  1. WOW :D

I have booked a Junior Suite before and did not know half of these perks existed!!!

I am taking my children on their first cruise in October on the Independence and have booked a Junior Suite as a treat (and because I need the extra C and A points to get to the next level before a cruise next year).

So we will be making the most of all these perks....which will help us earn even more perks on our future cruises

  2. Firstly I think it would flag up if you bought 3 drinks within 5 minutes of each other. Maybe I'm wrong, there is probably some one who could tell you that they did it and didn't get caught.

The way I see it is if you are sharing one package between 3 a) it's stealing! And b) cause RCI does not get full amount of money for the quantity of drinks sold then the prices of the packages will be pushed up more to compensate for people sharing.

The drinks packages are not just there to save money, most people break even value wise...or why would the cruise line offer it???? It saves time, it is convenient and also helps with budgeting.

If you are going to drink 240 more worth of drinks....buy the package. If you are not going to drink 240 more of drinks....don't buy the package!

  3. I got the upgrade for free, from inside to guarantee balcony :)

I rang Crown and Anchor and went in expecting nothing, so was not pushy or rude. I explained that cabins two categories up from mine were being sold for nealy half what I paid for an inside. Lady was lovely, went away and came back with offer of upgrade.

I don't know if this has happened because the team may be fairly new due to recent move or if I just caught a nice rep on a good day.

I know not to expect this as standard for future cruises though so I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is :)

  4. Hi

From what I understand you would not only be paying a bigger deposit, but you would also be paying a single supplement so you would be paying more for the cruise as well (may even be double, but I'm not sure however I know lots of people will correct me if I'm wrong!)

If you are Crown and Anchor members you get an extra point per night, so inside cabin to balcony you get 1 regular point and 1 extra per night. If you are junior suite or higher you get 2 regular points plus one extra, so 3 points per night (so it is not double points, but one extra per night).

    Hope that makes sense :)

  5. If they are the same price I would personally go for one you can choose rather than the guarantee. In 3weeks I will be in a guarantee cabin on the adventure for the first time. I usually like choosing my cabin, but for the upgrade I wanted it is a guarantee cabin....holding my breath to see what we get!!!

Also we are only on a 4night cruise so the risk seemed worth it as we are unlikely to be in our cabin much as we have 4 days to pack everything in. If it was longer than a week or a transatlantic I would definitely want to be choosing as I would not want to be lumped with a noisy cabin when I'm likely to be in it more.

Hope that helps you make your choice :)

  6. Hi,

I know that the price drop rules are different in the uk than the USA...hoping someone can help (and hope even more it's good news...)

In December I booked a 4 night cruise in May 2014, I paid nearly £1,200 for an inside cabin for 2 adults (gratuities included)

Just spotted prices for the same cruise as £598 for an OUTSIDE cabin :-o it is without gratuities added yet but that is still a HUGE difference in price and is the next level up of staterooms?!?!

Unfortunately I am not in a position to make last minute bookings and can understand why they drop the prices...cause £598 is better than £0 for Royal Caribbean. I have spotted a few people joining our roll call due to a "great deal".

Is there anything I can do about this???

  7. Thanks for posting :)

I was under the impression that due to your passport (or photo id) being checked when you get your Sea Pass card that you would not be IDed but had not considered that some areas can't pull up you photo. I guess some staff my assume that you could be using some one elses card.

On my last cruise I did not buy any alcohol, my partner did but had no issues. On my next cruise I will be buying the odd alcoholic drink and due to being IDed often it is great to know so I can take my driving licence with me (as I don't want to be carrying my passport about!)

  8. I am close enough to my cruise to be able to print my luggage tags too (30 days) but having lost my passport I am waiting to confirm passport number (either finding my old one before my passport office appt or the details of a new one!). Looking forward to getting everything sorted and slipping my tags onto my suitcase!!!!!

  9. Very sad to think that 2 people lost their lives just so cruise passengers can enjoy a cruise, however, as pointed out by someone else, the industry is dangerous....but that will not lesson the loss felt by the families.

Interested to hear UNV-IT's version of events, I wonder if this is something that has happened before in that same way and if so, if there are regulations regarding it.

Will be keeping my eyes open for any updates x

  10. I know this is a bit off topic, but I recently changed my texting tone to the announcement chime before the captian or others speak. Keeps me in the crusing mood all the time. I was also able to download the the card ding when you are getting on or off the ship. It brings back great memories :D

Sorry to the OP for stealing your post ;)

But can I please ask where you download those from???

    Thanks in advance

  11. Thanks for posting the menus :D

Kids are going on their first cruise in October and it is great to know that there will always be something they like, but will also be offering them the chance to look at the main menu too.

Will be careful not to mention they can have more than one of anything....or they will eat half the ships stock!!!
  12. We bought on board on our last cruise but planning to buy ahead of sailing this time. Mainly so that we know it is done and then we don't have to worry about it, plus being able to get a drink straight away with out having to organise it on board is a positive.

I agree with the OP about it is also just fun arranging bits and pieces as part of getting ready to cruise :D

I am not fussed about RC having the £48 or so for my particular drinks package, it's not really going to work that hard for me in the mean time! However if it was a longer cruise and a more expensive package, I may consider paying as close to the sail away date as possible!

Lastly, if any one is considering the soda only package, I think you can only pre order it before the cruise, I think you are not able to get the soda only package onboard, the cheapest package on offer onboard is the Replenish (with tea, coffee, OJ, non-alcoholic cocktails...etc) which is a big step up from the soda only package. May have changed since I last heard though...

  13. As far as I know you don't NEED anything, but it would possibly be good to carry a little cover letter and photo copy of one of the parent's passports just in case.

I travelled to France last year and got interrogated by the French Police because my kids surname is different from my own

By asking the question in the first place it shows that you are maybe a little nervous, in which case I would suggest doing the above, that way it would put your mind at ease. Likelyhood is that you won;t need it, but better to have it and not need it than end up being in a difficult situation where having it could help.....you would ony kick yourself afterwards!

Have you and your family looked into information bracelets or temporary tattoos? Great way of having contact details on the child in case you get separated by accident, maybe worth looking at :D

  14. Well, I have a choice, so I will have to make a decision, whether I am "stressed" or not. By the time I'm done , this is at least a 15k vacation. I'll worry if I want to, thank you very much

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Either I have completely misinterpreted your tone of this post or you are going to be an absolute gem on these boards and your first RCCL cruise

In case you missed the tone of that last sentence, I was being sarcastic!

  15. I didn't try on my recent cruise but it also may be worth asking if there is a saving in getting a serve of the alcohol separately to the non-alco drink

I would be doing this too.....ordering the mocktail and then paying for the alcohol as a shot and pouring over. It will probably not be quite as good as it being mixed, but it depends on whether taste or budget is the most important to you ;)
