gkeep Posted January 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Will be in Wellington in March, looking to do the Weta Cave tours in the afternoon. Trying to decide on the There and Back Again tour which includes both tours and picks you up and returns you to the isite, and supposedly has some sightseeing and guided information during the ride to the weta cave. It is $85 pp. You can book just the two tours for $45 a person, and would need your own transport to get there. It sounds like the public bus isn't too difficult but I then I worry about ease of getting there and back on our own. Has anyone done either option that would like to share their experience? Thanks! kiwijo Posted January 23, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2018 Make it easy on yourself and book the There & Back Again - and book it well in advance as it will sell out on peak days.

Good advice. Gets very busy on cruise ship days.;)
CoopColbie Posted January 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2018 Agreed - if you really want to do the Weta Tour, you need to pre-book that one.
trosebery Posted January 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2018 Was just in Wellington and on the WETA tour and yes, prebook. There were people walking in while we were waiting in the gift shop for our tour, and they were all being turned away, "Sorry, we don't have any tours left for today." (And this was in the morning.) Although public transportation to Miramar from Wellington isn't difficult, it really is the middle of nowhere as far as sightseeing is concerned -- just your average suburban residential neighbourhood. If you're early for your tour, there's not much there except browse the gift shop (and take photos with the cave trolls outside). And if you're late, you're out of luck. There and Back Again is easy and convenient.
