  1. So far, I have found the staff to be excellent/great, from my cabin steward to the Platinum/Elite lounge bar staff to the Anytime dining staff. Likewise in the buffet. Only negative experiences were with the Princess port staff in Venice and they were abysmal: rude and put us in physical danger.

Physical danger = lawsuits! Somebody in Princess "central" better be paying attention!! Glad you are safe. I did read the accessibility issues posts! I agree with you....NOT acceptable!

  2. Hi Bob and all

I was told that Princess knew that the TA would bring a hard core of experienced Princess cruisers onboard and that there was a plan to meet their higher expectations from reading peoples posts there seems to be an overall failing to meet these

As to info given out by Princess was talking to Director just today that Princess is not good about getting its facts right more often than not elite cruisers know way more about the Princess product than many staff do

Bob please post your thoughts and views others may agree or not but this is your cruise and only you can tell us about it.

Others may receive better or worse service but only by having a number of views can folks get the overall picture

    Yours Shogun

Shogun! I like the way you approach the negatives and positives. And I totally agree with your responses to Bob's experiences onboard the TA. I've been in Quality Assurance (software, but just the same) for over 25 years and we all know the famed term, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I have a response for that that says, "If you DON'T KNOW it's broke, you will make NO ATTEMPT to fix it!" My advice is similar to yours: Speak up, let your observations be known, speak to someone to get it fixed, and tip accordingly!

  3. Good evening from the Royal Princess. It’s about 2300 local time and I’m just getting ready to turn in after an evening of formal night activities. ......The martini was very good, but the bar service left something to be desired. I was sitting right next to the bar and after I had finished my martini it took almost 30 minutes for one of the bartenders to ask me if I wanted another one. Bar service on the Royal to this point is abysmal. I had a second experience in the casino earlier in the day wherein I was sitting at a slot machine for around 45 minutes with not being asked if I wanted something to drink. In addition to Crooners, I tried out the Ocean View Seafood bar. The “snack” I had was quite good and the service was acceptable.

DW and I had dinner at the Crown Grill. The food was very good. The service however was sorely lacking.

One thing I really don’t like about the CG is the way the Wheelhouse bar is set up adjacent to it. There was a piano player there who was good but the music combined with the audience participation made it very hard to enjoy a nice quiet dinner.

That’s about all for now. Some may take my comments as being rather negative. I would say however that they are honest observations about what I experienced.

Hi Bob! I have to say that your insight is absolutely enriching! I enjoy seeing honest and truthful reports about what is happening onboard!! Your comments about the SERVICE you DID NOT receive is of prime importance to me. I may end up in the brig when I board because NO ONE stands between me and my wine! There WILL be repercussions!! And I most certainly will be calling the manager on duty to resolve the issue ASAP!

As for "music/sound seep" into other areas.....this is unfortunately a design flaw! Too late to fix it now, but perhaps some sound screens to muffle somewhat, the disturbance into dining areas would help.

Keep posting, Bob. I really enjoy reading your posts! Look forward to meeting up with you one day soon!

  4. There is no longer free internet for anybody no matter which cabin you have. Nothing has changed with the allocation for Plats and Elites.

Bob: If you're going to muster, hurry back. We're coming to your cabin. So many people I have yet to meet.

Just in case anyone needs to know, I've done nothing today other than play trivia and eat. What an accomplishment.

Pia! Off this topic but....Anything change with the hair dryers onboard? I seem to remember on the inaugural sailing they were not held in high esteem. (the ones in the drawers in the desk). Any improvement? Your thoughts on the ratings/adequacy of the hair dryers now??

    Thanks!

  5. Wow, I'd be off that ship before it left for the crossing. Obviously the electrical systems are not fully functional... and I've done over 27 cruises !

Thanks for the updates and bon voyage!!

I have to admit, I'm unclear as to what some of the acronyms are. Most notably IC... Is there a list of common acronyms handy somewhere? :)

CuriousCat: Have to agree as this is the 2nd electrical glitch since launch of the Royal. Circuit breakers may be made in China or something!

mathan416: IC is the International Café located in the Piazza on deck 5 on the Royal, and many of the recently refurbished Princess ships. Great place for some wonderful food, snacks, etc. and close to Vines (the wine bar) which is where I'll be spending some time (between Crooners visits) beginning 10/29/13.

  6. When we boarded in Barcelona, the only security station was run by port security so they were not at all concerned with wine in carry-ons. We brought 7 bottles of wine on board. There is a duty free shop after security and we purchased 2 bottles of gin and carried them on as well so no worries. There is also a wine store there but it was a bit pricey. We bought our wine at a grocery store across from the Hotel Continental; 21 euros for seven bottles. We've tried 2 of them and they were both good. At those prices, we will float our way to FLL;).

    Harry and Joyce

And they will "pour" you off the ship when you arrive!! LOL! I love your description! :D

  7. Welcome aboard the Royal Princess as we begin our 30 day cruise from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale. I realize there are still some unanswered questions, and I would appreciate if you’d give me a day or two to become acclimated to this HUGE vessel.

Pia! Glad to see you back on a "live from..." Thread. I will be glued to it until I board the Maiden in FLL! Fair winds and following seas throughout your journey!
