Port of Taormina, Sicily

We plan to see Taormina, Sicily on our own. Does anyone know how to get from the port area to the town?

They have running shuttles to the elevators that take you up to the top of the village. It runs about every 30 minutes.

Resist the urge to go up to the hill town at the very top - we thought it looked adorable and took a cab - and it was bleak and depressing and cost us over $80 euros to get there and back
