  1. Thanks for clearing that up for us. It was illogical, and dare I say incredible, for anyone to suggest that on any given day the captain (or someone else) changes the dress code based on the height of the waves and their own personal beliefs as to whether it's too arduous to put on a bow tie.

Although, if that was the way Cunard was going to organise the dress code I would be talking with other interested parties about having a whip round and shouting everyone an expresso so that we could have an additional formal night that evening.

Oh, and it's raining in New York.

Hope you have a great trip Whitemarsh. Really hoping you find time to let us know how you are getting on. :)

  2. I am sailing on the Queen Elizabeth in July of 2014 in the Mediterranean for 7-nights. Since this is my first time in Europe at all, as well as sailing on Cunard, I am wondering about how the general experience is onboard the ship. How are the activities, pools, games decks, cuisine, formal attire, etc. Also, since I am visiting a few different countries, I am wondering about currency. I understand that all use the Euro, and does the Euro differ at all between each country or is the currency all the same and I would only need the Euro?

We took Euros in cash and that worked well for us, but it's personal choice really - a debit card is just as good.

It gets very hot in the Mediterranean in the summer, but if you don't mind the heat it's fine.

We found the ship had lots more children/teenagers than we were expecting due to the summer school holidays. One pool was designated as adults only; I think it was the one at the back. The midships pool area was very busy - difficult to get a sunbed or any kind of seat for that matter. If you travel in the Grills though you won't need to worry - lovely large deck for Grills passengers, but no pool up there unfortunately.

Dress is generally quite formal, but in a good way! Day wear is casual but, mostly, people do stick to the dress codes in the evenings.

We didn't use the speciality restaurants but lots of others here have done and I think I've yet to read anything bad about the Verandah restaurant.

Scrapnana is right about following Lovely Serenity's report - she takes lots of pictures and gives a very detailed account.

You will love QE, she's a beautiful ship.:)

  3. Is the port within safe walking distance of the centre?

I think it would be too far to walk but as Capnpugwash says, there is a shuttle. However I don't think the shuttle takes you all the way to the shops etc. It's probably another 10 minute walk beyond the shuttle stop to see the sights. There are several open top hop-on/hop-off bus tours from the shuttle stop area. Be careful though if you get a taxi back to the ship - they charge extra to drive right into the port. Try to get the shuttle back if possible or at least get the taxi to drop you outside the port area itself if you don't want to pay the substantial surcharge.

  4. What is the charge for the injection and does it actually help. I usually take sturgeon and make use of the bands but in Dec we are sailing across the Biscay down to North Africa so may need something stronger... I really don't want sea sickness to have a negative impact on the voyage.

We sailed through the Bay of Biscay in a force 10 and Stugeron did the trick. What works for me is to start taking it when we leave Southampton and I take it every 8 hours after that. If Stugeron has worked for you before, then it will probably be OK. I don't think its as effective if you take it when you are already feeling sick.

I've not had the injection so I'm not sure if you can have both at the same time.
