We're considering the Volendam or Zuiderdam near the end of May ... one starting in Anchorage with the land portion, with the sea portion starting at Skagway and ending in Vancouver. Has anyone done one of these recently? Can anyone recommend an Anchorage hotel for the night before departure? How are the hotels, lodges, etc along the land route?

 

Does it make sense to reserve now, or are the prices likely to drop by the end of the year, as they did last year?

 

Any suggestions for how best to pack for the two parts of this trip? Any ideas will certainly be appreciated.

 

I'm sure I'll think of more questions as time goes by, but this seems like plenty for now.
