Princess dropping San Diego?

Any scuttlebutt on why Princess has dropped the port of San Diego as an embarkation port? We sailed out of there on the Dawn last November, and had planned on doing another cruise that ended or started there in the future just to be able to spend more days in that port!

Do they routinely drop ports for a few years, and bring them back in a rotation of sorts?

I dont know that they "rotate" ports, but San Diego has been on-again/off-again for twenty years. I don't know that Princess is dropping San Diego, so much as seeing what shakes out of the latest renovation at the Port of San Diego. They may move back in, or find another terminal. I don't think anyone, including Princess, knows for sure yet.

Sad to hear that Princess is leaving.....San Diego is a beautiful city to sail from......and I am glad we have been able to sail from our home city twice. Hopefully Princess will schedule future cruises from here....:)

Parent Company Carnival investing $12 Million in new Terminal for San Diego, I'm sure there's a future for Princess in San Diego.

The San Diego Port Commission has voted in favor of spending $23 million on a new cruise ship terminal at the foot of Broadway. However it remains unclear where that money will come from. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

Carnival Cruises has agreed to pay $12 million towards the cruise ship terminal, but that will only pay for an unsightly prefab warehouse building, which would ruin the visionary plans for San Diego's downtown waterfront.

Critics object to building any terminal on the Broadway pier which is a center piece for the Embarcadero. But the cruise ship industry is bringing millions of dollars to San Diego's economy, so Port Commissioners approved an upgraded architectural design estimated to cost $23 million.
