  1. My mom passed and left us with the means to do one blow out vacation. It's especially needed now with my DH's recent stage 4 kidney cancer diagnosis (still praying we don't have to cancel knock wood) so no, not rich....but 7 of us travelling together gave me the justification to book the big boy....something we'll remember for all time.

  2. I am 8 years out and struggling to shed the post baby (DD is 4) weight after pregnancy but have also had this thought pass in and out of my brain since I started looking to book. If you'll be *just* entering soft food phase, make sure you DON'T push yourself. I did that and regretted it every day. for almost 8 weeks solid, I threw up about a dozen times a day just because I didn't listen to my body and ate things I had no business eating.

Let your body guide you. It will tell you when you're screwing up. Listen to it! And if you go the smoothie route, make sure you don't load up on fruits and fruit juices. You will dump like crazy and spend the rest of your cruise on the toilet. Remember, sugar affects us just like a diabetic, even natural sugars like those found in fruits, because it goes RIGHT into your system with no stomach buffer.

Take it slow, chew your food like crazy (your mouth is your blender) and don't drink while you eat. You'll do just fine and I am sure you'll have no shortage of choices when it comes to finding things to eat.

    Above all, ENJOY YOURSELF!!!

  3. I'm really hoping by the time that our cruise comes around, DD will be more receptive to trying new things. She'll be just over 4 1/2 then and right now if it's not something she's readily familiar with, she won't try it. Usually I can get her to try something if she likes the way it smells but if it's a texture she isn't expecting she'll spit it out, even if she likes the taste. So I'm really hoping a switch flips or something lol. I don't expect her to try oysters or escargot but some of the veggies and other things I'm hoping she'll give a chance.

  4. The good news  (yeah, right) is that as you approach 50 years old, the AARP organization seeks you out :p and mails you a membership card.

Actually, DH and I have been getting them since before we turned 40. There must be some erroneous information out there too because a recent medical claim was initially denied by my primary insurance carrier because they wanted to (in their words) 'make sure you're not covered by medicare'.../sigh. Time to stand out on my porch and yell at people to get off my lawn I guess. :D

  5. Yes it is!! Woohoo!!!!

Gotta have a party on our balconies!!

I was heart set on deck 12 as well not only for the balcony but also for the proximity to the kid's club. Then I saw the layout for deck 11 and decided I didn't need that huge of a balcony. Unfortunately they both sold out for the 2 months that I was looking at sailings :( lol

  6. I looked at my review from Epic (12/2012) and these were the prices from THAT cruise:

"The prices are $19.99 for the 8x10s and when we went to our binder after the 2nd night we already had over 30 pictures we wanted {gulp} - (yes, I am a SUCKER who cannot walk away from a picture of her children - it's my one big expense on a cruise)

Unlimited Package to the rescue! For $249 you can take as many pictures as you like and walk away with them ALL on disk at the end of the cruise! If you want the prints and the disk - that was higher - in the $300's

So we bought the Unlimited Package. And we made it a point to get pictures taken everywhere.

There was another package for $149 - walk away with TEN 8x10's

The disk does come with a photo release. So as soon as I got home - I sent them all to WalMart photo center."

I had not even thought about this, thank you for this post. The only other cruise I went on was with my mom and, though I wish I had some pictures now, at the time it was like last on the list of things we wanted to spend money on so we didn't even bother (although I found out recently after having been sent a box of my mom's things that she actually got an embarkation picture from the trip and it's awaiting a frame and hang even though I'm about 150 pounds heavier than I am now and hate how I look in it lol) but now that I'm a mom, I'm sure I'm going to have to have pictures of my DD and 2 SS's....I hope they still have that unlimited deal on The Gem.

  7. Which Breakaway cruise are you booking?

We're looking at October or November. It all depends on what's available when I'm actually able to book. I'm hoping October though because not only is it sooner (haha) but also the weather will be more 'tropical' than if we go in November.

I am heart-set on the s6 and would prefer either deck 12 for the same deck as the kid's area or deck 11 for the layout (hello balcony door in the bedroom!) Just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best :)

I'll be sure to join the roll call though when we do finally book and I'll probably put us on the cabin creep as well since it'll be one of the Haven aft's. :)

  8. According to other cc members, S6 cabins on decks 14 and 11 have the master room next to the balcony with the master bathroom behind it (no windows in bathroom). There is a door from the master bedroom in these cabins to the balcony.

Decks 9, 10, 12 and 13 S6 cabins all have the master bathroom by the balcony with the master bedroom behind it (no window in master bedroom).

Check on this thread - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1834773&page=8

post 154 onwards shows an S6 cabin with the bed by the balcony.

Thank you! I looked around last night but couldn't remember what thread I'd seen the pictures in. Glad you were able to track it down for the OP (and the rest of us who are also curious :))

  9. I'm a yes man. :D

Well, just don't ask me about the restaurants. :o

ugh...don't even get me started...I'm going to be lucky if I can get my husband out of the general buffet area and sit down at a table in one of the MDR's let alone the specialty restaurants...he gives new meaning to the term 'picky' when it comes to his food...if it looks remotely weird or there's even a speck of something on his plate he cannot identify, he won't eat it. So much for me experimenting with escargot and prawns! lol

Maybe I can just ask them to bring him a plain chicken breast and some french fries :P lol

  10. Question about room service to the suites. With the markedly larger size of the aft balconies, I'm sure that our group will be utilizing our room for any in room eating that we might do. We're going to have 5 people spread out over 2 cabins and I'm wondering if we can have room service for all of us delivered to just our suite? Anybody with any experience on that?

Also, does the balcony door lock? We'll be traveling with our 4 yr old daughter in the room as well and she'll be sleeping in the living room area and I want to make sure she can't open that door on her own. Also glad to hear the main room door is on the heavy side as she probably won't be able to open that on her own due to the weight.

  11. Since a lot of people are viewing this thread thanks to bear's wonderful work on that google doc, this might be an appropriate place to ask this question and maybe start to get the information together.

On another thread I was reading, there's quite a bit of interest in the room packages regarding alcohol and mixers/juices/sodas/etc that come with the different suite categories. Is there any way to add that as a part of this spreadsheet based upon actual passenger feedback regarding their specific cabin category and what they experienced that was included in their room package? I know for me personally, it's very confusing trying to figure out what suite category gets what sort of perk like this kind gets 1 bottle, this kind gets 3, this one gets champagne while this other one gets sparkling wine etc. It might also help people know whether they need to buy the soda package, the soda + juice package, etc in addition to whatever they'll be given as part of their room package.

  12. Just wait until you experience the VIP treatment that will come with that balcony!:)

Yah I'm a little beside myself in that regard...I don't know what to ask for lol. I don't want to seem like an arrogant ass but at the same time I don't want to not take advantage of what I'm paying for. Very thin line lol...will they give me half and half for my in room pod style coffee/espresso machine? lol I have to have my half n half :P

what exactly does a butler do anyway?? (and don't say 'he buts')
