I tend to wear a swim suit under shorts and a shirt. I wore my Keens all over Hawaii and the Caribbean and won't wear anything else.

Taxi is really your only choice in San Juan. As you exit the airport, there is a line for Taxis. When you get to the front they will ask where you want to go. Fees are set.

I don't know about late check out but most hotels will store your luggage for you. We did a tour to the rain forest with Ellis in the morning and then he took us to the ship around 4:00. Another option is to take your luggage to Barrachina restaurant in OSJ and let them store it while you walk around and see the sights.

thanks for the post...after reading a little more i'm nervous about the rain/mud conditions. will he cancel or change the tour if the conditions warrant it?
He will change the tour if the conditions are unsafe. You will have a great time no matter what.

Ellis is great. We have used him twice and had a great time.

I have bought from Diviine Modestee and love their suits

lots of info here including walking tour guides

You will need a car or hire a tour guide to go to El Yunque. It is about an hour our of San Juan.

I highly recommend spending the day in Old San Juan. There is much more to see besides the Forts. The area itself is a relatively small area and you can walk and see much of it. Besides the forts, there is the Paseo de la Princesa, the San Juan Gate, many small shops and restaurants, unique buildings and churches, Parque de las Palomas where you can feed the pigeons.

Carnival, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean sail out of PR. Maybe others that I don't know about. We really liked Celebrity.

We took a cab, it wasn't far but I don't remember the price. You can read about taxi rates here: http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/getting-around-by-taxi/
OSJ is a relatively small area. You can walk to the forts or just shop in the little stores.

In San Juan Luquillo Beach, Bahia Beach and Pinones Beach are named best beaches there, with Luquillo beach located behind a waterfall, which is really beautiful. I'm wondering how far it is from the port and how much for a cab drive?

i work at an information desk at a national conservation area. You would be amazed how many people have "service" chihuahuas. I wish that i could get a large service snake and train it to eat service chihuahuas.

Hello,
Could you tell me where you found the walking tour online. We will be there in April and just want to walk around the town and go to the forts and go to Barrachina's for a pina colada and do some shopping!
Thank you :p

What type of hotel are you looking for? If you just want basic accomodations, we stayed at the Borinquen Beach Inn in San Juan for around $100 a night. The room was large and clean, the beds were super comfortable but this is a basic hotel, nothing fancy.
-
No, you do not have to eat there. Just leave a tip in the jar. I am sure they appreciate it.
-
Barrachina restaurant offers luggage storage for free from 9-5.
-
Drop it off at Barrachina restaurant. The service is free from 9-5 (tip jar on counter)

We have used Ellis twice and I can't say enough good things about him. He will customize your tour for you. Our first trip, we had him take us to the rain forest. http://puertorico.craigslist.org/trv/5463799252.html?lang=en&cc=us
When we went down last January, we did his mango daiquiri tour http://puertorico.craigslist.org/trv/5443076674.html?lang=en&cc=us
-
How long will you be there?
-
You can drop your luggage off at Barrachina restaurant in Old San Juan and walk around OSJ for a while. Check out one or both forts as well as the old city. OSj is a relatively small area and you can see quite a bit in a few hours.
-
Ellis is great. WE have used him twice and plan on using him again when we return. I can't say enough good things about him. You can email him fleisherellis@aol.com or message him through Craigslist. http://puertorico.craigslist.org/trv/5405237482.html?lang=en&cc=us
He is also on Facebook

Actually according to Barrachina's website, they offer luggage storage from 9-5
