  1. The Fantasy class is older and smaller. Next came the Destiny class which included the Triumph and Victory. They then changed the Destiny to be a class by itself because it had one less deck and the Triumph and Victory where then classed as the Triumph class.

The next class was the Spirit Class. She is narrower so that she can pass through the Panama Canal.

Then came the Conquest Class. She is longer than the Triumph Class and holds more people. She also has two buffet areas making it easier to use the buffet.

Next came the Dream Class. She is a lot bigger than the Conquest Class and has more bells and whistles. The Breeze and Magic fall into the Dream Class and more bells and whitles were added to the last two.

The Destiny was taken into drydock and completely re-done. She came out as the Sunshine and is in a class by herself.

Currently under construction is the Vista which is in another class. Not much has been announced as to what she will be like.

Thank you for spelling that out for me. That helps a lot. It's still confusing but I have a much better understanding than I started with. WHEW! I'm interested in following this thread as it continues to see the opinions of others. I hope to get a better idea of what each ship has to offer. I was very satisfied with on our trip on The Sunshine. I'm afraid she spoiled me and I'm scared to branch out and try something new. LOL

  2. We were in Spa Balcony Cabin 11027 (and friends in connecting 11029) our room looked exactly like that but we didn't have the couch made into a bed.

The room was very quiet, we did not hear any noise from above us, below us or from the hallway. The deck is short so not much traffic. Our balcony was covered so deck 12 didn't look down on us but deck 10 was NOT covered so we looked right down at them. When we exited our room to our right we were just a few doors down from the elevators or stairs and if we exited to our left we were just a couple of doors down from walking out to the Serenity pool. Our location seemed pretty near perfect to us!

    :-)

  3. We did not see one in September...and at no time were we offered a chance (or a discount) to book another cruise. We could have missed it though.

Oops, didn't see that had already been answered.

I would also love to know how to upload photos...I tried to upload one of The Fantasy in downtown Charleston and couldn't get it to do anything but thumbnail size. I don't know about y'all but I can't see THAT size without finding my reading glasses. UGH.

  4. We are leaving on the Sunshine in two weeks so I am very much looking forward to your review.

I do have one quick question: does the Sunshine have a Future Cruise Desk? We are interested in booking another cruise while onboard and was not sure if there is a future cruise desk.

We did not see one in September...and at no time were we offered a chance (or a discount) to book another cruise. We could have missed it though.

  5. Can someone please tell me where to find a description of the different classes of the Carnival ships. I see this referred to all the time but I can not find anything on the Carnival website that shows me the differences. HELP. Please point me to the site with the explanation of the differences. I've been wondering this for a few months... now it seems like this is the perfect thread to ask this question. :-)

  6. Great pics of the Fantasy btw. We'll be staying at the Radisson in North Charleston, haven't seen the greatest reviews on it, but it's the only thing that fit our budget and offered free parking for the week along with free roundtrip shuttle to the cruise port. DH seems pretty excited about Jim & Nicks on that side of town so we'll probably end up there that night. And I'm always looking for local seafood when on the coast and willing to try any local spot with a decent catch :)

I don't think you'll regret staying at that Radisson. It won't be fancy, probably will show some wear and tear but at least you'll be in a good area. There are plenty of shady places I'd tell you NOT to stay in and around N. Chas. but you should be okay in that area near the airport. And it sounds like they are offering a good deal. Shouldn't take long for the shuttle to get to the port if it isn't rush hour on a week day! Jim & Nicks is right there and so is The Tanger Outlet Mall if you like to shop and have time. Enjoy your trip. I'd love to hear about it when you return.

P.S. I think you'll enjoy Shem Creek Bar & Grill, we enjoy all the food in that area.

  7. What kind of food are you wanting? Shem Creek Bar and Grill (Mt. Pleasant) is touristy but has a local flavor, same with most restaurants on Shem Creek.

    https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Shem+Creek,+Mount+Pleasant,+SC&hl=en&ll=32.790585,-79.881238&spn=0.007405,0.013937&sll=32.848248,-79.81622&sspn=0.2368,0.445976&oq=she&t=m&z=17

North Charleston has lots of "national" chains that are fine to eat.

    Jim & Nicks is good.

I hope to have a great review of LSC and always have a good time on the Fantasy... will try to save some rum!

We also like Shem Creek Bar & Grill! It is a little more of a restaurant than a Bar & Grill but NOT fancy...and directly across the "Creek" is Red's Icehouse if you like to hang out in a real bar type atmosphere...bar food and drinks but same wonderful view as Shem Creek Bar & Grill. R B's is right next door to Red's if you want seafood in a "fancy" atmosphere...still same view.

Jim & Nick's BBQ in N. Chas. is good, it's not NC bbq or Texas bbq but it is it's own southern type bbq. I love their loaded baked potato that is "loaded" with all the regular baked potato fixins PLUS bbq. YUMM...

  8. Well you'll be kicking off the fun a week before we do then. I'll be looking for your review when we get back since we haven't been to LSC yet. Have a great time and keep the Fantasy in good shape for us ;) I've got one more question though, but this one is about Charleston, since I've noticed you're from the area... If you had to pick a good place to eat, without it being a complete tourist trap, where would you go? We'll be staying one night in the Mt. Pleasant area and another in the North Charleston area, but will travel into town, or a little away from town, for some good eats. Thanks!

I live in N. Chas. Where are you staying? I might be able to give you some suggestions close to your hotel. What do you want to eat? Seafood? BBQ? Or just chain type food?

  9. We were downtown Charleston last Saturday, Dec. 21st and I took a couple of shots of The Fantasy from Waterfront Park. Thought I'd share them on here. :-)

(If I can figure out how!... Sorry, can't figure out how to make them larger than thumbnails.)

  10. We had a Spa Balcony cabin on The Sunshine in September. We were on Deck 11 and we had a covered balcony. I know that Deck 10 was NOT covered because we looked right down on them. They had no privacy at all! Deck 11 is very short so there wasn't much traffic, we didn't hear any noise from the hallway. It was great to walk right out to the Serenity pool. And I didn't really "feel" the movement of the ship until the last two days. We had bad weather the last two nights and EVERYONE on all decks felt the movement of the ship. LOL!

One more thought...Spa balcony cabins are non smoking even on the balcony area...so as great as they are for some they might not work for you.

  11. Oh my; we will be in cabin 9136 and need a mini bar for diabetic supplies. Has anyone been in that cabin. Maybe I should call special needs to find out if they have a mini bar in that cabin

    thanks for the info

CALL! Everything I've read here on CC says they have a few available for use in circumstances such as yours. But they are limited. So I'd suggest you NOT wait, call them and make arrangements as soon as possible!

  12. Crusing in a blacony cabin on the Sunshine in 2 weeks, all the previous cruises that Ive been on ( in balconies) have always had a fridge, but I thought I read recently that they werent "standard" in balcony cabins anymore, but only certain cabins. Deck 6 , if that helps...

    Thanks

    Bonnie

We were in a Spa Balcony Cabin on Deck 11 in September and we had a mini-bar that we used as a fridge. As others have said it seems like they are not standard...some cabins have them some don't.

  13. We had a Spa Balcony cabin on The Sunshine in September. We were on Deck 11 and we had a covered balcony. I know that Deck 10 was NOT covered because we looked right down on them. 14. We are doing the 11 day Repo in April...Look forward to your review!!

    Thanks in advance!!

We are also booked on the 11 day repo in April. This will be our second cruise. We were on The Sunshine for a Med tour in Sept and we have already booked her for our second cruise. We didn't get to spend as much time on the ship as we would have liked to in Sept so we picked the repo cruise because it has a lot of sea days! Since we've only cruised once I am certainly not an expert...but I have to say we loved every minute on The Sunshine. We had a couple of minor complaints (yes, the Liquid Lounge was poorly designed and the Serenity area gets crowded early in the day) but most things on the ship were excellent. We're not picky people. I enjoyed the food that someone else prepared for me. It was good! And my room was made up twice a day. We had an ice bucket that was always filled without us asking. And we did have a mini-bar/fridge in our Spa cabin on the 11th floor. There was NO foot traffic noise on the 11th deck and we walked right out to the Serenity pool. It was AWESOME. The shows we saw were all very good. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable at all times. Overall it was a fantastic trip. Actually there was one thing terribly wrong...it was only 12 days and they went by WAY TO FAST!!!

  15. I sailed on the Sunshine in September in an Aft OS, which most certainly had a 'fridge..:D

I am under the impression that IS and some OV's do not.., but I could be mistaken as I did not occupy one!:p:)

I was on the same cruise as stlrboo (Hi Dave!) booked in a Spa Balcony Cabin on Deck 11 and we had a mini-bar which we used as a fridge. So I am POSITIVE some cabins do have mini-bars/fridges. We also had an ice bucket that was kept filled for us without us asking. On sea days I believe it was refilled three times. We had a great time on The Sunshine and are already looking forward to our next cruise.

  16. Thank you for restarting a new thread. The old was was too long and out dated.

The thread evolved from "Carnival Secrets" to alos include tips and ideas from seasoned cruisers. I found those actually more helpful than the "Carnival Secrets"

Heres one i started doing on my last cruise. With Digital cameras, we all end up taking hundreds of pictures. My problem was that after the cruise when I got home, I would go through my pics and have a hard time remembering where a pic was taken, when, and what it was!

So now each morning, before I leave the cabin, I take a picture of the front page of the Fun Times. It has the date and port of call on it. I now know that every pic taken after that one is in sucn and such port and taken on such and such date. Makes organizing our photo albums much easier.

I did this on our Med trip in September. But I took it one step further. Each morning I also took a picture of the TV screen that had a map of the trip. It showed not only the date, time, where we had been, where we were still going and if I caught it on the correct screen (it scrolls through) it would show the total miles we had traveled so far on the trip. (Final one in Barcelona was 2,948NM I had no clue we were traveling that many miles.) We did 10 ports in 12 days. All the cathedrals and ruins would have been one big blur if I had not done this. I also took another picture before bedtime just for fun to show where we were at that point, how fast we were traveling etc. And don't forget if you are in a different time zone the date on your camera may be wrong. Most of the date stamps on my camera were off by a day.

  17. You're welcome and thank you!

There is also a Deanie's in the FQ, if you didn't know.

You'll have the best of both worlds and get to enjoy both!

That is EXACTLY what my mouth is watering for. I can't wait!!! Bucktown is my favorite and I doubt we will go to the FQ this trip...been there, done that enough. We will be staying in Abita Springs before this cruise so Bucktown is actually closer to us. Did I mention I can't wait?!!! Thanks for the photo, it is just like I remember, only thing missing is the boiled potatos. We are going during crawfish season and will have a crawfish boil so I can eat crawfish till I make myself sick...and I probably will... AHHHH...:D

  18. Loved seeing your photos of the view of New Orleans from The Sunshine. I used to live in Harvey and I've traveled the GNO bridge quite a few times. I've also traveled on the river multiple times via the ferry and The Delta Queen. I am so excited to be able to see the view from The Sunshine. We were on The Sunshine for a Med cruise in September (our first cruise) and we now have a cruise booked on her leaving NO. I can not wait to see that view for myself and travel down The Mississippi on The Sunshine. Your pictures are making me even more excited...just like following your Med review in May. Actually, I'm not sure what has me more excited...the cruise or knowing we're going to tackle the big fried seafood platter at Deanie's in Bucktown. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Ha ha.

Thanks for sharing your photos and review!
