  1. Hi all,

I'm on the Getaway this upcoming Sunday 1/15/17 in a mini suite (MX) and was offered an upsell on multiple suites in the haven today and submitted my bids.

Only problem is that they seem to all be sold out when making a mock booking. Is it common practice for them to do this even though they are sold out just in case of cancellations, etc?

    Thanks!

    good luck,

see you in a few days!

  2. Ear plugs cost 50 cents, or earbuds and listen to whatever music you want. It would even work for husbands snoring too :) My wife snores like a freight train so ear plugs are a way of life in my house :)

I've been on maybe 9-10 cruises and gotten a spa pass every time. Sure it is not as loud as the main pool area, but when the water jets come on, the loudness level certainly ramps up as people still want to have a conversation.

I feel for you about the loud drunk people, that is no fun for anyone though.

  3. wife and I were in Haven last July on the Getaway, and it was really nice.

We leave in a month for Haven, again on the getaway. I expect it to be a little more crowded, but I still have to think it will be "less crowded" than the non-haven areas, and less loud than the main pool. I guess I'll find out in a month or so.

Granted we spend most of our time in the spa, I don't mind some noise around the pool area. It is too easy to pop in a few ear plugs or my headphones and block out all the noise around me.

  4. my wife and I went on the Sun back in EARLY May, 2013 and the weather was pretty good. The weather was actually in the mid 60's most days, and even hit 70 while we were in Juneau while we were there visiting friends....... and it snowed over a foot there the next week.

So I would say in april, prepare for colder weather, probably anywhere from 30's - 60's if I had to guess.

Dress in layers, and have good rain gear.

  5. Hi,

If you do score an upgrade to a Haven cabin, do you get the perks that accompany that advertised category. I am currently booked for a balcony on the Escape in January and have been offered an upgrade opportunity. I now have free Ultimate Bev program and 3 meals - I believe Haven fare offers more perks. Hoping to score it all!

Top the very best of my knowledge you only get the perks you currently have, if you are selected for an upgrade.

someone please correct me if I am wrong.

  6. Trying to find some last minute flights for the cruise next month. My darling wife decided we should fly instead of drive.

All the cheaper tickets are with a 2-4pm departure, and I really don't want to sit at the airport for 5 hours waiting on a flight.

We are in the haven if that matters. Just wondering how late we could expect to possibly wait to get off the ship?

usually we are self-check-out folks at 8am, but this time not so much.

  7. On the last several cruises we have been on it is usually about even in terms of price

Balcony room + spa pass = Cost of Spa room, although I still think that is an upgrade because the spa rooms are a bit larger, much better bathrooms, and higher up on the ship if that is important to you.

  8. My wife and I are in the Haven in January and our promo package only included 3 nights of specialty dining, and we booked the illusionarium as well. So that only leaves us 3 nights, and I guess we will just do the haven for dinner :)

In your case...... it is absolutely cheaper to do the dining package than to do the a la carte.

  9. Not trying to hijack, but wanted to give my 2 cents on the best luggage tags I have ever used. I've been on several deployments, and multiple international trips and the best luggage tags I've ever used has been........

    Bright Orange Duct Tape.

Wrap it around the handle and loop it back on to itself, then write on it with a Sharpie. I've never had TSA, baggage handlers, luggage porters or anyone be able to destroy it.

For a little extra added help when trying to find your bag, you can also put a small strip of the tape on side of your bag. I had one situation where I had to have my bags pulled off a flight at the last minute, and I was able to tell the airline employees "Look for a bright orange tag on the handle, and a bright orange "X" on each side of the suitcase." it made it easy to identify.

    Just food for thought.

  10. If you don't mind, could you please describe some of the acts without giving too much away?

It is not simple card tricks, or pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

These ( at least in my opinion ), are Vegas quality acts. The mind-reading mental tricks are mind blowing. We went with another couple and the wife was picked to go on stage. The magic team basically asked her to write down the name of a celebrity, and by asking her 5 questions they figured out who it was, and the female member of the team actually painted it.

it wasn't pre-planned, and it literally freaked our friend out when they had the correct actor.

we had a great time, and I would highly recommend it.

  11. I have used radio's on the ships with great success, BUT they are 5 watt, 70cm amateur radios and you are supposed to have a license to use them. I do have that license, but that being said, I'm not sure anyone will check on the boat.

It would work the entire length of the boat, except on decks with only rooms on them. For example if you were on deck 9 aft, and someone else was on deck 9 front, all the metal walls of the rooms would not allow it to work.

In some cases we would leave a radio with our friends who were remaining on the boat while in port, and speak to them while we were off the boat in port. This worked especially good in the Bahamas, tortola, St Marteen, and St Thomas.

  12. Thank you ALL so much!

We booked the H9 for February 26, cabin 14128 on the Getaway, since I didn't want a pole.

I was a little worried how we would split our time since we really enjoy being in the Haven during the day but LOVED the poster that said they ate breakfast in the Haven, went to spa in the morning, came back to Haven for lunch and remained there for the afternoon.

    That sounds like heaven!

Thank you all so much!! So excited. Now I need to find out who the concierge is on the Getaway.

    Thank you all!

We are booked in the same room on the Jan 15th sailing IN ONLY 71 DAYS!!!!!!!:):):). if there wasn't so much time in between our sailings I would leave something in the room for you!

  13. We have done 6 cruises with NCL now, and the spa is great and so is the Haven.

My DW and I are both early risers to we would usually get up and have a light breakfast in the haven, then shuffle over to the spa for our morning "soak, steam, and bake" as we like to call it. 10-15 minutes in the pool or hot tub, then another 10-15 in the sauna, Then 30 or so minutes on the tile loungers, and a shower in the locker rooms.

The best hour of the day as far as I am concerned.

Then up to the courtyard for a while to catch some sun and have a few drinks.

    Back to Haven for lunch

Back to courtyard for more sun and drinks until we went to get ready for dinner or a show.

    Repeat for entire cruise :)

You will love the spa. Also remember if you are a latitudes member you can get a discount on spa treatments on port days, up to 25% depending on what latitude level you are.

Keep in mind the spa also has great showers, with shampoo and conditioner for you as well. This came in very handy when my wife and I decided on a last minute inside room, with a small bathroom. I would take my toiletry bag back to the spa and shower there, leaving my wife in the room so she could have a little more space. You obviously will not have that issue in a haven bathroom though as they are larger.

The spa is also, in my opinion, one of the best "viewing" spots on the entire boat. Side to side, floor to ceiling windows give you a great vantage point. This is not so much of a big deal in the Caribbean, but in Alaska it was awesome.
