Photos? Thanks. You think you need a fix? We're leaving in only a few more days and are positively "jonesing" :) Check out the rssc.com site - they very recently posted a new L'Etoile menu. On the other hand, it looks like they also meant to post a new La Veranda menu and ended up posting the Mariner's La Veranda instead.
Cruisedreamer1 Posted June 27, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 27, 2009 Once you have recovered from your cruise, please report back to us as to how your cruise was. Say hi to Laksman who makes the best espresso drinks on the ship.
Bearnaise Posted June 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2009 Where do I find this Laksman, and what's his specialty drink?
Cruisedreamer1 Posted June 28, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted June 28, 2009 Laksman will be on the pool deck and at the Casino bar as well as the main dining room. He is from Sri Laki(sp). He makes great cappacinos and lattes(he worked at a Starbucks in Dubae). He and the crew took great care of my beautiful adult daughter Wendy. Now me, I'm much higher maintenance, and I can assure you Laksman won't get very far with his flirting ;) But I do promise to sample his coffee many times over and I'll relay your appreciative comments on top of my own :)
B6driver Posted June 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2009 We are sailing at the end of November and wondered if anyone could give us a "fix" to keep us going? how was the ship and crew, etc.? Photos? Thanks. My wife and I sailed on PG a few weeks ago. We had an absolutely wonderful time and were very satisfied with the experience. As someone who had sailed with Regent before, I had very high expectations. In my honest and humble opinion, here's the good and the bad... -Ship is great! She is well maintained, clean and the decor, unpretentious. -Cabins are spacious with plenty of storage space. -Comfortable bed and pillows, though not the most comfortable on the high seas (IMO,Oceania takes the prize in this category). -Food was excellent, plenty to choose from at all meals for even the most discriminating palates. -The itinerary is perfect for those who want a "taste" of French Polynesia. Now, here are some of my personal observations of areas that could use improvement... -I was not "WOWed" by the level of service (Our housekeeper was the exception). -I did not find the staff of the PG to be the type to go above and beyond for passengers on board. -In the dining areas, I rarely noticed a crewmember smiling or genuinely happy to serve. The two recurring themes for me were plates not being cleared promptly and drink orders were only taken when I asked for one. I rarely heard "what can I get you to drink?" muttered from a member of the waitstaff. -Food on the buffet was not hot (I overheard a number of passengers complaining about this). -I would rarely be acknowledged by a crewmember when I walked past them in a hallway...Even the Captain and Cruise Director would walk by without engaging passengers! I never use an elevator when on board and walk up and down the stairs many times per day. When a crewmember vacuuming saw me coming up the stairs, he did not switch off the vacuum or ensure the cord was out of the way, he just went about his business as if I wasn't even there. -The satellite television system is poor with the only exposure to the US media being Fox News Channel (I cringe at the sound of Bill O'Reilly's voice). Please accept my comments with a grain of salt. I have worked in the travel business for a long time and cannot get past the nonchalant service level on board PG. While the service was acceptable and we had a fine time, I just felt the lack of effort on the part of the crew did not justify the premium fare. Maybe they just had an "off" week or perhaps it is a sign of weak leadership on board. Plain and simple, the PG crew did not provide the same level of service I have experienced on another Regent ship or other lines.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted June 28, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 28, 2009 Interesting. Fox TV, yes I agree, a pox on their houses! But they certainly must have had a bad week, or some behind the scenes problems. I'm hoping that others who are going soon will come back and give Cruiserdreamer the fix she needs--she's a veteran of the PG, as am I, and certainly would not expect that kind of lackadaisical service. I have fond memories of the service on my last trip in December.

There were a few "good apples" in the bunch, but overall, it seemed like the crew needed more of a vacation than we did!
AtMaui Posted July 1, 2009 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Alan Fox, the president of *****.com, sent out a newsletter on 6/16 saying he was going on the PG. He hasn't yet reported on the trip but you might want to check the site periodically to see what he has to say about the ship.
Dreps Posted July 1, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Actually, Fox has reported on his pre-cruise experiences at the Intercontinental Hotels on Tahiti and on Bora Bora, along with terrific photos, but he not yet reported about the ship. Keep a look out for his ship report.
