Braemar questions

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have found a lovely Caribbean intinary on this ship. I no this ship isnt old but what is the ships interior like and would you recomend this ship to familys. Also is the ship noticable small compared to Ovs ships?

Thanks James

Hi James,

Just done a cruise on the Braemar to the North Cape. The ship is quite old but has been refurbished over the years and last year she was stretched and the new middle section is very nice. However if you get a cabin in the other part of the ship the cabins and in particular the bathrooms are quite tired and in need of refurbishment. The public areas i.e.bars,restaurants are very nice but the Neptune theatre is small and badly designed. The new tonnage of the ship is 24373tonnes so she is quite small compared to some of the new super liners so there will not be all the facilities for younger guests that you would find on the bigger ships.Overall I would recommend the Braemaer as she has a fantastic crew who really go out of their way to ensure you have a great cruise and the other important

thing is that bar prices are reasonable and dont have the dreaded 15% service charge.

Hope this helps:)

Had a basic cabin in the 'cut and shut' centre section of the ship and though compact, it was very nice. Bathroom the size of an average broom cupboard but you get used to it! I did hear of some of the older cabins being a trifle shabby though (but all clean nonetheless).

All the general areas seem to have had a refurb so looked smart. The main show lounge is very badly designed, no raised stage, fixed 'bench' style seating with more loose chairs crammed in all over the place - not impressed. Get there early!

The other show lounge (sorry can't recall names) was marginally better but I was always absolutely freezing in there. Second sitting diners quite often couldn't get a seat, the early diners had seen the first show in the main lounge then moved on to this one before we'd come out from dinner.

On board end March 09 - only 2 crew kids on board, not school hols. We liked the fact that the ship didn't have dozens of levels (I've got no sense of direction). Crew fantastic, friendly and polite. Entertainment crew did a great job and I imagine if you did have kids on board they'd keep them busy.

However, FO does have a bit of a reputation for catering for the older age range. Certainly true on our cruise, 50+ EASILY. Might be different at other times of the year, can't comment on that. (Certainly even worse at Christmas, my friend said 70+ on her cruise).

On the whole we really enjoyed it and would definitely go again, but what we are looking for is different to you.
