Free St Thomas afternoon: suggestions? (DH not a shopper!)

Hi Cruisers!

We'll be on the Eurodam, in St Thomas with three other ships on March 3. We have already booked a catamaran/snorkel trip that lasts from 8:30 to around 12:30, and we leave St T at 5 pm.

 

DH is pretty averse to shopping, and we will already have sailed and snorkeled. I'm looking for suggestions about what to do for the rest of our time on the island -- just sitting on the ship seems like a wasted opportunity! I thought maybe a nice beach afternoon? Not sure where we dock, but from reading the boards both Secret Harbor and Emerald Beach sound good. We'd like to rent chairs, find a bit of shade or an umbrella, and relax with a book and a beer. What do you think? Would it be doable via taxi in the time we'll have (about 3 hours?) Any other suggestions to escape the crowds a bit in a limited amount of time? ;)

 

I assume ships tie to dock in St T and we won't be tendering? (It's a while since we've been there!) We are really looking forward to the trip.

Secret Harbor is BEAUTIFUL!!! I have not been to Emerald but Secret Harbor was very low key and relaxed!!

The hills in the Virgin Islands are beautiful, especially the view from the tops.

 

We've not had time for this, but have heard suggestions of taking the tram up the hill by the Havensight Pier to a bar called Paradise Point or something like that. Supposed to be a fun place with a breathtaking view for lunch, a drink and a view.

 

You could also consider a short taxi tour to see some of the hilltop sights.

 

Also, when we've finished early in the past we'd take the opportunity to have a nice fresh fish lunch at a local restaurant, since they don't have fresh fish on the ship.

Still not sure how far it is from dock to beaches -- how much time would travel take, and if there would be enough beach time to be worth it...
