Long Beach Airport & San Pedro Terminal

Considering flying into LB airport instead of LAX for my Vision of the Seas cruise in March. This ship leaves from the terminal in San Pedro. Does anybody think this is a wise choice? If I do fly into Long Beach which hotel(s) should I choose for the night before the cruise? Previously I have stayed in San Pedro after flying into LAX. Did not care for either of those picks! Are there better offerings in Long Beach as far a hotels? If I do find a decent LB hotel how much is transportation between LB and San Pedro?

LGB is a little closer then LAX to the San Pedro port. If it is less expensive then I would recommend it. There are nicer hotels in Long Beach but they will be at least a $20 cab ride to the San Pedro port.
