C5050 Underwater Pictures

10X

Recommended Posts

During a trip to Hawaii in Jan/Feb this year, I used my Olympus C5050 extensively for the first time. I posted some of the pictures to a web site, in case someone would like to see them. All of the underwater pictures were taken with the C5050 and most of the others as well. I used only the internal flash and the Program mode of the camera because I'm not yet that well versed with the manual mode and I do not yet own an external flash.

Denny,

Nice shots for no external flash. Who did you dive with in Maui?? We were there in September and went out with Ed Robinson's out of Kehei. If you are getting into digital underwater there is a site you may have run across but in case you haven't check out

There is a good forum and lots of info on underwater digital with a huge C5050 following.
Great place to shorten your learning curve.

Enjoy

sddiver,
I went with Aaron's Dive Shop on Ohau and Maui Dive Shop on Maui. I would have liked to go with Ed Robinson but had to change my mind. My wife is snorkeler and wanted to go too, and Ed either wanted as much for her as he did for a diver or wouldn't take snorkelers. I don't recall which. At any rate, I had to change my mind so she could go too. Maui Dive Shop only wanted about half as much for her as they did for a diver. Maui Dive Shop wasn't bad though, and I wouldn't hesitate to go with them again. But I know Ed is deep into photography and it would have been nice to glean a little info from him.

I'm busy learning how to handle the C5050 in manual mode right now. Once I can do that with relative ease, and can get some better shots with the internal flash, I'll add an external flash to take the photography one step further. I'm trying to make it an uncomplicated learning process. However, I have priced everything I need for an external setup, including a WAL, so it's tempting to buy one right now.

I've been monitoring Digital Diver for a while now, but also another site. You might want to take a look at this one since they have a very active UW photography group.

Nita,

Thanks for the links to your pics. I especially loved the shot of the Green Moray on your Cozumel trip. I've been certified in scuba for less than a year and Hawaii was my first saltwater dive experience, so I'm anxious to dive the Caribbean as well. After looking at your shots, you're making me drool.
