I am taking my mother on a trip on Oceana on the 19th June. My mother will like the shows/cinema and reading in the shade/library. Can someone provide me with any details with regard to the standard of entertainment?

Im sure i will just be entertained with the fact that i am with my mother and her friend for a whole week. Is this mainly a couples environment? will their be lots of children at this time of the year.

I am looking forward to this trip even though i have not cruised before.

thanks

Oceana is a lovely ship and having been on various P & O ships she does tend to appeal to younger couples. As it's June and the schools won't have broken up yet there probably won't be hoardes of children but there will be some obviously.

Regarding entertainment, the cabaret "stars" are usually not that thrilling in my opinion their is the odd exception but overall this is an area where P & O could improve. The theatre company were excellent and I can recommend them. There is also dancing, casino, films, quizzes, and a variety of musical entertainment in all the bars.

I'm sure you'll both have a wonderful time.

There is no dedicated cinema on Oceana as there is on Aurora/Oriana. They do however show films. I think this maybe in the theatre when there is no show on. Don't tend to go to see the films as I always fall asleep!! After our ships visit to see Oceana I was worried as she was different to the Aurora/Oriana, but I have to say it was one of the best cruises we have had. I'm sure you will have a brilliant time.

At last - somebody else is actually going on this cruise! I did start a roll call but I was beginning to think we were alone.

We are also taking my partner's mother on this cruise with us, so I doubt your mother with be alone in being a "single".

Only 27 days and counting now - can't wait!!

Hi Keith

It's nice to know there are a few Cruise Critic posters out there on this cruise after all. I tried a roll call on the P&O site as well as this but both were VERY quiet and I was beginning to think it was me.

I have read a few of your other posts on different threads, so I kind of already know you.(spook thought that may feel).

I see you are from the same neck of the woods as us (almost) too. We're from Warrington and are driving down on the Sat before we sail.

Glad to have you on board.

Were are going also. Travelling down from South Yorkshire to the HI Express at Oxford on Saturday and then on to Southampton on Sunday morning.

Tickets havn't arrived yet! Our travel agent said they only received them from P&O last Friday and we should get them tomorrow. Even if they don't turn up, we will:)

Where can the roll call be found?

I tried to start a roll call forever ago here, on the roll call thread and on the P&O site, but nobody wanted to talk to me :( . This was the only place anybody seemed to want to communicate. It's so quiet compared to the Celebrity thread which we are also on for September - we are at 300+ posts on there. I guess the Brits are just more reserved.

We booked ages ago with Thomas Cook because I had some gift vouchers and a few months ago with Save n Sale for the mother-in-law. Her tickets came about 5 days before ours! We finally got ours last Wed.

If you haven't already seen it, there is a mainly british yahoo group called welovecrusing where P+O is discussed a lot.

I won't post the address, but a search should find it quite quickly

I find them very friendly, my only problem is that it now takes half my lunch ohour to keep up with them!

I've been on Oceana once & really enjoyed it. Iwill be going again in October - this time on my own.
