We didn't buy the insurance within the 2 weeks of booking. Want to get it now but wonder about pre-existing conditions. Some policies say 60 days others say 90 days. Does that mean if you have had a pre-existing condition for 5 yrs. and it re-occurs before or during the cruise we will be covered? Or are their restrictions? We are booked for October 1st on an expensive European cruise.

No, just the opposite. If you have been treated for this condition that you've had for five years in the 60 to 180 day period (varies by policy) prior to the coverage's effective date and this condition causes a loss then the claim will be denied.

 

For most policies the effective date for the trip cancellation benefit is the day after you buy the policy. For post-departure benefits such as medical the effective date is usually the date you depart on your trip.

Yes, there are restrictions, exclusions, exceptions to the exclusions, and exceptions to the exceptions. All of these will vary by the policy you're considering and can even vary by your state of residence.

 

You need to call the insurer of the plan(s) you're considering and go over your exact situation regarding this medical condition and the treatment you've been receiving to find out exactly what would happen if you have to cancel or interrupt the cruise or if you need to have medical treatment during the cruise.
