenada for example

Betsy51556 from our roll call quotes

Just got off the Breakaway today and they seam to think islands will be up and running, I will believe when I see it but NCL is helping them get things fixed up!
