JLSchutt Posted December 31, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2004 We have signed up for several tours with PortCompass during our upcoming cruise on the Royal Princess and are trying to obtain some guidelines for tipping the tour guides. PortCompass itself has declined to offer such guidelines, stating that tipping is a personal matter and not mandated. We would like to know an approximate percentage of the tour cost for a typical tip and whether it should be given in US or local currency. Any advice will be appreciated. --Jim--
joramrose Posted January 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2005 I usually figure about 10 percent of the tour cost if it is a group, a little more if it is limited to two, four or six. I usually divide that to about 4 percent for the driver, 6 percent for the guide. If the tour is a baddie, the guide no good or not understandable, the driver scary (and yes, I have had a few of these, thank goodness not many!) I cut the tip in half. Hope this helps. love joan
