Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I am glad that Royal Caribbean compensated you and your wife (and hopefully the other affected passengers) for the inconveniences you experienced. How long did it take for maintenance to repair the problem - because the water would have had to be shut off? I hope it was only a few hours.
  2. Does anyone currently on the 12-day cruise out of Baltimore know anything about the flooding of cabins on deck 7 caused by a broken hot water pipe? My husband and I (and my sister and brother-in-law) were on the 8-day cruise (on Vision) just prior to this one. We were on deck 7 - and there was an ongoing problem with water coming from the ceiling in the hallway - just past midship location. Water was leaking from the ceiling, with carpeting completely soaked. The crew was doing all they could to fix the problem and dry out the carpeting. Water was shut off for several hours - which also included Cafe Latitudes. Someone posted photos on a certain social media site - and mentioned decks 7 and 8. However, they have not indicated which area of the ship. Photos of one of the cabins showed a pretty soaked carpet area with towels on the floor (and a maintenance worker vacuuming up water). Another photo showed water raining down from the ceiling in the hall. Yet another photo showed several inches of water in the hallway. I hope these passengers affected by this will be compensated for this disruption. I doubt that any of them can be moved - since the cruise was fully booked.
  3. My husband and I booked the eight-night cruise on the Vision of the Seas (out of Baltimore), departing on November 24th. This will be our first cruise since the pandemic. While scrolling through "need to know" and "before you cruise" information on the app, I found information related to COVID test results. It says, "Bring your test results" - all guests must provide proof of a negative SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) test before boarding. Is this something Royal Caribbean has reinstituted or is this outdated information? What have recent cruisers experienced?
  4. Thank you so much for the recap of your trip - we have decided to book this cruise. I am now looking for several cruises for 2024 and the spring of 2025. We have already booked an Alaska cruise for early June 2024 (our 3rd Alaska cruise).
  5. The Queen Mary 2. It would be our first Cunard cruise - we have been on numerous cruises; however, we like the idea of sailing from either New York or Boston - avoiding flights to and from Europe.
  6. My husband and I were thinking of booking the Norway & Northern Lights 26-night cruise from New York, departing on October 25, 2025. We would greatly appreciate comments and insight on this itinerary - especially from those who have sailed this itinerary in the past.
  7. Thanks Mittens101 for asking those questions - I am very interested in other people's insights on this topic. Are there any recent "bid winners" who could share their experiences with the bidding process and "how long before they learned their bids were accepted"? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Thank you so much for the advice. I will look right now.
  9. I know this topic has been discussed many times, but please help. I would like advice on buying travel insurance. We booked an Alaskan cruise for next May (Voyage of the Glaciers (Southbound Whittier to Vancouver). I am purchasing the Princess Platinum coverage (at the standard rate because we are Platinum members) - because of the "cancel for any reason" benefit. However, I find the emergency medical ($20,000 max) and sickness ($20,000 max) very limited. My husband and I have Medicare and secondary supplemental plans. Medicare doesn't cover us in Canada and our supplemental insurance pays only 80% up to a lifetime maximum of $80,000 for emergency medical outside the US). 1) Should I buy an additional trip insurance plan from (for example) AIG, Nationwide, or Allianz - or should I just purchase a medical insurance plan like GeoBlue which provides more generous medical coverage for single trips (but provides fewer other coverage benefits)? Also, I do have a yearly emergency transportation/evacuation membership through MedJet. Or should I even bother buying additional insurance for this trip since we will only be in Canada less than a day - from the ship to the airport in Vancouver? I understand that Canada is the only international country we will be visiting on this trip; however, accidents and medical events can happen. We want to be prepared. Any advice will be much appreciated.
  10. Thank you so much for the information!!! We are very excited - this will be our first cruise since the pandemic hit. We did the full transit of the Panama Canal in 2019 and absolutely loved it. So, we decided to restart our "cruise travels" with the partial transit.
  11. We will be sailing on the Ruby Princess in late January 2024 for a 10-day cruise - Cabin C752. We have never been in a cabin located in the back of the ship before and wanted to give it a try. I understand there will be vibration and noise from the rudder and "wake" noise. However, will there be any noise from Club Fusion on Deck 7? I know the club is three decks below; however, I cannot figure out what is directly above Club Fusion. When I look at the deck plans - Deck 8 and Deck 9 show white areas. Any idea what those areas are? The reason I ask: my sister-in-law will be booking an inside cabin shortly. Some of the inside cabins near cabin C752 are directly above those "white areas" on Dolphin and Emerald Decks. It will be her first cruise EVER. She doesn't have issues with motion; however, I would hate for her to hear noise from Club Fusion all evening for 10 days. Thanks for your answers!!
  12. Thank you so much Mittens101 for including us this past week!!!! Have a safe journey home.
  13. Oh my. That dessert looks scrumptious!!!!!
