Currently on the glory and was curious why they add a 15% gratuity on beers dispensed from a pour your own beer machine. (The online receipt on the hub app even lists it as a line item “tip”) I grab a cup, swipe my card and pour my own beer. Other than restocking the plastic cups and changing the kegs what service is being provided. It certainly won’t break me and I tip the bartenders above the 15% but something about this is irritating.

Always tip!! In the US, the shuttle driver/bellman/valet are all tipping positions. That means their regular hourly wage is substantially lower than, say the Front Desk Agent, because they are expected to receive tips.
I always feel sorry for the guys at my hotel who do all 3 jobs, especially in the summer/fall. The people who come for the business meetings or booked a cheap rate on Groupon/Expedia/HotelTonight, etc., are "cheap." They will take that shuttle multiple times, ask for ice, etc., and not drop a dime...
I certainly advocate tipping but your post is incorrect. They are fully paid positions unlike a server/waiter.

Yes, especially if they assist with your luggage. I usually will tip $1 per bag or $1 per passenger if no luggage and they are helpful and friendly
Edited to add. I’ll tip more if they wait for me, make extra stops etc

I disagree with you saying its a poor long term stock. It depends when you bought it. If you look at a 10 year chart, yes it lags the S&P. I bought during the recession, and its been a great investment.
I think that the main point of this thread was: the companies financial well being going far beyond weather, and is much less influenced by hurricanes than people thing from a knee jerk reaction.
I agree long term the hurricanes will have little impact on the stock. Although if there is a social media uproar over how carnival responds that might make things a little more shaky over the next couple of years. However we are father removed from the hurricanes where it doesn’t look like it will be an issue. Weird world where you have to account for social media- think “poop cruise” or even recently
The united airlines snafu.
Re: 10 year return the last recession started in 12/2017 almost exactly 10
Years ago so it is a relavent time frame of performance.

Ya, now its only up 35% over the past 12 months....
This is in bull market that has seen 16% plus gains in that same time period. On a 10 year basis it lags the general market average with about 4.5% return versus the sp 500 average of 10%.
I am long carnival but I don’t want people to think/ expect that the stock will continue to go up like this when in fact it has been a poor long term investment (and that doesn’t even take into account the risk of owning a single stock versus owning a diversified portfolio. )

That's odd. My rewards appear as soon as the transaction is posted.
We have a Delta Gold card, Barclay Arrival Plus, and a Sapphire Reserve. All three had great sign up bonuses and just keeping the Arrival when the annual fee comes up. The delta card is our primary card right now as they are giving 7000 points for every $2000 we spend up to 21000 points. We got the offer in the mail. I guess they noticed we stopped using it lol. The Sapphire gave us the best deal as it almost paid for all 4 of our Ireland tickets and gave us free insurance in Ireland which only chase does and free Global entry fee. Delta card did get us $100 off a cruise.

If you plan on using any of the chase sapphire products in the future it looks they changed to the tc’s to being 24 months before you can bonus another sapphire product (reserve or preferrred). Looks like they are preparing for the slew of cancellations from the 100K churners who have annual fees coming up. Might be worth keeping with the $300 travel credit, multipliers on travel and dining as well
As primary insurance in car rentals and travel/ medical travel insurance

No need for government intervention. All the airlines that have policies that cover changes in schedule, routing (ie #of stops), even equipment change (ie different plane type. Such as moving from a 737 to a RJ).
The rules vary airline to airline but are covered in the booking and ticketing procedures sections of the contact of carriage.
A general summary for the three majors 60 minute change allows free change, 2 hours allow for a refund. (United is actually 30 minutes, 2 hours. Delta 60/90, and AA 60/2 hours).

Could you pay for and stream
The PPV to your personal device?
The high level internet is supposed to support faster speeds.

The official carnival answer is no. (Per website) Unless you have a suite than you could connect via rca cables so if you have a tablet to rca adaptor than you can (website says suites can hook up DVD players etc via rca)
Unofficially you can do it as well but since it is not carnival approved I won't give details.
I suspect carnival doesn't care what you hookup but because they have pay per view movies they a) want movie income so why make it easy and b) the content companies
Want to prevent copying of movies as well.

The rapid rewards shopping portal is your cheapest beat if you are going to buy something online anyway. The only issue might be the time frame when they post. You could also try staying at a hotel through the swa vacation site. Lastly can't you just buy points?

not Mississippi either, want me to Google Alabama
http://statelaws.findlaw.com/mississippi-law/mississippi-legal-ages-laws.html
clearly 18 there as well
It clearly says the age of majority in Mississippi is 21.

That's really interesting and I'd never heard of anything like this until it was brought up in this thread. I wonder how many people those states lose, moving to other states to start their lives?
I don't think that it plays a big role since most of those children are still in high school for some or all age 18. They could also petition the court for emancipation and become emancipated if they get married or join the military.
For us it creates some issue with things like college but that is far off topic for this thread

http://statelaws.findlaw.com listed age of majority for Colorado as 21 but once you scroll down it shows 18. So that leaves nebraska., Alabama and Mississippi as being the sole ones with 19 aom.
Here is a better resource listing all the states and the applicable laws https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/table_emancipation
Sometimes I shouldn't google before my coffee

Never heard of 19 as being the age of majority. What state is this?
Either way, they don't need a letter.
Multiple states Nebraska,Colorado, Alabama, Mississippi. Also District of Columbia
I agree they won't need a letter unless there would be a court decree restricting travel (i.e. Divorce or custodial issues)

You 100% do not need a letter. Their parents are no longer legally responsible for them once they reach 18, therefore, you don't need their permission to take them anywhere. I PROMISE you what I am telling you is .
Not true for all states. The age of majority in some states (mine) is 19. However, I doubt the OP needs a letter. I believe all the states Carnival cruises out of (not sure about the carolina's) the age of majority is 18. ••I was wrong Alabama also has age of majority of 19 s
And yes it seems very weird that my 18 year old can serve in the military and vote but is still a minor (except if he marries, than he becomes emancipated).

You and a bunch of others got so excited to save 10% you failed to do any research before purchasing your compromised cards.
That website is rampant with gift card fraud. Carnival is having literally hundreds of worthless cards submitted. Personally, I think Carnival is well with reason to lock up the accounts of all those who submitted bad gift cards.
As with everything in life, buyer beware ! If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't. All these scams work due to people's greed, plain and simple. Stick with the 3 verified vendors of discounted Carnival gift cards and you will never have this issue again.
The OP did nothing wrong. She purchased a gift card at discount. Card cash is a legitimate website and completes thousands of transactions without issues. The fact that she is worried about Keeping her credit card information is a good thing. If more people kept their information and passwords secure fraudsters wouldn't be able obtain and use stolen credit Card numbers to buy gift cards. There are also more than 3 vendors that sell gift cards at a discount and the 3 you are implying aren't even gift card merchants but rewards programs.

One of best travel cards is the chase sapphire reserve.
3x ultimate rewards points on all travel and dining. One point is worth $.01 or $.015 cent if redeemed for travel.
Perks include $300 travel credit for anything travel related including airfare, hotel, cruises, even uber. Global entry or Tsa pre reimbursement once every 4 years. Airport lounge access via priority pass. Primary insurance with auto rental. If you pay for any portion of travel with card it also offers free trip cancellation, delay insurance as well as medical care when traveling.
Currently offers 50000 signup but was as high as 100000 at one point in the last year. Points can be redeemed directly at 1:1 ratio for hotel and airline partners or through the chase portal for 1:1.5 ratio

Looks like maybe the rain bands are shifting to the east so maybe the waters can recede a little bit before the showers start back up in Houston. Amazing to get a years worth of rain in a week

All depends on the on the insurance Company and the policy itself.
My best advice is to buy as soon as you book or pay your deposit.
NEVER travel with out insurance if you can bot afford a travel insurance you should not travel. An accident or sudden illness can cost your life or your total assets.
We never travel without insurance. A short stay in an ER abroad can get up thousands of dollars.
Have a nice and safe trip.

You don't need travel insurance. In fact buying travel insurance is a poor buy.
Medical Insurance of some kind on the other hand is beneficial when traveling.
Unfortunately people tend to not research the difference and overpay by buying a bundle with both travel and medical
Insurance.

I have never bought airfare from the cruise line before. What do they'd do about people who are delayed since you bought the airfare directly from carnival? Would they hold departure like they do for some carnival
Excursions or do they make arrangements at their expense to get you to the next port?
Obviously if you bought your own airfare the cruise line has no obligation to accommodate you but since they are making the travel arrangements they should have some liability

You didn't say where home was the girls but I am going to assume New Orleans area since the flight is out of NO. Have you looked into flying out to either Nassau or Miami Tuesday evening? Or flying to Nassau via Miami with an overnight layover in Miami? Sometimes you can choose a flight that splits days and still is one fare. That might allow them arrive in Nassau earlier. They could either spend the night in the terminal or stay at an airport hotel.
Lastly have you looked at private plane charters from no to Nassau. (Haven't donr this to international
Destinations so I am not sure what extra hoops you might have to go
Through). They are surprisingly affordable when you are flying multiple people short distances. Even better some of the private air charters offer special
Deals when they have an empty flight leaving a destination. I.e. Someone hires plane from
Destination A to B one way. Rather than fly home
Empty they offer discounted rates to fill the plane on the next leg of the trip. Those legs are usually less flexible and likely won't meet your needs but you could look at the various websites and see if you might get lucky.

Anyone order from the carnival funshops and get this offer to work?
-
Thanks me too! I hate to have to have my CC have to fight it.
Carnival told me the same thing, I was a bit confused as I had sent them proof I had purchased them honestly. I have one that is coming as a rewards from a credit card. I guess I now have to sell the dumb thing. Im glad you got your money back. I talked to Cardacash Friday but nothing so far.
Regarding card cash. Don't email them. If it had been less than 45 days go into your account and find the transaction. Next to
The gift card there should be a link to click to report a problem. Choose the appropriate response and add any additional info (i.e. Carnival cancelled payment saying they were invalid). Doing this I generally get a refund notice within 24 hours and it posts to my credit card within 3 days. I estimate about 40% of the cards I have bought have had issues but I promptly get a refund. I just wouldn't use them for payment on things that can be cancelled or airlines, cruises. Hotels are ok if you have backup funds to pay at checkin (and will
Be staying within 45 days).
Weird mix of invalid cards though
Every time I buy noddles it gets drained or becomes invalid
Panera 2/3 invalid
Hu hut 1 was good (and still is six months later)
Five guys 0/2 invalid and one still
Had value
Dunkin' Donuts both good
Marriott both good
Burger Fi 1/2 invalid
Jason deli 1/2 invalid
I would have to go into my account for more transactions but there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the fraud

Carnival Hubb Ap
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted
The hub app is much improved from last year. Just off the glory and while the WiFi sucked the hub app was snappy and had almost all the info I needed a quick swipe away. Adding menus was a welcome addition and the app was very responsive. Did not use the chat function
