Can I take my rental car on the ferry?

We're planning to rent a car from Avis at the Papeete airport, drive around the island, and then take the ferry to Moorea with it. We'll stay on Moorea for about 6 days and use the car there. Then we'll drive back to Papeete (using the ferry) and drop off the car at the airport before our flight.

Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can do that but make sure that you let Avis know that up front. We reseved an air conditioned car with them, but they had let it go.

What objections did they have to you taking the car on the ferry? Could it be because they require Loss&damage waiver on Moorea?
Do you feel the air conditioning is a must on Moorea (we're going in August)?
