wldflr Posted January 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2005 14 days and counting til we leave on Costa Med. FYI Iowaguy....there will be a very large population from Cleveland on this cruise via www.supercruise.net!!! About 1,000+ Ohioians...hee-hee. We picked up our tickets at a sponsored cruise bon voyage party last Friday night and the ballroom at the local irish-american hall was packed! There was a long table set up with boxes and boxes full of everyone's tickets. Apparently a lot of families and friends go on this "superbowl" cruise year after year. Be sure to catch The New Barleycorn's music show at some point on the cruise - (originally from Ireland - now living in Cleveland). John & Alec will be on this cruise and they put on a fabulous traditional Irish show. You'll know all the Cleveland "regulars" in the cruise crowd cause we'll be singing along with them! Iowaguy Posted January 23, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted January 23, 2005 wldflr & fire cruiser I am one of the supercruisers and this is our 4th trip. Did you go last year? I have met some great friends on these trips most of them from Westlake. I just recieved our t-shirts and docs Friday. We actually thought about flying out for the weekend for the banquet. We are from Des Moines, kind of a lonf way to go for 1 night. I won $500.00 at one of the cocktail parties last year with the poker chip game. It's always a great time although I always feel like I need a week of detox after the trip. hahah. We are in cabin 5264, stop by and say hi. If you look at the supercruise website all of the 2004 photo's are from oour group. Kirk
wldflr Posted January 24, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Iowaguy, This will by our first supercruise, but my 8th cruise overall. Funny you should say that you've made friends from Westlake, cause that's where we live - no kidding. If I get a chance I'll look you up - we're somewhere on deck 8, I can't remember the number right now and I'm at work. 13 days and counting... Iowaguy Posted January 24, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Wldflr, I will be hanging out with Bob and Christy, Tim & Twila, John & Sharon all of them from Westlake. I won't give last names on the internet but you may know them by thier first names. If so I'm sure we will meet, our group will be surrounded at all time by buckets of beer. Of course so are most every group. hahah - You will have the time of your life. This is a little differnet than a regular cruise, they kind of break the rules for this group and will parties seem to be the theme throughout the week. wldflr Posted January 24, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Iowaguy, You'll have to forgive me if I don't know everyone from Westlake yet...the population is about 33,000 residents. But most will have seen my work...I publish the annual Westlake Magazine. Actually, for a bit of a joke, I'll be decorating our cabin door with "mock" covers of some of our local city magazines with some funny headlines. Sorta making fun of winter in Ohio, that kinda stuff... At the party Friday night, my hubby, Jim was starting to feel like we were going to be one of the youngest people on the ship (we're 41!) but as the room filled up more young cruisers showed up. Sounds like we'll have a good time - you're quite the supercruiser veteran - I sure would like to win $500!
Iowaguy Posted January 24, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Don't worry we are middle 40's but act like more 20 year old's on the cruise and most people seem to follow suit. You will have an awwsome time. I really didn't think you would know them but it's posssible you might because I know they were bringing some newbies with them this year. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Be sure and go to the free cocktail parties.
firecruiser Posted January 24, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2005 We are in the 5200 block (front of the ship) also, traveling with a couple of first time supercruisers. This is our 4th super and 12th overall. Also in our early 40's. This is our first venture on Costa. Wldflr - would like to chat about the Westlake magazine one day. I am taking a small notebook in order to attempt to write a very detailed review of the trip. I was very disappointed at the reviews I have found for Costa so far. Our favorite cruise line is Princess and before we leave we know pretty much everything including the daily schedule of events. 13 days...
Iowaguy Posted January 24, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted January 24, 2005 This will be our 3rd trip on Costa and we sure like it better than Carnival. But we could like a barge as long as everyone was having a good time. Costa has always been a very nice experience. I'm sure not the level you would expect from Princess though. We are aft so it's a long walk between our cabins.
wldflr Posted January 24, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Fire Cruiser, If you are from Medina, you probably just got my 2005 Medina Magazine in the mail in the last few weeks. I am the Production Coordinator - that's the person who puts it all together and makes it pretty - and I will be doing a presscheck at the printer Tues. in southern Ohio for North Olmsted and Solon Magazines so excuse me for not replying until Weds. I'm glad to see we're all 40-somethings but young at heart!!!
firecruiser Posted January 25, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 25, 2005 Wldflr - I am from Medina but work in Westlake, great new Medina Magazine. Everyone was wondering who to root for in the Super Bowl. I said that was a really easy decision. Just root for me to win the 30k! Looking forward to meeting everyone. Iowaguy Posted January 25, 2005 Author #13 Share Posted January 25, 2005 Sorry to burst your bubble firecruiser but the 30 grand is all mine. I will need it for my bar bill. hahaha!! I was actually 1 touchdown in the last few minutes of the game from winning it a couple years ago. I'm ready to get out of the cold it's been real nasty here in Des Moines but it supposed to be 45 today. It was a good winter until January, I actually played golf NewYears Eve day. That's a rarity in Iowa. I wish we were leaving this weekend.
wldflr Posted January 26, 2005 #14 Share Posted January 26, 2005 I made it my birthday wish to win $$ on the cruise, so I may have both you guys beat, hee-hee. wldflr Posted January 26, 2005 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2005 Iowaguy, since you've gone on Costa cruises before, how serious is the "toga" night? Be honest now...have you done it and are the ones who do it the minority or the majority?
Iowaguy Posted January 27, 2005 Author #17 Share Posted January 27, 2005 Toga party is the best night of the cruise and most people do it. Some wear something underneath and some don't. We always do the toga thing and alot of people that have been on Costa have custom made togas they bring with them although we don't do that we do bring some accessories to wear with the sheets. It's a blast and always on the last night. As you know you put your luggage outside your door the night before the end the cruise and keep and overnight bag for morning clothes, well, on one cruise the next morning as we were on our way back to our room after breakfast a young drunk couple still still dressed in thier togas asked me if I knew how to find thier luggage because the togas were all they had to wear off the ship. Funny!

wldflr Posted January 29, 2005 #20 Share Posted January 29, 2005 Your Westlake friends weren't at Brendan O'Neill's Irish pub by chance? They were having "casino night" and giving away a trip to Ireland Friday night...we'll be there Sat. night with some friends to see The New Barleycorn Irish band(who will be on the supercruise with us!) MotherHubbard7272 Posted February 2, 2005 #23 Share Posted February 2, 2005 I just got back from the Costa Mediterranea a few days ago. It was my first cruise ever--but it will not be my last! I loved it and had an amazing time! Enjoy yourselves, and think of this poor Canadian shivering in the cold at least once!
Iowaguy Posted February 2, 2005 Author #24 Share Posted February 2, 2005 We will pack Friday afternoon. We have done it enough now we know what to take and what to leave at home but as usual we we take more than we need. I figured we will only be at the dining room where we need to dress nice five times and one of those is Toga night. The first night you can dress as you want and if your in the Superbowl group you will be eating hot dogs at the game, Monday will be formal, Tues. in San Juan, Wed. & Thurs need to dress, Fri. Fromal night and Sat. Toga night. So you really don't need much for clothes since most of the time your in swimwear. And at port swim wear or shorts and a tee shirt is all thats needed. As for remembering the poor suckers back north in the cold. It might run through my mind for a brief moment sometime between the 8 am mimosa and the first Corona. wldflr Posted February 2, 2005 #25 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Thanks for the info. I forgot about it being casual the first night...and that it will be Superbowl party too! I've got our togas made and we're ready to go now!!!
