Norwegian Sea: ??

Just back:

this ship has few accessable cabins; it is older: had a great time but:

distances are great to areas of interest: one needs a scooter or powered chair if like me weak upper arms......

casino was impossible in WC (manual)....

Crew was great! Many elevators to small for wheelchair, so I used the cane and got slammed into walls by the ships movement, exhausted but had fun.

had to assert myself to get on elevators the first day: and stated look I was here first! a few trips ago! got better on Day Two.

This ship is being "retired", good, love her but access is well not evident.

Be advised the crew that help you up and down and such have no, repeat no training; my wife a Physical Therapist ahd to do a few Mini-clinics (they were grateful) I got my body bumped as they had no idea about how to help a wheelcahir up a "bump" and just speeded up! Going down that 400 yard ramp getting off the ship was terror! :D :cool:

Only got burned twice by refills for coffee and such...overall The olde Norwegian Sea has a great crew and after a day or two I knew who to ask for help. I did get "special" help due to being in "The Owners Suite".

I was almost not allowed to board with the VIP's as I was in a wheelchair.
I did see a few elderly get the same uneducated wheelchair help I recieved
at embarkation but they took all those with wheelcahirs and canes first!
Actually passed through security without a look: a mistake.

Truly a great crew; older ship means well they are selling Her off: the crew was special, made it great! lots of help in the buffets and such and "subtle" versus making me feel uncomfortable. Casino staff was such as I am glad I hit a couple nice "jackpots"; the man who manages it should be tossed overboard. Besides the kids (they are not allowed in a casino on most ships, some jerk swiped my cane). Cozumel was easy: but hard to find a cab to stash the manual wheelchair; Roatan: I have friends so no issues with this port. Had my drink refils poured in my cup with lid as to avoid getting scalded and wet. Used the same wait staff and bartenders......all were great!

This was my last cruise in a manual wheelchair. Going to stay with the newer ships. Repeat: had a great, great time!

All, wheelchair passengers were "elderly". Many elderly on board with children: they needed repite care. Another issue.

Can not wait to cruise again!

Thanks, Joe, it was good to read your review, but too bad about the lack of accessibility. I guess that we are lucky that so many of the newer ships have better access, but unlucky that we are losing all of the older, more intimate ships. Bless your wife for her mini classes, I'm sure that will help a lot of future passengers.
I guess I'll cross the NCL Sea off of my "to sail" list! :) It's terrible that someone took your cane! Did they have any onboard that you could use? You'd think someone would have spotted yours............
