avidcruiser50 Posted June 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2017 We have a day to spare in Vancouver after concluding an Alaska cruise at the beginning of July. We don't want to keep our luggage with us all day, so any ideas on what to do from those with a similar experience would be appreciated.

xlxo Posted June 2, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2017 If you have an afternoon flight.... CDS luggage can store your luggage at the cruise terminal til 4pm If you have a late evening flight.... CDS also has an option to transfer your luggage to the airport location. You need to budget 45 minutes to get to the airport You need to budget an additional 3 hours for your flight check-in, US customs, and complimentary security searches (plus the random VIP secondary option). what day are you debarking? Some days have added congestion due to festival/events.

Rare martincath Posted June 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 3, 2017 I think you got lucky getting a relevant answer - this section of the boards is for questions about how to use the boards (posting, replying etc) rather than help with cruising. If you click the little warning triangle on your first post - 'report' - and in the message ask for the post to be moved to West Coast departures, the Moderators can send it to where you'll get more eyes on it. Having said that, it seems like the most relevant info has already been supplied. The only additional suggestion I'd make is to cancel your transfer - Vancouver has excellent public transit including a light rail line that runs to the airport for dirt cheap, and if you don't want to bother learning the ins and outs of our transit system taxis will be readily found when you return to collect your bags at the pier (the fancy hotel upstairs, Pan Pacific, usually has a cab or three hanging around). The cost of a typical cruise transfer per person is MORE than a cab! You could even treat yourselves to a limo for the same price as two transfers... xlxo Posted June 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2017 Thank you. We're disembarking Sunday July 2; we already have transfer to airport booked for 5 pm. CDS sounds like a good option.July 2nd? This year? There is a major parade planned 5 to 6:30pm. It will be busy just West of the cruise terminal. http://www.vancourier.com/news/vancouver-s-canada-150-parade-set-for-july-2-1.20264919 http://www.straight.com/blogra/916166/canada-150-parade-takes-over-downtown-vancouver-july-2 You might want to double check with your airport transfer on their parade congestion contingency plan. 5pm transfer? Sounds like you have a 9pm flight... If you didn't have a transfer arranged, I would have CDS send the luggage to airport ($40) and then catch the subway to the airport at 5:15pm to avoid the road congestion above after sightseeing. Once the parade starts, that 5pm airport transfer can feel like going through a war zone of congestion. If you are returning downtown from Capilano/Grouse.... I recommend you double check the attraction shuttle plans closer to your debarkation date. I expect congestion from 1pm onwards getting back into the downtown.
