i am close to unbooking our 2021 dec cruise
I am waiting until final payment date in August, which they could possibly extend another month or so. If masks are still required, then a definite cancellation, as I am unable to breathe with one on.
I believe you are on board somewhat regularly at Christmas. This past December was my first missed Christmas since I started in 2009. I missed it terribly, and sad that I may miss it again.
Regards,
Jeanne

Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" always makes me think of QM2 but that's because when Ray Rouse was the Entertainment Director it was the opening theme song for his 6 AM morning show on the in-room TV.

I would be satisfied just to get a full size shower in the QG cabins instead of that monstrous bath tub.

I sent them my thoughts regarding what a non event it really was and how preposterous these women are via “Messenger” last night. I received a response first thing this morning as follows:
Hi Jeanne,
Thank you for getting in touch. We are aware of this and rest assured we are looking into any cases and comments regarding it that we receive. The incident occurred on the 30 December. The ship experienced a temporary blackout / loss of propulsion lasting approximately 15 minutes, as a result of a technical issue. All back up systems operated as required and full propulsion was quickly restored.
Unfortunately we are not part of the Cunard Fan groups, but if these guests wish to discuss anything with us they are welcome to get in touch.
I hope despite this you had a wonderful voyage on Queen Mary 2, Christmas on board is so very special.
Thank you once again for taking the time to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Lizzy

LOL. That came up in my FB memories this morning.

Frankly, I am baffled by the fact that no one has mentioned that QM2 reeks of cigarettes on decks 2 and 3. Officers' offices, coming up from Crew Bar, Officers' quarters? I can't be the only one who notices it.

Paging Andiamo to the white courtesy phone...
I know that she generally travels solo. Maybe she'll find this thread at some point.
Hi there. I heard the page and am happy to take the call.
However, I'm afraid I won't be helpful, as my situation is different. Prior to 2009, I had a significant other, and we shared 35 cruises together, including several on QM2. Other than a few where we traveled with friends, we only took a table for two.
My first solo on Mary was in QG at a shared table. I was not used to it and did not care to repeat the arrangement. Since then, I have been in PG every Christmas at my own table. I am fiercely independent and prefer to come and go as I please. I have been very fortunate to have met many people over the years and can be quite the social butterfly, so it is not an anti-social thing.
As an aside, I already have plans to join a family for dinner this Christmas that I met (and joined two years ago); a date for tea with a solo gal who has been on many times; cocktails with other dear friends; and more than likely a beach date and a few port lunches. However, this is clearly due to being part of what has become somewhat of a 'repeaters' voyage.
Despite my own choices and experience, I can still comfortably say that I believe the OP will be accommodated very nicely at a mixed table, not only because Osman does a great job matching up people, fellow guests are for the most part warm, friendly, and inviting.

Yes, now it's turned off at midnight and I agree it's completely stupid and totally unnecessary. In the past one could not buy additional time after 10PM but one could run out the clock on whatever remaining time they had already purchased until they disembarked the ship. It could explain why the service was so bad the last evening before arriving in NY: the crush to finalize landing plans before the plug was pulled saturated the bandwidth.
We returned from the Christmas/New Year's voyage the night before scheduled, as there was a snow storm. I was quite panicky about the situation and kept in constant contact with my car service via email. Had the Internet been turned off too early, I surely would have been beside myself. I did have my phone, which would have worked during the overnight in Brooklyn, but just the same, it is disconcerting, especially when you have extra time on the counter, to lose your minutes at midnight. I hope the issue is revisited.

Well....the film is in German but amazing impressions from the remastering In Hamburg and it has just been on the German TV today - unbelievable job in 3 weeks! http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/video/2785182/Schoenheitskur-fuer-Queen-Mary-II?bc=svp;sv0
I watched the entire video right after it was posted. Probably my favorite so far.

Thank you, Jeanne. She's mending quite well but still has some negative associations with cruising given how she ended the last one (I think this may pass with time). There are still several months until final payment for Christmas so I'm remaining low key aside from occasionally reminding her that we do have a booking again for this year.
She needs a bit of surgery unrelated to last Christmas's issues so we've canceled a Paris week in June and a Transatlantic crossing that would have gotten us there. We've had little trouble finding other interesting things to do with the money so it's not as disappointing as it might seem.
Fingers crossed I see you ten months from today. Good luck with the surgery. There will always be Paris.

I'm pretty sure they hold back inventory for specific port-pair itineraries, and the allocation among the sub-itineraries is shifted over time according to yield management algorithms.
Makes sense to me P. Hope DW is doing well.
BTW, e/m exchange in Dec.

Oh dear! So sorry to hear this. I reached "Diamond" this year, so finally decided to give it a go, since it was a perk, plus an additional meal as part of a package. It was a most amazing experience. The service and timing were impeccable. I do hear you though, and feel badly that you were not able to experience what you should have, especially since the change is many months away and there was no reason for staff to slack off.

Adding that my visit to TE was lunch on the 31st of December, 2015.

Last week on QM-2 we booked a table for two at 1 pm. We were seated quickly and our orders taken with no delay. At 1.45 I said to the Head Waiter, " Would you consider it unreasonable for us not to have received our starter after 45 minutes". He replied, "Yes, I'll look into it". At 1.55 he had not returned so we left.
Role on the Verandah!

Got the card and the mug, but no book on QE.
Hi there Ben. Hope you are having a grand time, despite the fact that you did not have a pre-voyage shopping spree in NYC.
Happy New Year. Until next time,

We're on Queen Mary 2 for Christmas and New Years in the Caribbean. As is traditional onboard, we returned from Christmas Eve dinner to find gifts from Cunard waiting in our stateroom.
This year's gifts included a Wedgwood coffee cup with a Cunard "Season's Greetings" Christmas tree logo and the name of the three ships, a Christmas card signed by the Captain and several senior officers featuring the same Cunard Christmas tree logo as on the card, several postcards with a photo of the Three Queens and the title "2015 - Celebrating 175 years of Cunard" and finally, a copy of a new book The triumph of a new tradition: The Story of Cunard's 175 Years.
No signatures in the book but maybe Suite passengers received that little luxury...
I'll post a couple of photos on Saturday when we're in St Thomas.
Hi P.
No signatures in PG, but love the book. Much more than the last one.
See ya!

Yes. I have thought so. My favorite is Santa Margarita Pino Grigio. They no longer carry it, but when they did, over the years it went from $63 to about $67 a bottle. Now, on the Caribbean trips, I just pick up a few bottles in port for about $15 each and pay the corkage fee, plus the 15%. In my case, it is not necessarily about the money, but having the wine I want. I admit to being a little embarrassed bringing it in the dining room, but having something I enjoy trumps it. (At home, in NY, the range is $19.99 up to $24.99.)
However, I do believe alcohol has the highest markup, whether on land or sea.

I'm betting Winchester Ranger is (choose one or more):
(a) having too much fun to post
(b) suffering effects of yesterday's Pol Acker
© horrified by cost of internet on the QM2
(d) lost on deck 12
(e) searching for a present (for his DW) at Hermes
(f) checking on that pod situation for us...
Love this Jimmybean!

I noticed the waves on the bridge-cam. The QM2 is an ocean liner and handles it beautifully. I board when she returns to NYC and once the weather clears she will easily make up that time.
The picture is from October 2012 taken from the window next to our table on deck 2 in the Britannia dining room. The weather on the eastbound and westbound crossings was very wet with high seas.
Hi Linda.
Saw a posting on FB. The seas hit the Commodore Club windows. QM2 is a mighty lady and the adventurous seafarers must have had a blast today.

This shows more space between the desk and the bed than I have ever seen. I did read that the P suites would maximize space, but not sure how they can accomplish it in this area.

Thanks for all the responses. I enjoyed everyone of them and the variations. Good one about the pilot boat!

Cunard Vaccination Requirements

I got the same email. I noted that they did not reiterate their mask wearing requirement, so I am assuming that since it is an “update”, they did not repeat it here. I would love to be wrong.
