Cab to San Pedro for pty of 3?

We will be flying in Friday night before our 7 day cruise on the Star. I decided to say near LAX because we may be arriving late and I could get a better hotel rate. I thought with 3 of us, it would just be better to take a cab both to and from the port as it appears that many of the shuttles that I have read about either make stops or can circle around looking for additional psgrs plus I don't think it would save us any money by taking a shuttle....do you all agree?
