CruiserPK Posted January 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Is it possible to get to a beach from the cruise ship landing area? We aren't wild about the excursions offered that but would love to explore a little on our own.
dns65 Posted January 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Raiatea doesn't really have any beaches. You'd have to head out to one of the motus for a beach in this port. IMO, this was the least interesting of the islands we visited on our FP cruise. It was the only one we didn't have to tender in, we docked at a pier right in town. But as we docked on a Sunday, there was nothing open in town. It was kind of a bust Do some internet research of your options of what you can do on your own on this island, it may be a bit more limited than your other ports of call. LocoLoco1 Posted January 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Agreed, Raiatea isn't a 'Beach Island' like others. Once you're docked, it's sister islet, Taha'a, is where small boats take the serious Snorkelers or SCUBA groups. Taking a local Taxi ride provided stunning scenic views, She included stops at ancient Marae sites and overlooks for Photo-Ops; equal to our SCUBA and snorkel days on other islands. I hailed the Taxi on-the-spot 200/ft from the village Pier.
