Gifts for Cruisers

I am looking for a way to have children or others buy gift certificates to be used as OBC by their parents on a cruise coming up January 5th. The cruise has been paid in full. Royal Caribbean seems to have a very strictly controlled gift certificate policy that appears to make them difficult to use. Evidently, you have to use them ten days prior to the cruise. I guess you would have to mail them in but I'm not sure. You would think they would be like cash - take them to the customer service desk and have them applied to your onboard account. Is this correct and is there any better way to give folks a Christmas gift to be used on a cruise?

Don't use the gift certificates, they are a hassle. Call RC and have the OBC applied to directly to their bookings: 800-722-5443. It would help to have booking numbers.
