  1. We absolutely love in the sanctuary my husband and I, however we are booked on our first cruise to Alaska over the Labor Day weekend, which is also the weekend of my birthday. Just wondering from those who have experienced the weather during that time. Do you think it will be too cold to truly enjoy the experience? We have the thermal suite pass booked for the week and we may just stick with that but oh how we love the sanctuary. Just curious as to what others have experienced and whether or not this would still be a worthwhile experience.

When the driver pulls up to the terminal he will stop at the luggage zone which is where you will get out with a short walk to the entrance. There is one entrance. At the entrance is one lane for suite & key members. I have seen parents with children who need to be tested also use this lane.

All others will will use the other entry lane. Unfortunately, many will be in line earlier than their assigned boarding time causing the line to extend far back. I suggest you go to the entry point and ask the attendant who is able to line up.  Once I was told groups with 3 different entry times were allowed entry. Once inside the terminal, there is no special section for emerald. Look for the shortest line or go where told to go.

On disembarkment,  facial recognition is used. Exit the terminal to your left, once outside go right to the pick up zone for car services. Overhead numbers will indicate zones 2-10, for you to inform your driver where you are. The last zone is #10, it is closest to the parking garage entry doors & elevator. Zone 10 is also for those using taxi, they must cross the 2 crosswalks on the road to the lot for the taxi dispatcher.

The Tear Drop Memorial is very close to the luggage zone. It was given by Russia in remembrance of September 11. It can be seen from the ship. If you have time to wait before your assigned entry, you might want to visit the memorial. There are benches outside the terminal but not enough for all who arrive early and must wait until their assigned time.

  3. HI there! Need some advice ... we are cruising on Oasis 9/4 have the Springhill Suites booked for the night prior- included parking for the 7 days. We opted to not get the port transportation rather Uber or Lyft to and from hotel to port and back. Wanted to see what the areas are like at port- meaning outside is there a section for priority access? We are Emerald and wanted to know if there is a section for that or how is it set up there? We have never cruised out of this port. We are driving up from Ocean City MD area. Any embarkation info. and advice would be truly helpful Thanks so much.

  4. Was wondering if anyone was following Isaac. I was wondering how far behind Florence he is. And it says going to the eastern Caribbean. I’m supposed to be doing the eastern itinerary starting September 16.

Yeah I was wondering same thing but it’s too early yet to tell.

  5. It is a US law called the Passenger Vessel Services Act.

It is meant to protect US flagged passenger vessels. Among other provisions, it prohibits foreign flagged passenger vessels (which applies to virtually all cruise ships) from starting and ending a cruise at two different US ports without visiting a distant foreign port.

    Ok thanks for the explanation

  6. We are leaving next Sunday for a cruise out of Tampa on the Brilliance so I am hoping by then most of this will be over and we will be cleared to go but I do know that hurricane Iassac is set to hit the Caribbean by end of next week too. Our scheduled ports are Key West and Cozumel- hoping it steers clear of both. We do have cruise insurance but not sure what all that covers, suppose I should go and check it out.

  7. We just booked this today after the reveal. It looks like it will be a beautiful ship once completed. I have seen the deck plans and we are in a spa balcony room deck 11- a little disappointed they will not have any spa suites but I guess they just don't have the room for them. I would have totally booked one of those. Excited to see a sailing out of Norfolk as we are only 2 + hours away from this port. So will be a short drive for us. Looking forward to hearing more about this refit and ship. :)

  8. Yes, we are booked on the Jan 20th cruise as well. We are also glad we booked immediately, before the prices went up. We are going on 2 preview cruises and will not expect to have as relaxing an experience as subsequent Edge cruises, since we will be exploring and experiencing everything. I imagine our Jan 20th cruise will be a time for pampering and kicking back and spending more time enjoying the benefits of the Retreat.

I do think the ship has so many other wonderful areas to enjoy that when on future cruises, where we will likely be priced out of a suite, we will still have an amazing experience. :D

Is there a charge for this adult only solarium. We are staying in AQ room- is this included or is it only the suites?? Or can any adult use the solarium??
